  • @JATV62, It's from Hee Haw

  • What show was this from?

  • Ive been listening Merle and this song for over 40 years. Still sends a shiver down my back. None like him!!!!

  • Seems like todays "country" is sooo hollow and without any real feeling in the lyrics and its artists. I sooo wish there would be a TRUE country music revival.

  • Turnipman, They're all making songs in a studio with all special effects. Very few of them today can actually sing. I'll always be a Merle, Buck, Jones, Hank, And all the good old boys. Loved Waylon.

  • one person needs to be run over by a semi truck.

  • Thanks for posting this very emotional classic . Along this life most of us get hurt in the game of love .

  • I just heard about Merle. I hope he will be o.k.

  • As Jones said "Who's going to take their place"..

  • @fogologo100 Its actually "Who's gonna fill their shoes". :)

  • @AshleighNicole0092 Who will?

  • Mighty fine....back in the day!!!

  • " The Hag!.....Mighty Fine! "

  • To me he sounds like he is just talking, but singing so lovely

  • Now this is country! All time favorite>>>

  • My mother in law and I would listen to Hag and swear if he wrote about toliet paper we would listen. Then we would laugh our butts off. RIP Ginny. I am still listening

  • look up Will Banister and see if you still feel that way. :-)

  • Country Music Personified...None better!

  • This is why they call him "Mighty Meryl"

  • yep

  • country music like this mightiswell r.i.p, cuz we will never see anymore of this again :( but the oldies wont die!

  • Country music rest in peace' We will surly miss you!

  • Dang, we sure were young back then!

  • a lot of the comments here are from people living in the past. There are still plenty of good young country singers, it all about writing good songs.

  • @cyrilmcmorrow yes it is all about writing good songs BUT there is no singer today that can deliver a song like this guy did!!!!

  • @togoodlegs Will Banister sure can, look him up

  • Its so true and sad there will not be country music like this at a mass level. Its still out there, but its difficult to find. It requires going to endless local small venue shows.

  • For simplistic beauty, this song, and "Somewhere Between", were Merle's finest accomlishments. The stunningly beautiful harmony work of Bonnie Campbell, her name she was born with, will never be equalled, RIP Bonnie, and God Bless you Mr. Haggard, pay close attention you slags in Trashville, TN, this is REAL Country Music, not the vomit you clowns are trying to pass of as such these days.

  • whats happerning with country these days , country will allways be country but country aint country anymore

  • @12fangs There's still some damned good country music being made today, but you won't hear it on the radio anymore.

  • Yes, "Nana" one of my favorite song with Merle H.

  • now thats what i call music.xxx

  • @expresionest Oh yes there will be. i may be a youngin but Im bringing it back. I just started writing. wish me a broken leg that I pull it off hehehe

  • One of the best songs ever recorded.

  • His music was the best beer drinking music ever put out

  • @407farmer best non beer drinking music too

  • His music was the beer drinking music ever put out

  • Every voice that has tried to come on the country scene in the last forty years, has been judged by this voice. " Is he as good as Merle Haggard ?" By far the best male country voice to ever hit Planet Earth, followed real close by Marty Robbins.

  • If you're a man, how could you not know this song????

  • MERLE HAGGARD IS THE MAN..."THE GREATEST"~~

  • I am a vocalist and he is one of my biggest insperations. He also taught Jewl how to play guitar.

  • all you beat boxing ,raptard fuck nuggets LISTEN .. you hear this ? .. this is ( MUSIC ) .. and that guy up there sitting ^^ ...... he is ( SINGING ) .... Amazing !!! isn't it .......

  • Yeah, well I never stopped loving you Merle.

  • The greatest country singer ever !

  • Garth WHO!!! The Lyrics are unmatchable!!!!!!

  • Garth WHO

  • This is one reason to thank Ronald Reagan. No doubt about it.

  • @der2035 the hag is a liberal, don't know if you were aware of it.

  • @aknowneemus sadly this is very true but oh well were here for beautiful music

  • @aknowneemus fuck politics just listen to the damn song

  • one of the best songs ever written...and merle haggard made it what it is! love it!

  • I love this song and it brings back so many many good memories of happier times. It does not get any better than Merle Haggard, Charlie Rich, Dolly, Tammy. Country is just straight from the heart...

  • I grew up listening to merle haggard on my dads record player. My momma would play john denver and the eagles on her casset player but when dinner was being made the kitchen was filled with haggards voice and all the kids knew it was time for dad to come home. These songs will always have a place in my heart.

  • Hadn't thought of this song in years then my Dad sang it in the hospital shortly before he passed away. Now it will be a part of me for as long as I live. I love and miss you Dad.

    Jim

  • @jimbo226 That is awesome man, gave me chills just reading that.

  • @10pmStalker

Thanks Stalker. My Dad passed away early Easter morning this year with family at his side. We were real close and I sure do miss him. I appreciate your comment.

    Truly, Jimbo

  • This is a cold song.

  • class he is the man

  • Thats is one bad boy. Grew up listening to him and we cant get enough of him.... Man does his songs bring back memories from even my childhood throughout the rest of my past 45 years.... Love ya merle, thanks for all your music...

  • You're right @alan! it can't get any better tha this!

  • Pure country gold. Thank you Merle

  • What a great video! Thank you so much. Country musics best. Wasn t too hard to look at either.

  • I have to wonder, is there any country "artist" that has the ability to write a song of this caliber? If so, they must be in hiding .

  • @TheMILVET

Well partner, check out Jamey Johnson and Ryan Bingham. They are both excellent singer/songwriters, but I don't know if I can say that either one of them is as good as Merle was. I don't know if there will ever be another that can write as good as Merle.

  • He is a god among men. I still love the man's singing. He doesn't even sing anymore.

  • In his early days, Merle Haggard was the greatest songwriter in the world of country music. With this song, Mama Tried, The Lonesome Fugitive, I Threw Away the Rose, Branded Man, and so many others. True greatness.

  • My favorite country singer of all time & I love (& have lived this song), thx 4 posting..

    RL

  • great song

  • When it comes to "real" country music, it just doesn't get any better than this!

  • To real lovers..

  • a young Merle Haggard looks like Billy Bob Thorntons daddy! lol dont believe it... look again!

  • I started a list of all the country singers better than Merle Haggard..... . still have a blank page.

  • @gino066 waylon is about the only one i can think of

  • Comment removed

  • @ianwalkerdownland oh come on man waylon had more number one hits and a way bigger fanbase and basically paved the way for ppl like merle.look it up and see who had the first triple platinum record in nashville!!!!!!!!!!

  • @waylonlover859 i may be wrong but was waylon even playing country professionally when merle was having hits in the 60s? he played bass with buddy holly up until 60ish and never had any country fame until at least the 70s so im not sure how he could have paved the way for Merle. if anything it was the other way around

  • @silowhore never had any country fame til the seventies he had the first triple platinum album in nashville come get your facts straight before you try to state them

  • @waylonlover859 you might go to legacy recordings and look up Waylon my friend, i never said he wasn't playing, he was a professional musician from 50s onward but he never had any real country success until the 70s, it's clearly stated in the first few lines of his bio

  • @waylonlover859 wow, way to sound like an idiot. good job.

  • @gino066 haha good one!

  • @gino066 jonny cash

  • @gino066 It will always remain blank

  • @starchief59 I agree with you on that 1

  • @gino066 how about Johnny Cash

  • @gino066 you can add george jones to the blank page.

  • Love Merle! His voice is soooo smooth! Big fan here.

  • At 1:19 the record skips and no one notices.
