I think it makes most people reminiscence, but the best part is that it represents something different to each of us. Nothing short of a masterpiece, this is how you can tell. If someone would die to LIVE in a world you created, shown in only two hours then you have done something great. THAT is truly amazing...
Ok, my two favorite things (princess mononoke and the legend of zelda) were both made around my bday. ocarina of time, the year i was born, and mononoke the year after. i beat zelda OoT when i was three, and ive watched this movie since i was two. to this day i watch this movie at LEAST 10 times a week.
i would do anything to be able to actually live in that movie, it might sound weird but alot of people dont understand the way some people apreciate things or the level and amount in which we they do it in, if love something enough or at all, never let any one tell u its stupid or whatever, and i agree with thetopherhaslanded, i could totally die to this song
@brandozhagn It took Miyazaki 16 years to fully complete this one...who knows, hopefully he already started a second one! I really want there to be a sequel, too, since I really want to see what happens next.
magical and absolutely original, i love this song so much thx for posting it and it does suit very much to hear while walking in nature or through a forest.
@noobpwner1000564447 hell yeah! This music is wonderful and keeps me from having nightmares! The trick is to listen before bed and not listen to any other music after it till morning. Just leave your thoughts to the music and let your imagination flow with good things... pure bliss :)
Favorite Miyazaki movie. :) It always reminded me of a game that came out around the same time as this movie called Jade Cocoon. I think the animation from the opening might even be Miyazaki.
LOL. My brother even thought their might have been some Japanese movie or anime based on that game.
@Andrejispanickin Why? Because it's in English? Just because it's in English, doesn't mean it sucks. Besides, if you're so against it, just switch to the Japanese version (there's a reason that these movies have the Japanese tracks too, you know.)
Such a beautiful song.. I'm so happy that Neil Gaiman adapted the Englsh script for the film/these lyrics. Combine Miyazaki, with Gaiman - add Hisaishi's music, = wonderful.
I really liked this song but after getting the Japanese OST I haven't heard it in English for years. I prefer the Japanese version. This one is still nice but not as good as the original.
Jesus Christ it's not a fan competition here, it's just AstralDragoon saying his feelings. The point isn't to prove fanhood or something by recognizing "Princess Mononoke" is not her ACTUAL name, and that San really is, the point is that he was moved by the movie, and that was exactly what the movie was created to do.
The music and words in this song are so beautiful yet so haunting to hear. For some reason though, listening to it always calms my heart no matter what troubles it.
In the moonlight i felt your heart quiver like a bowstrings pulse in the moons mere light you look at me nobody knows your heart when the sun has gone, i see you beautiful and haunting but cold like the blade of the knife so sharp so sweet nobody knows your heart. All of your sorrow grief and pain locked away in the forest of the night your secret heart belongs to the world of the things that sigh in the dark or the things that cry in the dark
I nearly cried when she was about to kill Ashitaka... This song is so beautiful, it makes me imagine Ashitaka and San walking through a field of flowers, holding hands....
this song is simply beautiful i can listen to it over and over and it wouldn't get old the music is amazing and meaningful and the song this goes to well the movie is awesome Princess Mononoke is a kickass movie woot woot XD lol
@itsalightbulb it works man, we musta had the same idea. I did it once, actually, I walked through the forest and to a waterfall. It was beautiful. Just sitting in the morning dew, watching the sun rise/ :)

This song is just so beautiful and magical that while I was listening to this song, I completely forgot that I had a stomach ache and it went away. :'D
Many people in the USA and other places don't even know this film due to being attracted to other bs films which are not clever and good enough. This film was amazing and it is easily hidden from others like a lost treasure.
@Conkinator451 I would not put this in a genre. And I do not know any music that sounds exactly like this. But something which I think resembles the style a little bit, is October Project. Unfortunately they only have a few songs on Youtube. (And they only ever released 2 CD's before they quit, but they were brilliant and very moving too.)
Princess Mononoke was my first Hayao Miyazaki's film...and so far I've probably watched more then 10 times and it's definetely one of my fave cartoons...and one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard...

This song is so hauntingly beautiful...it sends chills down my spine! Joe Hisaishi is a god of music and is the perfect combination for Hayao Miyazaki's films
I'm not a huge fan of anime, but this movie defined what anime really is to me. This movie is on and will remain forever on my list of favorite movies of all time. I can't describe with words how amazing and moving this movie is.
this wa like my child hood movie,i remember watching it when i was younger XD thats why i got into liking wolves, notjust that cuz a experience with a wolf helped me^^ :P but this song is so nice :)
This song is heartbreakingly beautiful, just like the movie itself. I was so moved during the scene where the Princess feeds Ashitaka that I almost cried.
Does anyone else agree that Princess Mononoke is just about the most amazing woman in any movie? It's not just her exceptional looks; she blends courage, ferocity, gentleness and devotion into a spirit that burns like a firebrand, untamed and vibrant. I would try hard to win her heart if she were real.
@AstralDragoon dude. not only would would fight for a girl like her.... and there is a girl who is so beautiful like princess mononoke and has got nearly the sme character like her. and the movie , also the characters and music are perfect. in my opinion "Princess Mononoke is better than avatar and titanic. it's like the fusion of both films. I thought that it would be never a perfect film.... but there is one.. It's called "Princess Mononoke.
when ashitaka started crying =[ i was like omg! T-T
i love Ashitaka's character the most, i wish men were like him. he has such a pure, devoted, forgiving and fighting heart. i love how miyazawa designed him, Ashitaka was a great person, yet can become angry and well be really human and not rather a fictional character
@AstralDragoon I very strongly agree with your comment. this song, the scene and above all the movie really did move me. I really did almost cry.......
@AstralDragoon choose your words carfully she might bit you or stab you XD or she can get you shot at... but then again I think it would be worth it ;P
@rakimion it's nothing of the kind, you silly person. It's supposed to be 'mononoke hime,' the princess of the monsters.. not 'princess monster' >_> if you don't know the difference, go watch 'prince frog' or 'princess bride' as if those were their titles.
@KairuHakubi i allready knew that. but still.. the movie is called Princess Mononoke, and Lady Eboshi calls her Princess Mononoke, there fore, she id given a title from her, which is Princess Mononoke, i'm starting to belive you've havn't even seen the movie.
@rakimion It sounds to me like you've only seen it in english. It's not 'princess mononoke', it's Mononoke Hime. Again, that's like "The Frog Prince" story being titled "Prince Frog" it's completely misleading.. I didn't think it was so bad, but clearly you were misled.
@KairuHakubi accturly, i watched the japaness version first! and i KNOW her title in japan is Mononoke Hime, but gues what? I'M NOT JAPANESS! and, have you mabye thought of that i call her by her english title becous i like the sound of it betetr? and, in english you mabye but words diferently than in japan? dude, from what i hear of you, i belive you are one of thos that belives that everything you say is right, but you are NOT! so stop provoking someone cuz YOU think YOU are right!
@limitova I disagree. That's the more common translation, but it's extremely inaccurate in the sense of the english word 'demon' referring to an aetherial, insubstantial, evil creature, whether in the judeo-christian sense or not. It does, however, suit the original meaning of the greek word daemon, which was basically any kind of spirit.. but EVEN SO japanese monsters tend to only be -kind of- spirit-ish, it depends. Here they can clearly bleed and die, but they're mystical in their own way.
In moonlight I felt your heart Quiver like a bowstrings pulse. In the moon's pure light you looked at me. Nobody knows your heart. When the sun is gone I see you; Beautiful and haunting but cold. Like the blade of a knife so sharp... so sweet. Nobody knows your heart. All of your sorrow, grief, and pain Locked away in the forest of the night. Your secret heart belongs to the world Of the things that sigh in the dark... Oh the things that cry in the dark.
OMG!!! i love it!!!! her voice take me breathless!!! its so beautifuly sing. all i can say is "... ... ..." *speachless* beautiful brings tears to my heart. it doesn't matter if its japanes or english its so beautiful in every way i love it. i have to say this "Haoyo Miyazuki master of animetion" thanks to all the hard workers and everyone who help put together a master peaices." thank you!! this is great! and thank you the person who upload this song! i love it! thanks
I like this version. But it's not quite as good as the original Japanese.
Hayao Miyazaki is just a god. Pure genious. He outranks any Disney film ever made. In fact, it's so much better than Disney that Disney shouldn't be in the same name as Ghibli.
I hope people can see the beauty of animation like this and realize that the human hand is superior to a computer's 3D animation.
Nothing beats the good ol' traditional way of animation. It's real art.
in germany u can watch it if u are 12 and something like black cat can u watch if u are 16 .__. i think that´s strange cause princess mononoke is sooo bloody more than black cat u know .__. well i don´t care <3 because i were 12 when i watches it the first time <3
Hayao Miyazaki is the greatest of all the animationmovie creators! I visited his Ghibli museum in Tokyo a couple of months ago. If you happend to go to Tokyo someday. DONT MISS THE GHIBLI MUSEUM!
This song always pulls at my heartstrings. I like this one too, but the other one without the instrumental accompinent I like better. But this is my favorite Miyazaki film ever!! All I can is both versions are pretty good.
hey check out this beat I made off of this AWESOME music!!! :DDD

The lyrics are really beautiful.

@AstralDragoon i agree =]
that scene almost made me tear up
when ashitaka started crying =[ i was like omg! T-T
i love Ashitaka's character the most, i wish men were like him. he has such a pure, devoted, forgiving and fighting heart. i love how miyazawa designed him, Ashitaka was a great person, yet can become angry and well be really human and not rather a fictional character

@AstralDragoon Hey, if you can describe a girl like that, you shouldn't have a hard time winning anybody's heart!

@AstralDragoon her name isn't princess mononoke. some fan you are.
KairuHakubi 1 year ago
@KairuHakubi I knew that when i commented, but at the time, I didn't know how to spell her name, although I knew how it sounded.
AstralDragoon 1 year ago
@KairuHakubi it's not her name, but it IS her title! some fan YOU are
rakimion 11 months ago
@rakimion it's nothing of the kind, you silly person. It's supposed to be 'mononoke hime,' the princess of the monsters.. not 'princess monster' >_> if you don't know the difference, go watch 'prince frog' or 'princess bride' as if those were their titles.
KairuHakubi 11 months ago
@KairuHakubi i allready knew that. but still.. the movie is called Princess Mononoke, and Lady Eboshi calls her Princess Mononoke, there fore, she id given a title from her, which is Princess Mononoke, i'm starting to belive you've havn't even seen the movie.
rakimion 11 months ago
@rakimion It sounds to me like you've only seen it in english. It's not 'princess mononoke', it's Mononoke Hime. Again, that's like "The Frog Prince" story being titled "Prince Frog" it's completely misleading.. I didn't think it was so bad, but clearly you were misled.
KairuHakubi 11 months ago
@KairuHakubi accturly, i watched the japaness version first! and i KNOW her title in japan is Mononoke Hime, but gues what? I'M NOT JAPANESS! and, have you mabye thought of that i call her by her english title becous i like the sound of it betetr? and, in english you mabye but words diferently than in japan? dude, from what i hear of you, i belive you are one of thos that belives that everything you say is right, but you are NOT! so stop provoking someone cuz YOU think YOU are right!
rakimion 11 months ago
@KairuHakubi yes but MONONOKE meand more Demon than monster :P so she is like "The demon princess"
limitova 11 months ago
@KairuHakubi well if we should be 100% cprrect :P mononoke meand DEMON :P not monster :P
limitova 11 months ago
@limitova I disagree. That's the more common translation, but it's extremely inaccurate in the sense of the english word 'demon' referring to an aetherial, insubstantial, evil creature, whether in the judeo-christian sense or not. It does, however, suit the original meaning of the greek word daemon, which was basically any kind of spirit.. but EVEN SO japanese monsters tend to only be -kind of- spirit-ish, it depends. Here they can clearly bleed and die, but they're mystical in their own way.

Hayao Miyazaki...you sir are the King. Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Howels Moving Castle, all pure gold.
