I was only talking about the comment about the captain. "captain sounding nervous as fire rages on decks" He dosnt sound nervous at all. And the ship wasnt 5 mins away from being abandoned. All princess ships have been installed with fire sprinklers on outsides desk. They spent millions to make there ships safe.
@mikeyfaust - Right. As you can see I said they spent millions to make them safe. I didnt say anything other then that. The fact is they all do now. They didnt HAVE to but did. Only because of careless people.
Wow. I am amazed at how calm you all were. That's a testament to the passengers and the crew. I'm sorry that one person died, but I'm glad it wasn't worse than that.
adidobre2002, how can you tell people to shut the F*?! up when you over dramatise the situation yourself with "We were only 5 minutes away from abandoning"????
From my understanding of the Star Princess (ive read all the reports) incident, the fire was controlled in 95% of all the cabins by the extrememly effective hifog mist systems. Hardly the 5-to-midnight scenario you claim to know about.
stfu? is that really the best you can do. I make polite comment and you reduce it to base level. I guess with all your 19 years of experience on this earth, my 13 years working on passenger vessels in a position that requires high levels of training just cant compete. No you correctly point out I wasnt there. But the MAIB was, and their report techniques document everything about the incident. The report clearly states there was no immediate danger to pax and the situation was controlled.
Youre absolutely right, people do lie on the internet. If you dont believe me its of no consequence. The first part of my comment wasnt rude, it was an observation that you cant say one thing and then contradict it by over dramatising the situation. If you think its rude, the intellegent and polite thing to do is report me. of course, stfu is so much easier. But Hey - You win. I know nothing. I bow to your superior intellect. Case Closed.
Same here. I was 2nd officer in charge of muster st c aft. Spent 5 hours on a stage trying to be calm, that was the hardest thing i've done. Was SO proud of everybody!!Thankfully we didn't have to abandon ship, but it was VERY close.
mate the old man on there sounds totaly fine to me, sure it wasnt a drill? if it was THAT big a deal it wouldve been on the telly, and you would sure as hell not be hangin bout in the accomodation, be in the boats or standing by, not hangin out in a hall. loser
It was a BIG deal & it WAS covered by CNN news & other networks. Don't be so disrespectful to the people that lost a lot of their own personal belonging from being charred.
People. This was a pretty major thing! I was on that ship. It was a big deal! Almost the whole side of the ship was going to burn into ashes...the boat could have capsized...and he was trying to stay calm!!!Everyone was soo scared and nervous! If you would have been on this ship you would have been scared as hell! I was on the same side as the fire was on(meaning my cabin) and when we where walking to the muster station i could see embers flying off the side of the ship.
the ship was fitted with balconies made primarily of UPVC and Aluminium. These werent considered a fire risk because they were outside fixtures. However they believe a cigarette blew onto one of the balconies and set light to fabric (towel etc) which then set the block of balconies alight, spreading upwards and sideways in a matter of minutes. The rules are now changing btw...!
Excuse me, but we where actually really close to evacuating. You weren't on the ship, all you have is videos and what the news stations choose to announce. That comment was really rude.
where did the fire start????

Dude i am one of the crew members from that ship.
First of all thanks to all passengers. They did a good job being calm and no complaints.
It was the biggest emergency situation in 4 years of ships.
The Captain is probably one of the best from all others. Calm, sure and positive during that situation.
Just to let you know we were only 5 mins away to abandon ship.
And this idiots asking "did it sink" better shut the fuck up, you mofos.

No it did not sink. The crew was terific, and succesfully battled it after around 6 hours of attempts. The name was the Star Princess.
