  • how are they subscribers if they have inactive accounts or they are bots, HappyCabbie, I have just watched several of your videos, I have to say each and everyone seems like some sort of pseduo explanation as to why you just aren't popular any more, you do realize other people can click the analytics and see you have been going downhill for a while now. stop blaming youtube for your irrelevance. you used to have an intellectual point, now you just seem like someone with a grudge, accept fate.

  • @shawnio Well as you know because you read the article linked in the video description they are inactive accounts. These include accounts that have been closed or simply have not logged in for a few years. When the purge hit I lost about 1000 subscribers. Not to big, I was expecting more.

  • Not trying to be a douch here, but in one of your annotations I see the word "blob" as oppose to "blog" not sure if that was intentional or what but just giving you a heads up ok.

  • Thanks for the explanation.

  • at least we'll get DECENT numbers.

  • I am so damn happy they are doing this

  • Hahahaha a lot of youtubers were causing a lot of discussion among the community, and majority of it was exaggerated. People were thinking they'd lose half of their subscriber base. Out of every channel I have researched, no one has lost more than 5% of their subs. The removal process began February 9th, 2012. :)

  • I havnt lost any

  • How many subscribers were cut from your channel HappyCabbie?

  • @animevet I lost about a thousand about 2 hours ago and quite a few in the past two days for obvious reasons

  • My count on vidstatsx went down by a hundred or so, but my youtube account did not go down at all. What's up with that?

  • @dangerouslytalented You will have to ask Vidstats about that. My theory is not everyone is being hit at the same time.

  • @HappyCabbie I just looked at my number on my homepage, and now it is showing the reduced number, but yesterday, it still was the higher number.

  • INB4 I go from nearly a thousand to 3 subs. Although it makes no difference really as I guess the accounts being removed aren't viewing my videos anyway.

Prediction: Onision gets butthurt when it happens.

  • This may be a good feature, but I really wish they would quit "fixing" things. I like my channel the way it is, and soon I will be forced to change to the new format. I just don't like it, and I really don't understand why they keep ruining things.

  • without you HAPPY i would never knew about this.that's why i love to watch your video's^^

  • A little off topic, but are there any good videos on getting subscribers out there. I don't think I have more than a couple.

  • Is it just me or do you look 20 times more healthy and much slimmer Happy Cabbie?! I haven't watched one of your video's for about a year so ......

  • Aaah, this is going to be pretty funny! Just watch some of those creationist channels, or that Howtheworldworks asshat's with all his sockpuppet accounts... Just watch their subscriber count PLUMMET when they do this!

Go fig, youtube does something right for a change.

  • I just got 10 subscribers! I hope none of them are removed...

  • Why didn't you tube, when they were giving the site a face lift a couple of months ago, put in a feature to more easily purge subscriber lists? Hell, they fix it so you can block a user from publicly posting on your videos yet still send you nasty PMs for blocking them. To stop them from sending you PMs you have to block them again. Real clever. You Tube, You Idiots.

  • I have one subscriber. I don't know why. I don't deserve it.

  • Youtube is poorly run and has been for years. Sadly there is not a website to rival it, otherwise I would go with that one. Youtube doesn't care about its audience or community, only the key stakeholders that pay to upload copyrighted video content and advertising.

  • @LoneRookRS1 a new website is currently under construction its called syneticon . com , only a handful of people know about it because it is in beta stage and as i say still getting built and features are still getting added but i would check it out if i were you! .

  • Yay, fuck you Ray William Johnson, Shane Dawson and iJustine.

  • scams on youtube have been getting rather nasty.

one recent example was the use of recommended videos that looked pornographic. nope just to get people to click. the phantom accounts issue has been a problem since youtube became popular.

  • wow people buy subscribers? that's sooo lame

  • I read the title thinking that Youtube was going to take away the Subscribe function, but it's just about deleting old abandoned accounts?

  • thunderf00t just faved this, lol, i image he may loose a few himself

  • Why did YouTube want to make all the profiles grey with no friend or subscriber listings?

  • I've only got 85 subscribers anyway :(

  • @Neutrinoghost I have like 3 subscribers... 85 is like the fucking best thing ever to me lol

  • @PraiseTheMetal591 haha, lol. I know the feeling, I had to think outside the box to get more, it's taken ages. I currently get about 5 new every week.

  • And I dont get always massage from recieved/ing one.And dude maybe they take you the subs for you beard ?

  • this coincides with a video thunderfoot did... uhm.... 'the stagnation of youtube'

  • I lost 3. :+)

And i've been here since 2006...

  • Watch Venomfangx go down to about 5k

  • @2Addicted2YT Oh LOL? I'm off over there now to make a note of his sub number. I'm thinking a 10% reduction.

  • have they remove it banned or close account yet on sub? i still got them on my end :(

  • why you acting so serious about it? they removed inactive subscribers, lol

  • @PnutsLove Watch the video?

  • ok. i did found 1 user who did use there account got close. can i say i told you so right now?

  • @rwmtiger Nobody got their account closed because of this.

  • @HappyCabbie than i hope that one user is wrong. he end up opening a new account.

  • ???? ok. i lost none. i take it they are show.

  • They are removing the old dormant accounts to free up server space. A lot of these accounts have videos that have not been viewed in years. It's about server space but ultimate follow the dollar. It's all about money, not because they care about leveling the playing field or scams.

  • @onetwo3349 I disagree. Inactive user names don't cost that much money. HD videos take up a lot more server space. If they were really wanting to cut back they would not be constantly upgrading the time limits for user uploads and file size like they are.

  • @HappyCabbie woot i have a name that that i forgot email and password and username on lol but i have 1 video with like 1,000,000 views XD

  • @onetwo3349 do you realize how "cheaply" servers are to run? I suspect you don't because the various advertisements, "professional accounts" (such as Vevo, commercialized accounts for brands, etc.) can easily make up the operating costs. Especially those channels devoted to marketing brands, companies and services via the use of the Youtube infrastructure.

In these days of TIVO and Ondemand the private sector has come to the internet to get people "where they live" as it were...

  • Question: will this make deleted usernames available?

  • @MalchikBlue no official word on that

  • My SocialBlade data says ALL my subscribers were removed today. I have no 'fake' subscribers I know of, never heard of 'subscription services' and know lots of my subscribers as genuine active accounts.

Having recalled this video in my feed, I came to view it in hopes of some explanation, but what you're saying implies only 'bogus' or closed accounts will be removed. But that may not be the case for me. My Address Book still lists all 596 subscribers, but my SocialBlade data says -596 today. ??

  • @GoddardsJournal Vidstatsx is having the same problem.

  • @HappyCabbie, you're the greatest Happy! :)

Hopefully it's just an 'account error' on the off-site systems. The fact that my Adress Book still lists all my subscribes give me faith in that theory!

  • meant 'accounting error'

  • GoddardsJournal = I had 130+ subcribers and now have 30 some? This is some Oprah/Obama con. Like ACORN nuts full of rotten guts. Can't YouTube figure out who has 50,000 subs and look into all those "greater than that". And purge them first?.....sssseeeesh this is so stupid.

  • @memama2, and they should just remove all connections of an account when the user closes it. That's what they do when they terminate an account for ToS violation, even comments left by a terminated account disappear. Maybe that change will be made.

  • Your down 1400 subs today... the must be starting the purge. (Or you did your own)

  • @JuryDutySummons really that is all, I was expecting closer to 3000. Irregardless it shows the same number on my end.

  • Okay now remove Onision thanks!!!!!!!!

  • @haleyjwilson91 Due to his success being fairly recent I don't think he will be that hard hit.

  • @haleyjwilson91 what has he done wrong

he flowwes all the guide lines so if youtube bans him then he might be able to sue them

  • what we all should do. take screen shot of sub they have now and sub they have after this update. just to see who get hit more. than upload to happy video as video response XD

  • @rwmtiger Just watch your daily count on socialblade.

  • thank god, I "have" 18.4k subs. my views though are nowhere near. excited for a more realistic number

  • @Logdotzip just remember, they announced they are delaying this for a bit. Read the updated blog post in the video description.

  • @HappyCabbie oh yeah i did, just looking forward to whenever it happens.

  • @Logdotzip OMG ARE U LOGDOTZIP!!!!!!!!!!!GUYS

  • @Logdotzip *Stalks your favourites*

  • it's a lie as to why there doing this duh! Big Gov't!

  • @212nycelle212 #LOL

  • I'm taking lots of screencaps of channels I suspect of cheating and see how much they lose.

  • I'm taking lots of screencaps of channels I suspect of cheating and see how much they lose.

  • @BannedUfos ok it should be fun.

  • How may people are fucking happy as all dam hell that Onision is going to get most of his channel subs taken away? ^___^ Ok a little bitchy of me but fuck it I'm enjoying the train wreck that is his life. XD

  • @MistressArte Well read the updated blog post in the description and you will see that YouTube announced today that this is being postponed until they can resolve a glitch with Analytics

  • @HappyCabbie I hope it's soon T__T

  • The stopped color coding comments, so I can't find mine. I wouldn't try to do it anyway. Too much time and really doesn't do me any good as far as I can see.

  • I wonder how many of my 158 will die off.

  • @Deanballoonatic I don't know

  • Now if they would just fix the blocking system or change some things on the new layout such as the friend button, private message button, channel comments appearing on the channel ect ect.

  • @BlindStormTraveler They are working on finding a solution to the blocking issue

  • will the names be up for grabs when they get rid of the accounts?

  • @TheTubeTempest I know a lot of people have been asking that, I don't have an answer.

  • @HappyCabbie But I only just found you!!!!!

  • I agree with YouTube on This one..... Get rid of inactive accounts

  • @1awsomdude FYI Youtube announced today in the updated blog in the description that they are delaying this.

  • Why is it so hard to post a comment here?

  • @RandomfVideos I do not know

  • what a great blog, made me look in mine and i'd be happy t'let yt sort out this sub system

because I can't see a way to actually remove closed accounts, socks, clones and spam bot

    subbers.Cheers :)

  • About time they did it. Will be interesting how it affects different users.

  • @KiddsockTV FYI they announced on Twitter they are going to be delaying it a bit until a bug with Analytics can be sorted out.

  • Comment removed

  • @RandomfVideos Try as hard as you can not to remove comments, it makes it harder for me to reply to them. However I was able to find it.

XDC I have no clue what that means. Xenophobic Dragons of Columbia?

  • I haven't seen any of your vids lately, you look great man.

  • @HaligonianType1 thanks

  • Comment removed

  • hmm, fascinating. *wanders off to check the subscriber numbers for a few people he suspects have inflated numbers*

    Thanks for the update.

  • @Jermbot15 anytime

  • @totalhimnox It all depends on how many closed or inactive accounts are in your subscriber list.

  • I'm thrilled they're doing this. I have over 600 subscribers, but my videos can barely even hit 100 views. It makes me look like I scamed for subs or something. And I didn't.

  • @Freakshow180 well good luck tomorrow

  • No. now i might lose all my subscribers cause i only got 3

  • @thecoolkowalski you won't be hit

  • Well I've been a user since 2006 but I didn't start getting a lot of subs till like 2010.

  • @fruitikay I don't think you will be hit that hard.

  • LOL love the domokun hat bro. Thanks for posting this video and giving us the information. I say its a good thing they are doing this.

  • @MinecraftThraxXx You can get the hat at Walmart for about 10 bucks

  • i got a bad filling about this may not end well. i gust we see soon. cant really stop it now. my biggest fear that we can lose a lot of great video and can cost wrong account. i know a youtube Partners that will be losing there account tonight due to school he taking. lot of his great video will be gone...

  • @rwmtiger This will not cause videos to be removed or channels to be closed, unless they are not tied to a Google account but that is a separate issue.

  • You didn't mention it, but something else they are doing is killing millions of accounts. I had a number of accounts associated with different (non-Google) email addresses, a couple that I used, but others simply because I liked the name, and thought I might use it in the future. Youtube/Google is forcing people to create Google email accounts, and associate them to those accounts. Failure to do so will result in the account being cancelled.

  • @ALatheist Yes they started doing that a few months ago.

  • @HappyCabbie

They may have begun the process a few months ago, but the final notice was sent early December, and informed people that their channel would be irrevocably lost at the end of the months, so presumably they will be purged in conjunction with this.

  • Good to see this cleanup on YT's side... I don't have a huge audience (supposedly around 3,000), but I talk to as many of my subs as possible, and being that my channel is 100% skateboard related, a lot of my subs (existing and non) have similar names. It'll help clear up at least a bit of confusion on my end.

Thanks for the heads up, HC!

  • @grimcity thanks

  • is it just the dead accounts there removing?

  • @MrDiablolord closed accounts and also inactive accounts. Such as accounts that were created, subscribed to some people, and then never used again.

  • Can't wait to see Onision's subscribers drop. He has over 700,000 subscribers, but his video view count is never anywhere near that. He usually gets over 150,000 and sometimes a little over 200,000 views on his videos. I've seen comments of some of his fans bragging about creating multiple channels just to subscribe to him to help him out.

So when is Youtube doing this? Because I can't wait to watch his butthurt video response to it.

  • @GaryFreeman1987 January 12. I would expect him to lose about 20 percent. The reason is his rise to the top is fairly recent. Just like RWJ or ShayCarl. People such as Sxephil who were on the top from the start I would expect closer to 30 percent drop.

I myself expect to lose 15-20 percent.

  • What would constitute a "dead channel"? I have a few uploaded vids on my channel but haven't uploaded anything for quite awhile.

  • @Vampstar27 I think it's channels that have basically been abandoned. If your channel has videos on it but you haven't uploaded in a while, but you still use the channel to watch videos and comment, I think you'll be okay. I have a channel that I stopped using a year ago, so it's one of the channels that Youtube would delete.

  • @Vampstar27 From what I understand a dead channel would be one that was created, then subscribed to some people, and then never used again.

  • Some people I'm looking forward to loosing subscribers, others I will be upset at D;

  • @LoveInParisx yep

  • As long as my Views don't go down i'm good.

  • @h8red42 Your views should be fine, not counting subscription glitches that we all know and love.

  • About time they did something about this.

  • @RomanFightRS yep

  • ...This. Fucking. Rocks!

I so can't wait to see nearly ALL of Onision's subscribers plummet down to not even a quarter of his subscriber count now due to him only having about 150 viewers that aren't all fans! Aha, shit is gonna rock! :P

  • @SpikedYum MUHAHAH YES !

  • @SpikedYum This will only remove dead channels. People who are still active yet don't watch his videos will stay subscribed. It won't be quite as big of a deal as you think it will be.

  • @ForeverAlonePrick BUt, HappyCabby just stated that channels that aren't being used also would be deleted. Also, perhaps channels that aren' viewing his channel for a certain period of time will also be canceled. :)

  • @SpikedYum He's talking about sock accounts. It will delete sock accounts, as well as dead accounts. It won't affect active user accounts.

  • @SpikedYum lol

  • @SpikedYum I expect Onision to lose about 20 percent. The reason is his rise to success is fairly recent.

  • @HappyCabbie Only 20 percent? Not trying to be an ass here, but you should really look at his average view count. Not even a quarter of his sucribers watch him....

He has 700,000 subscribers, and he only gets an average of 150,000 views, keep in mind that not even all of those 150,000 viewers are fans...

  • it's about time. It took forever to clean out my subs and I only have 700+. I wish they would also put them in order.

  • @redshift40 Yes I would love to have a way to organize subscribers in certain orders.

  • how do u purge your account of dead subs?

  • @emerybryant You can't do it with the new layout but before you could. You just hover your mouse over them and click remove.

  • Tomorow.... shit

  • @BernardVision I took one today.

  • this new youtube may go too far, I hope not, but to be fair youtube does seem to be losing some of its better elements

  • @robertwlester I myself support this idea.

  • hopefully it will end the get-subs type scams, those get view things, like your doing "research", in your case on small sexy lady feet, and you click on a vid, and BOOM! your on a youtube video for some lame ass BS, if youtube can end that I be a happy son of a gun

  • I think its a good idea that youtube is going to do this. Cleans out the people that dont watch you anyways. And it will even out veiews.

  • @Sctartaglia yes

  • what is up with you tube these days ??....ever since they have changed their new look it just seems to be getting more crazy ...

  • @jamminmusicman It is for teh lulz. The only reason anyone does anything.

  • it too much like a hassle to know who is active when half the people who don't do vids seem to not have a thumb nail pic, I would thank youtube but it will cut back my phantom subs, but it good. saves pissing around :)

  • This is awesome!!!

  • @llamaempress yes it is.

  • Rozeboosie will lose half his subs. Personally I think it is about freaking time. It is a pain in the ass to go and delete all those empty accounts.

  • @SnowWalkerOne no doubt

  • Good news--thank you for sharing!

  • @xxxild thanks for watching.

  • I imagine this will not affect their revenue, since it's based more on clicks on ads and views right?

  • @Elis60660 This won't affect views at all. Only the number of subscribers.

  • @Elis60660 well. no for most part. but with all the account closing. it can have up or down on youtube money making system

  • @Elis60660 yes that is correct.

  • but how can youtube know which acounts to remove from the subscriber list?

  • @gulbirk anyone who has not logged in in the past month or two.

  • @gulbirk They will be removing closed accounts as well as inactive accounts. From what I understand this is defined as an account that is created solely for the purpose of subscribing to someone and then never used again.

  • @HappyCabbie Well, there goes 60% of my subs, LOL. I dont think its a big deal anyways though.

  • Youtube doing some good and meaningful changes for a change.. that's a new. :P

  • @Achenar12 One of the few changes we can get behind.

  • Aww, you mean that cute girl thumbnail won't be my subscriber anymore? Oh darn.

  • @TheLionsDenNews Indeed

  • lookin thinner buddy, good shit

  • @etrain989 I expect by next week I will finally be under 300 pounds.
