I believe he was trying to convey the insanity of the mn more than what he was actually saying. From what I gather, I think he's saying something like "I am Jesus Christ, I am the greatest actor in the word, etc etc" Maybe not that exactly, body his face and body language say as much.

The footage with Mick Jagger in it is hilarious!!! I cannot believe that he was originally chosen to play Fitzcarraldo. Imagine how much more sensual he would have been. But then again, it would have dulled the neurotic edge that Kinski provided for the role. It was his obsessiveness that made the role and Jagger would not have pulled it off.

Really got to see the rest of Werner's movies. Only recently got into them when I told my brother about Incident at Lochness and how highly everyone speaks of Werner's movies. Fitzcaraldo was AMAZING! Nosferatu I didn't like so much as I simply enjoyed some of the cinematography and music, but Klaus was a perfect dracula. Watched both versions, just didn't rub me in the right way. But I can't wait to hit the library and grab every Werner film I can find! amazing, AMAZING director.

I love him too! Perhaps my favorite foreign film director of all time!  I just love the messages that he projects in his films! They inspire me to understand that no dream is too pretentious to accomplish as long as you have the vision for it! I personally think Herzog is a better role model for film than Fellini!

werner herzog hat große filme gemacht mit klaus kinski. da klingt es anmaßend zu sagen, dass er sich geirrt hat mit seinem urteil, dass dieser mann ein genie war. aber womöglich ist es so. menschen haben nun mal die tendenz, in ehrfurcht zu erstarren vor geisteskranken - wie die römer vor dem "morbus sacer". und diese tendenz kann man medienwirksam nutzen. auch wenn herzog aufrichtig ist und das nicht so empfindet, er hat kinski für woyzeck etc im sinne von "personality casting" eingesetzt.

The Woyzeck movie showed what could have been if Klaus Kinski decided to became a serious artist doing serious work and things; a suburb version of world literature. Kinski as oppressed creature falling into the darkness of madness out of jealousy is legend. Kinski and the scum is an ongoing love story: Kinski needed the scum as contrast to become himself. But his quarrelling with Herzog is legend, too. The Indians seem to be quite afraid of Kinski...

Firstly, It is great to see all of these Herzog films on YouTube. Secondly, The subtitles aren't important for this film. The message is in the intensity of the character that is Kinski, and any meaning that can't be gained through this intensity has no importance really. The disconnect that exists for us non-German speakers seems to be the same detachment that Kinski had from everyone around him. The lack of subs should have no bearing on your understanding of this story.

The "Kinski Spiral" is pure genius. I had noticed it before, but couldn't quite put my finger on what he was doing or how it worked.

Good thing Robards got sick, Jagger is shit for an actor. Kinski outperformed both of them combined by a vast margin.

Today alone I have seen 5 Herzog films, most that I have never seen before. Youtube and Starz just went up a few hundred points in my book. All stupid horseshit of the past is forgiven, uploading these films is a gift to the planet.
