  • beautiful film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but where the scene takes place?

  • I have never forgotten the working title of "The Other Side." "If Wishes Were Horses." I actually like that one better. Don Matos explained to us boys the logic behind that phrase.

"If wishes were horses, then beggers would ride."

Five colorful characters and a beautiful horse.

I remember watching an alley become a dead end for one scene. The plywood wall and phone drain-pipe. I thought, "WOW! Making movies is so cool!"

  • Four years of acting classes, cold readings, lame monologues. However, most of what I learned about acting, I learned from Don Matos.

I spent over a year in production of this 20 minute masterpiece, (You can tell by my three different hairstyles and voice change). Three strange boys brought together, and Don Matos made us friends. Not only did he create a friendship, but he created memories that I will carry with me always and have shared with many who have come in and out of my life.

  • "Close your eyes and listen only to my voice. Go back to the saddest moment in your life. Where were you? What were you wearing? Hear the sounds around you. What do you smell? What do you see around you? What colors are there? Why are you there? What are you doing? What..are you feeling?"

  • As a ten year old boy, just getting his feet wet in the industry, "The Other Side" was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I recall the audition and rehearsals a dark UCLA soundstage. A scruffy looking film student in dirty brown cords, aged tennis shoes and an untucked plaid shirt. His name...Don Matos.

  • The film captured the struggle kids in the inner city have just to grab on to any person or object that provides them some worth. I really liked how the old man was characterized using the kids to his own advantage. Captures the true essence of what really goes on in the inner city yet few people acknowledge or that you see in the papers. Great job. Looking to see more in the future.

  • A very unique film, like no story I have ever seen before. A stray horse in the middle of the city, utterly fascinating and beautiful.
