The Denver trasit system closed their last streetcar lines in 1950 and that was really stupid. I too am glad to see Denver expand light rail. The furthest north the line goes is the 30th and Downing transit station. And yes, it needs to go further north. Plus the line needs to serve areas along I-70. Siemens really makes some good products.
Other than conservation, if the cars can out run the train whats the point? We Americans need speed: like yesterday. San Antonio is supposed to get a mass transit rail system, but it most likely going to be too slow for it's purpose.
We need high speed rail. Most American's shun the inconveniece of having to walk from the station to your destination, but if it was so fast that the trip and your walk still got you there faster than speeding down I25 or one of the other major roads in Denver then people would likely be more inclined to ride it. Denver does have one of the best transit systems in the nation.

Light rail sucks, it doesn't go anywhere anyone really goes and if it did it would cost to much for anyone to ride it. Colorado has had a trolley-train sort of system like this before, and it got ripped out because noone rode it and it was a waste of money.
I dunno man, it might not go anywhere you need to go, but try any other light rail system. You'll see then that Denver's RTD ain't that bad. For example, it is TEN times better than my own city's f**king VTA light rail.
the light rail was a great thing to do, although our rush our is still hell. it goes up to 55-60 mph like christman84 said, and it would be real cool if it did go to DIA.
They need to run this thing out the Denver International and get some low-floor cars so they don't have to use those dumb ramps. But the system itself is already fairly comprehensive...and kudos for buying Siemens LRV's.
Nice for the people south of Denver. Us up north got screwed. Our traffic is the first to back up every morning and last to clear. There is usually a backup at 7:00pm on the north side.
Thats the truth! there are 3 lines south of colfax ave. this 1. on I-225, 2. the line on I-25 and 3. santa fe to mineral line all 3 of these lines lead to Douglas county also the county who refused to join the rtd taxing district forever and the folks up north got squat what is wrong with this picture
I live in edmonton, canada and today our city got "Next-Gen" SD160 trains. Their kinda resemble your guys but rounded of contours to look sleeker. May 8 2008. I made a video look it up in the search engine.
I think ridership would go up if it went a least as fast as traffic, but I do understand the whole traffic thing. I-25 can get pretty jammed up, and with this you can breeze through. Anyone know if the trains are Wifi equiped? Now all they need to do is run an intercity express between Colorado Springs and Denver for commuters.
Sweet, I left Denver just as it was being completed for school in MN, I am from Hampden Heights, Southmoor Park, by Tamarac Square mall. Worked in Lone Tree of of Lincoln, I miss Denver, Minnesota is not the same!

So I've heard. That will be great, and a huge moneymaker for RTD when that happens.
