  • I LOVE MY 07 SONATA! ppl talk shit all the time. Then they are crying holding on to their seatbelt lmao

  • the only thing i dont like about the 06-07 sonata, is that theres a pause when transitioning to the next gear. especially from 1st to 2nd. But i still like it :) Hyundai has some nice designs now. Including the equus

  • Imagine how much quicker this car would be with a 6spd manual? The engine is good, the transmission holds it back though. Like mentioned below, the shifts are just so sloppy in drive

  • Is your car have 4 cyl or V6??

  • It's a V6

  • You have those shifts down to a science, eh? Popping it up right at 5K? I was trying my '08 today in drive and a rolling/easy start and got to 60 in right at 7 seconds. Shifts are just so sloppy in D.

  • I don't drag race, and I prefer softer shifts, so I haven't re-trained my transmission for faster acceleration. I did get the tip from my Hyundai dealer tech, though, who got results doing this on his buddy's Sonata. For me, my car is fast enough the way it is. I've timed my 0-60 between 6.5 and 6.6 seconds with a stopwatch. Maybe you clipped this run on a collld March day (colder air=more power). Another thing: my GLS has the 16" rims- your LX has 17's- maybe better traction off the line.

  • Wow that's awesome.. I had no idea. Thanks for the pointers.

  • Shiftronic mode does make a big difference since it holds gears up to 6,200 RPM compared to the regular Auto mode shifting out around 5,900. Notice how there's about a 0.6 sec delay between the 1-2 shift. If you disconnect the cables from the battery & purge all power from the ECU/TCM, you will reset the transmission's adaptive values. Then, drive the car in manual mode for a couple days, run the gears up to 6,200 RPM a few times, and you will teach the transmission to shift firmer/quicker.

  • On a side note...

If you drive your car hard frequently, just make sure to stay on top of the motor oil and trans fluid - motor oil/filter changes every 3,000 to 4,000 miles, transmission flush and refill about every 30,000 miles. Still, that doesn't mean you should max-out the gears every time you take off from a stoplight. Mechanical parts still wear out with abuse over thousands of miles, regardless of maintenance.

  • @autokritiker How do you purge power from eCU/TCM? By just removing batt power for a few minutes?

  • were you going downhill by anychance

  • Nope.. I just did it on a country back near my house. It's not a drag strip or anything, but it's pretty flat.

  • just picked up a 2006 sonata, and i must say its a very nice car, i would put it up against anything, very powerful i think "better" is just an opinion, a bmw is" better than a cadillac, etc. ask 10 different peopel, u will most likely get 10 different answers. everyone is different to be fair.

  • yeah i agree. Personal preference definitely comes into play when talking about cars.

  • When you going to make another video?

  • I'm not sure.. I've been really busy with work and school but I should make a new video soon. I'm gonna get new wheels and tires first probably. I figure I'll get better performance with the increased traction.

  • Most likey not much.

  • you're probably right but it can't hurt.

  • get some lightweight 17"s dont go big or chrome it will just slwo you down my friend has a really nice sonata check it out its under v33sonata

  • I disagree. I think the sonata is better looking than those two, but that's a matter of personal preference. The reason why the shift into second lagged was because I was holding a camera in one hand and I couldnt shift myself (shift-tronic mode) so the car did it automatically at peak rpm.. I would have left in drive mode but it wouldn't be as fast.

Accords and Camrys are nice cars and all but the sonata's value is arguably much better. The 06 sonata was a better car than the 06 camry anyways.

  • no way a camry or accord would rape Sonata. These things go to like 150 mph and would murder hose cars anyday. And the design isnt ugly its better then that camry and new accord is just a copy of it

  • u have low gas

  • yep

  • The V6 makes yummy sounds considering its stock...

  • The 2006 through 2008 Sonata has better build quality than the 2007 and 2008 Camry - inside and out. The 2009 Sonata has an all new interior, and updated exterior, and now has the same overall build quality as the 2008 Accord. I know since I've driven all 3 of these cars.

Everyone "noes"??? It looks like we have another illiterate know-it-all. Keep posting in here so everyone can see how ignorant you are.

  • doesnt matter....everyone noes accord and camry are way better than a sonata...its a hyundai...maybe in 10 years, hyundai will be on par with honda and toyota...but for now, a sonata is just a poor mans camry/accord

  • its creeping up on the accord, but not the camry. Camry is still #1

  • Camry was 5th, Accord was 1st, and Sonata was 4th in that comparison. You paid $26,000 for your Camry, so you better be think it's #1.

  • i know i paid 26 g for my camry. Stop pointing out the odvious. I test drove the altima, accord, and the sonata before i got it. The camry has sold more units then any car in its class for the last 9 out of 10 years. Dont u think theres a reason that people are paying more for them? Its because their known for their quality and reliiability, and everyone that gets them loves them. Your opinion may be that the sonata is the best, well just look at the sails figures, because they dont lie.

  • "Sails" figures? What a surprise when they have so many geniuses like you buying their cars. You know, with all your financial success I'd expect you to be out on the water in your "saleboat" instead of making a fool of yourself in here. I have a suggestion for you: next time, buy a used car, and with the money you save you'll be able to hire yourself an English tutor.

  • lol

  • I will make it clear one more time. Sonata is not a better car than a Camry. However, Camry is not better by $7,000. Yes! Most of American are happy to buy Toyota for $7,000 (plus interest) more. Those American also have average $10,000 credit card dept, losing house, cars ,and even pets. They spend more than they make. One of most rich country's people now need government aid ( Economic Stimulus Payment). You still don't understand my point? I don't want to be one of those dumb fuck species.

  • You never seen a new Sonata in person? Go check one out yourself. It has better fit and finish than Camry.

  • Here is one for Sonata "This light makeover is appealing. The center stack, the IP, and the center console are totally new, and they're far more modern and rich to the touch, especially the convincingly real-looking wood." ---- "Sonata playing a nicely orchestrated sonata called, "Creeping Up on the Accord."

  • Your belove Camry got less score on recent C&D comparison test. " On the other hand, the Camry steadfastly declined to engage in any childish behavior, supplying the least skidpad grip, the slowest lane-change speed, the most body roll," "It's no secret that the Camry is aimed at 50-something baby boomers. Just look at its center stack. The radio buttons are large, round, and exactly where they were in the '60s". HAHAHA!

  • hey mycarfast, i just found a video comment you left about the camry being faster then the camry. You two faced sone of a biatch

By the way, Y do you think your Accord will be faster than mine? Last time Edmunds compared Family sedans, Sonata ran second fast after Camry. Your 3.0L Accord was third fast. Your Accord own Sonata in your dream?

  • my 08 camry has a 3.5 with 268 Hp. 0-60 in 5.8 is what car and driver rate it at. Haundai is a cheap pos

  • and you paid $8,000 than my Sonata?

No wonder Y lots of American go bankrupt. Losing house, cars ,and even pets. They spend more than what they make, and you are one of them.

  • Change your logon name to "ITHINKICANBANKRUPT", "ILOVEMYMOMSCAMRY", or "REPOMANSBESTFRIEND".

I made much more than average American last year, still drive Hyundai which is paid off within 2 months. HAHAHA!

  • you dont know my back ground, nor what i do for a living. MY car is financed $2,000 down and $290 a month. So, i realy dont care if you dont think i can pay for my car, because i know i can. Never been late on a payment, and this is my 2nd camry. Sticker price was 25,589. There was no need for a personal atack.I think you need to grow up.

  • You are the one who calling other cars as "POS". Remember? FYI, I paid cash for my wife's 06 Kia Sedona EX $22,000 cash when I traded in Acura MDX. At the same time, I got my 06 Sonata LX $21,000 with cash too which I traded in for 08 SOnata GLS. I got GLS $18,500 this time because I did not like leather that much. Even base model V6 GLS comes with ESC & traction, MP3, power seat, 6 airbags, Auto light...so much more. I don't know what you got more on your $7,000 more Camry?

  • i got 7 airbags, auto on/off headlights, aloy rims, michelin tires, 6 speaker am/fm/mp3/cd player, about 30 more HP, better MPG and i opted to not get trac. control incase i wanted to have a little fun with it.

  • You did not opted ESC, could not afford it. You can turn it off if you want. EPA MPG is same on V6 Sonata and V6 Camry. You paid $7,000 more and got less than I did. Do some study before you post jokes aroud. Once again post your video that shows under 6 sec.

  • with the camry you cant turn it off, get your facts strate. ANd i dont need to post one. because there are already multiple videos of a camry doing 0-60 in the sub-6 second range.

  • Is it Hyundai's fault that Camry ESC does not come with on/off? My Sonata comes with it. You can buy basic I4 Sonata for $15,500 nowadays and still comes with ESC. I'm not saying Camry is bad car, they just charge too much for the name. I won't pay $7,000 more for less just because it has Toyota logo on it. You get it? After all, its your own money, so I don't care waht you buy. Just don't tell me my car is POS either. Yes! I will take Camry if you want to pay for it.

  • Go take a look at shopping malls. Its almost empty compare to couple months ago. People don't have money to spend, can't even fill up gas on their Honyodas. I drive peice of shit a Hyundai which was $5,000-$8,000 less than a Camry, but I have money to spend and enjoy. Who's smart one?

  • Put a video up then, tool.. and not one of your car clicking... And while your at it, give one good reason why you think this car is a pos. I spent 13000 for a fully loaded 2006 used(30000 miles) and I'm more than happy with it's performance and quality. What did you spend? 19,000? 20000? more? Is it even fully loaded?

  • As long as Manual Auto is safe, I will use that to race other cars from now on. I am sure I could beat my friend's Ram 1500 sport HEMI with that method. I lost race to him by a car length, and I left gear on "D" drive. Let me know if you do auto manual often and your car's tranny fine? If then I will use it everytime i race. By the way, I blew the doors off of my co-workers IS250 on Tuesday mornning race.

    I love my Sonata.

  • I don't think ITHINKICANFLY can put video up. I don't think he is even own a car. I think he likes his mom's Camry. Even though he try with his mom's car, it won't be less than your Sonata's 0-60 time anyway. Even with V6 Camry, it will lose .5 sec on street start. It won't beat your 5.8 sec record. C&D's number he claims on Camry is timed on a machine not on street start.

  • Just wonder if you saw "sonata vs Civic si" yet. That guy beats SI, titan, 3.5 Altima, and fly at 152 MPH. Take a look at it if you haven't. GTI is the only car he could not beat. With your car, you could take GTI and ITHINKICANFLY moms Camry for sure too.

  • first of all, the sonata fully loaded doesnt have near the amount of options a fully loaded camry can have. ANd the reason i feel its a pos is the fact that they cant come up with their own design. They're cars are like bits and pieces of all the cars on the market glued together. And i dont need to post a video of my car to prove anything. Just search camry 0-60 in 5.7 and check it out. Toyota has always been better then haundi and it always will be.

  • First of all, the redesigned 06 sonata was a way BETTER car than the 06 camry. The only reason why the newer camrys increased the horsepower is because the sonata and accord were much better, faster cars than the camry. They greatly needed to improve to catch up with HYUNDAI (haundi?? wtf?) and honda in terms of innovation. I think your just a little intimidated by my 0-60 time. Put a video up of you car beating this time and I still won't feel bad considering your car was nearly 30 GRAND!!!!

  • So, Should I use manumatic for race or not?

  • Yes.

  • hahaha a camry doing 0-60 in 5.8 sec, nice joke

  • look at car and driver, its no joke.

  • You are not a proffesional driver at C&D. You will never get that number on the street.

  • Its less than 6 sec. I timed 3 times and still getting 5.89 sec.

  • You can't start timing when the dial moves. You have to start as soon as when he presses on the accelerator. Also, not all speedometers are precise. New cars can be off by as much as 2-3 mph. I haven't read anywhere where this car can do 0-60 in <6seconds. But I have heard they can do it just under 7 seconds, which is still pretty quick.

  • Caranddriver magazine's official number was

6.6 sec with full gas tank. This car has drop in K&N air filter and almost empty gas tank. Y don't you time it yourself. Its less than 6 sec.

  • When you have it in Shiftronic mode, do you let the ECU decide when to shift, or do you tap-up on the shifter at a certain speed or RPM? Did your car start revving higher after you installed the K&N air filter? Does it seem that Shiftronic lets the engine rev higher than normal auto mode allows?

Most '06 to '08 Sonata V6's seem to not rev over 6,000 RPM regardless of what mode you have transmission in. Somehow, you're able to get your car to rev out to 6,100/6,200 RPM.

  • I like to shift the car myself, but for this run I let the car shift for me because I was holding a camera. When I shift it's slightly above redline(roughly 6000). The K&N probably didn't have anything to do with because it just helps air flow, but I never timed my car before I had that air filter :/

That is odd though. I didn't know most sonata's ECU shifted that soon. I'll do another run in my mom's sonata and see when it shifts.

  • you're right. my mom's shifts at 5900-6000. I don't know why my ECU lets me go over.

  • Is that really stock????

  • Yeah it is. Just has a K&N replacement air filter.

I think it might have had something to do with how much gas I had. I was below empty so that's like.. at least a little over 100 lbs of weight taken off. But still it feels faster than my mom's 07 sonata v6.

  • is this 2.7? mine does 60 mph in 10 sec

  • No. In 2006 Hyundai revamped the sonata. It 's a completely different car. The V6 in my car is a 3.3 liter that produces 234 horsepower and 225 foot lbs of torque. The 2.7 in older sonatas produces 172 hp and 181 f/lbs of torque. The newer 3.3s also get better gas mileage.

  • i test drove one 2 hours ago and i went on a flat stretch and had my foot to the floor and it didnt look as fast as that one eventhough it was pretty quick...and the one i drove was an 09

  • Thats weird, considering the 09 has 15 more horsepower.. Did you have it in shiftronic? Have AC on or anything like that?

  • i was using the shiftronic.the a/c was off.i don't know why
