That's a women?? Uh one of em them is a chick, the other is a dude.. good music, but I don't speak mafia so I've no idea what they are saying... Maybe I should watch more sopranos
I love this song soo much! Im from New York ps and Dont understand anything except for rayo de luna bc it sounds like spanish! She has an amazing voice!
Raggio di luna, Mamma Marema, Arena blanca mar azul, Mamma Maria... es lo latino que trasciende. Solo agradezco haber nacido en esta parte del mundo. Ojala nunca cambiemos.
If I remember right, Matia Bazar were told that very day they had cut their composition down to less than 2 mins length for the contest. A bit unfair on them because of their instruments. Even now, its a bit too sophisticated at first listening - its a brilliant song and way the best that year!
What your'e saying is very very strange - given the fact that the contest was held on saturday, and Israelis don't work on saturdays (including when when Eurovision is in Israel).
And besides, how could they no know about the 3 minutes rule? didn't they notice during the reharsels that other songs are much shorter?
Anyway, a beautiful song and very good performance, but I think this song didn't fit to bombastic winners of the 70's...
I'm an Israeli and I was a little girl when I watched this eurovision and the Italian song made such an impression on me. I thought the singer was the most beautiful woman I ever saw, and the song sounded magical. Years later I became a big Matia Bazar fan. I prefer this song to the more conventional Haleluya.
That year you could hear some interesting songs. From my point of view, "Raggio di luna" was the best one, but I think the mics didn't work fine and the song went a little strange... even what I think is the best song don't use to win, anyway. Haleluya is a great song, and Milk and Honey did a superb perfomance, too but, did you hear the tune Tedd Gaersted sang that day? It's great!
This is my favourite of 1979. I love its easy-going summer vibe, and the perfectly understated arrangement. I don't personally have a problem with the vocals, I find them to contrast the music nicely. It's funny just how divided people were on this - only four juries gave Italy any points, three of them 8 points!

No other competitors better then Matia Bazars. And consider that this was, probably, the worst piece of their production....

They were obviously nervous. They often sang off key.
Unfortunately the producer mixed the singing - especially the backing vocals - too loud (the music too low), which made the impression worse.
This is a pity, I agree it would otherwise gone much higher.

Meh... It's okay, but it didn't deserve more than its 15th place either.

He probably meant Ted Gärdestad, who represented us (Sweden) that year.

Interesting comments. I do really like the song, but her voice in particular is a bit thin & screechy for me.
