I think that waiting could still be as important whether you are religious or not. One reason is the fact that most relationships do not work out and you could really ruin something by going that far too early. Teen pregnancy is a reason you could wait until you are sure you are having sex with a person that cares about you enough to be with you through being pregnant as a teen. Don't you think?
This is silly because sex is marriage..they would not have been sinning if they would have had sex before the ceremony and also legal marriage may be an abomination because you swear..which btw is a sin. At that point, Ashley and I had spoken many times about sexual purity and how we are waiting and how it IS hard to wait, etc. All of the people in the room was our friends and family and knew "our story", etc... It seems like no one I know intends to wait until marriage. But I know that it was God behind me giving up pornography and masturbation, and if not having sex before marriage is something else I can do to follow God and to be more faithful to my future partner then maybe it's worth doing.

I find it highly respectable if someone chooses abstinence, just as I respect those who are not and are smart about it. for those who take no precautions but go at it I think they are morons. What I don’t like is the implications when you use the word purity. Saying that its pure to abstain, implies that to not do so is impure.

But using words like Pure which implies other are impure is not a positive approach as it sets negative divisions in. Combine that with meaningful relationships with people and then talk about the “issues” and how people need change. Humanity as it is will die. As a species we are diverse in practices and beliefs. Its more effective to build on what we have in common and then talk about differences, than try to get people to conform.

In Russia adults blame modern youth for free sexual behavior, because they grew up in Soviet times, when sex was a taboo. So there is a huge difference between values of generations in Russia.
But I still can't understand the reason of sexual conservatism in America. Sex was not a taboo in your country 20-30 years ago, so I'm sure that modern parents already had sex when they were teenagers. Why do they blame their teenage children for it today? Don't they remember their own youth? :)

Russian sexual revolution happened only in the 90's - almost 30 years later than in America. Before the 90's we had communism and all sexual themes were forbidden. It was a total taboo in former USSR. After collapse of communist system in the early 90's sexual liberalisation started.
So nowadays we have a strong conflict of generations. Younger Russian people are sexually liberal, but those who grew up in Soviet times are very conservative.
I agree with waiting for marriage. But...is it just me or does it seem like she doesn't really like her husband...during the interview. she seems so bored when he's talking like she doesnt seem happy at all...

I think considering the divorce rate, stds, promiscuity amongst people and teen pregnancy rate and out of wedlock birthrate i think waiting until after marriage is a good idea and i am not even religious. Especially for women because it can really mess up a guy knowing you had another man and how you might still love another.

Condoms do not by any means keep a relationship lasting & I hate to burst your bubble but semen will NEVER keep a relationship going. You've completely missed the point of sex as it seems to be, in those words, strictly a physical thing. When you take out the emotional part of sex (or a married relationship), you lose the best part. Sex can be SO much more! Trust me :-)

If you wanna wait til marriage for sex, im all for it. But you dont need to be religious to practice abstinence. You can be a totally normal secular person with no religious beliefs and still have strong moral convictions and choose to wait for marriage.
@yumlemonjuice I agree, you can choose to wait for marriage for many reasons (a popular one is to not contract the multitudes of sexually transmitted diseases that are out there ;) But I will say, for me personally - I do not know if I could have had the power to refrain with my wife, if I did not have Christ's help....

@shane69999 hey there... I would submit that Sex can totally be a holy act. I would submit that sex can be a totally fun, bonding, relaxing and emotional event within marriage. No matter what it is (or what you let it be) - it is special and important. The wife should always be held with respect and if she does not want to do something in the bedroom then the husband should respect that. But I believe God designed sex to be fun for a reason... its not just for procreation..: )

I respect people who wait and all, but not when they judge people who don't and try to preach and force their beliefs on people, which is what most people who wait do. I'm 18 and I don't plan on waiting because it's just not for me. That doesn't mean I will give it to random people. It's true that over 90% of people don't wait anyway (I've seen it on several sources). But I'm not saying people who wait are not normal. I think they have a ton of willpower.

There are many reasons why I don't feel I should wait. For one, i don't want to be married for a while but I don't want to wait that long either. I also don't believe that you have to be married to have sex or that it's some "precious gift" that some people make it out to be. I believe in the "try it before you buy it" idea and I would like to explore different people and have some fun. That doesn't mean I want like 8 partners. I don't want to regret it and suffer with a husband who I am ...
incompatible with or one of us ends up cheating because we got curious. I know of people who regret it. Like I said I don't want to marry till I'm in my 30's, and don't want to be a virgin at that age, and I want kids in my 20's. I'm also not that Christian (believe in God but don't go to church), so that might be a factor also.

I just don't understand....Why is it that [people] want sexual relations and kids BEFORE marriage? Marriage and parenthood require a lot of effort and commitment, and parenthood may require more of a commitment than marriage itself. Why take the bigger responsibility first? And why set such an example for your children?
@ubettaluvme I just explained why I want sexual relations. As for kids, there is nothing wrong with it before marriage. It is very common nowadays. I want to be in a stable longterm relationship and be living with him before I have kids and I don't need a piece of paper with a few legal benifits to be able to take care of them. I want children younger because I want to be able to relate to my children and keep up with them. As I said there is nothing wrong w/ it so there's no bad example to set.
I agree with FuturActres...there is nothing inherently "immoral" about premarital sex at all...sex is human, sex is required for propogation of the human race...if a god only wanted us to wait until marriage, then why does he allow non married women to become pregnant ALL the time? Come on people, sex is an important biological process that has no ties to "god" or morality. It only becomes a moral issue when one person does not give consent.

There's alot of things to respond to in your post but I just want to reference one: God allows women to get pregnant (among many other things) because he gave us free will to choose what we want to do. Unfortunately, Adam & Eve choose sin - thus creating a pattern of "born-into" sinful behavior for ALL of mankind. God loved us SO much that he allowed us to choose him, instead of forced us! This Free Will brings many other consequences with it...

@thathug4u Hey there... Everything I've read "AVERAGES" out around 70%. You have to look at the entire survey, including who gave it, who took it and where it was given. This gauges the results alot - and unfortunately both sides are known for "stacking" the survey takers with the people that they know will give the result they want. Statistics are a funny game that unfortunately you can not always trust. I will also say, that # comes from our personal conversations with thousands of kids.

The study I was talking about surveyed married people, which is the most accurate data because it's a matter of what someone did, not what they intend to do. I've never seen figures lower than 90% for the proportion that have pre-marital sex. Maybe you can point me to some of the things you've read that say otherwise
I'm 16, and at this age, it's really is difficult to stick to your morals and beliefs because media, and so many people make it seem like it's impossible.
Lately i've been doing some research on this topic, and i found that there are still people out there that share the same thoughts as me, which is a huge relief.

I think that waiting could still be as important whether you are religious or not. One reason is the fact that most relationships do not work out and you could really ruin something by going that far too early. Teen pregnancy is a reason you could wait until you are sure you are having sex with a person that cares about you enough to be with you through being pregnant as a teen. Don't you think?

At that point, Ashley and I had spoken many times about sexual purity and how we are waiting and how it IS hard to wait, etc. All of the people in the room was our friends and family and knew "our story", etc... So when he said that, it was basically saying finally after all these years of us waiting - we get to practice what we preach. :-)

Combine that with meaningful relationships with people and then talk about the “issues” and how people need change. Humanity as it is will die. As a species we are diverse in practices and beliefs. Russian sexual revolution happened only in the 90's - almost 30 years later than in America. Before the 90's we had communism and all sexual themes were forbidden. It was a total taboo in former USSR. After collapse of communist system in the early 90's sexual liberalisation started.
So nowadays we have a strong conflict of generations. Younger Russian people are sexually liberal, but those who grew up in Soviet times are very conservative.

If you wanna wait til marriage for sex, im all for it. But you dont need to be religious to practice abstinence. You can be a totally normal secular person with no religious beliefs and still have strong moral convictions and choose to wait for marriage.

@shane69999 hey there... I would submit that Sex can totally be a holy act. I would submit that sex can be a totally fun, bonding, relaxing and emotional event within marriage. No matter what it is (or what you let it be) - it is special and important. The wife should always be held with respect and if she does not want to do something in the bedroom then the husband should respect that. But I believe God designed sex to be fun for a reason... its not just for procreation..: )

If a guy truly loves you and is truly trustworthy, than he should be able to wait to experience your body in an intimate way. I respect people who wait and all, but not when they judge people who don't and try to preach and force their beliefs on people, which is what most people who wait do. I'm 18 and I don't plan on waiting because it's just not for me. That doesn't mean I will give it to random people. It's true that over 90% of people don't wait anyway (I've seen it on several sources). But I'm not saying people who wait are not normal. I think they have a ton of willpower.

There are many reasons why I don't feel I should wait. For one, i don't want to be married for a while but I don't want to wait that long either. I also don't believe that you have to be married to have sex or that it's some "precious gift" that some people make it out to be. I believe in the "try it before you buy it" idea and I would like to explore different people and have some fun. That doesn't mean I want like 8 partners. I don't want to regret it and suffer with a husband who I am ...

incompatible with or one of us ends up cheating because we got curious. I know of people who regret it. Like I said I don't want to marry till I'm in my 30's, and don't want to be a virgin at that age, and I want kids in my 20's. I'm also not that Christian (believe in God but don't go to church), so that might be a factor also.
Where did you get your percentage because I know of very few people who wait and everything I've seen says at least 95%. Not saying you're wrong, just wondering.

Marriage and parenthood require a lot of effort and commitment, and parenthood may require more of a commitment than marriage itself. Why take the bigger responsibility first? And why set such an example for your children?

@ubettaluvme I just explained why I want sexual relations. As for kids, there is nothing wrong with it before marriage. It is very common nowadays. I want to be in a stable longterm relationship and be living with him before I have kids and I don't need a piece of paper with a few legal benifits to be able to take care of them. I want children younger because I want to be able to relate to my children and keep up with them. As I said there is nothing wrong w/ it so there's no bad example to set.

I agree with FuturActres...there is nothing inherently "immoral" about premarital sex at all...sex is human, sex is required for propogation of the human race...if a god only wanted us to wait until marriage, then why does he allow non married women to become pregnant ALL the time? Come on people, sex is an important biological process that has no ties to "god" or morality. It only becomes a moral issue when one person does not give consent.

There's alot of things to respond to in your post but I just want to reference one: God allows women to get pregnant (among many other things) because he gave us free will to choose what we want to do. Unfortunately, Adam & Eve choose sin - thus creating a pattern of "born-into" sinful behavior for ALL of mankind. God loved us SO much that he allowed us to choose him, instead of forced us! This Free Will brings many other consequences with it...

The reason I bring this up is because what would be the reason not to get those "legal documents" beforehand if your wanting to spend the rest of your life with him?

@RedSwitchVids Actually the percentage hovers around 95%, depending on the study. Search for usa today "premarital sex study" in Yahoo. I'm not sure where you got the 70% number from but it is very much higher than that.

@thathug4u Hey there... Everything I've read "AVERAGES" out around 70%. You have to look at the entire survey, including who gave it, who took it and where it was given. This gauges the results alot - and unfortunately both sides are known for "stacking" the survey takers with the people that they know will give the result they want. Statistics are a funny game that unfortunately you can not always trust. I will also say, that # comes from our personal conversations with thousands of kids.

@RedSwitchVids Talking with kids always artificially inflates the numbers. A lot of people would have said they wanted to wait when they were younger, but then go a different path. The study I was talking about surveyed married people, which is the most accurate data because it's a matter of what someone did, not what they intend to do. I've never seen figures lower than 90% for the proportion that have pre-marital sex. Maybe you can point me to some of the things you've read that say otherwise

I'm 16, and at this age, it's really is difficult to stick to your morals and beliefs because media, and so many people make it seem like it's impossible.
Lately i've been doing some research on this topic, and i found that there are still people out there that share the same thoughts as me, which is a huge relief.

I don't see anything wrong about waiting, but it's not for people like me. I don't think you should go give it out to a random man on the street. Having experience really does help. If your a virgin on your wedding night, your wife will probably bleed and feel pain, where if she isn't a virgin she can enjoy it and orgasm too (:

I (adam) was 17 and Ashley was 15 when we met. Although, I will say I thought she was my same age when we met as we had alot of mutual friends and she had skipped a grade. It wasn't for a few months or so that I found out and needless to say it was pretty funny and surprising.
We married at 21 and 19, so basically dated for 4 and half years before hand. Now were 26 and 25 (I'm a year and half older..: ) Thanks again - stay strong, I promise its worth it!
