Excellent stuff from my region - nice one, Granada! While Happy New Year would've been a good choice of song, The Way Old Friends Do is still a damn good and apt Abba song to let in the new year! Will be having this as my new year's closedown on my Facebook retro tv group! :D

Why couldn't we have got closedowns like this in the Yorkshire region? Not only did Lincolnshire people like me have to put up with a Yorkshire bias, we had crap news programmes, no in-vision continuity and not half the charm of Granada, who knew how to give a good send off!! I feel Lincolnshire has been short-changed as a region.

Happy new year 30 years to the day from 2011. That was a fantastic closedown we didn't have to listen to the Royal Families anthem(like the BBC) and the sincerity of the presenters and the song they chose to play out with was spot on. That song is something that we can all relate to and does not glorify the unelected. I hope that one day ITV and TV in general can be again stylish and sincere. All the best to everyone for the new Year may you all find happiness and fulfillment i n 2011

I only seem to remember in-vision continuity in 1981! In the daytime and evening it was just the Granada ident!

A heartbreaking closedown which sums up just how Britain, especially the North of England, felt at this point - the consensus on which people had built their lives was being destroyed, political resistance rendered impossible by stupid squabbles, and these words were all anyone could (impotently, tragically) say.

In the end, that collective spirit was broken. The same spirit broke Granada itself. In the next ten years we *really* will realise the extent of the damage done. Many thanks.

That was worh a 5* rating simply because of Charles Foster's New years message there, proving once again that human friendly touch that ITV used to have. Plus that was also a nice way to closedown there, different than the usual Granada march, and no promotions for ILR either.

get a Sanyo Vtc5000 or VTC5150. They are ultra reliable, parts are still available and are as common as muck on ebay. i have a VTC5150 and the only work it has needed in its 29 year life is 1 new set of belts and 1 new idler.
