knitting for beginners: casting on stitches

"what do you mean length of the yarn you want"? How much yarn you will need to make something? Ex. If i wanted to make a headband... i would have take the lenth of how how long i want the headband?

@volcom7311 I'm not referring to the actual piece of work. I mean the tail that you use to cast on the stitches. I like to have a long tail hanging so I can use it to weave my squares together. you choose how much string you want to hang from your work, then knit with the yarn connected to the ball. I hope I cleared that up!
