That is great! I have always wondered how it is done. I'm going to have to try it, as I have Colette and Co. sitting right here, waiting to be assembled. One question: How do you securely attach the finished mini onto the base?
For the floors I'm using wood from coffee stirrers. To be honest I'm not sure about so small planks, but normal wood panels looks ok. But at least now I know how exactly do this if I will need:) BTW I hope you will show this second base painted, cause it looks really cool.
@Valdez2501 In full scale they measure out roughly 6 inches wide. I didn't research, but I think a modern household wood floor measures out about the same. I actually wanted them to look like 2 by 4's.
@Valdez2501 Balsa or strip wood has no wood grain. Other things like wood veneer or real wood would be out of scale to the miniature. This is one of a few cases where the real thing would look unrealistic next to a tiny miniature.
interesting technique; I usually use bass wood(?) strips, but will have try the styrene thing next time.

@Devstro They are pinned. Drill a hole in the foot (or feet) a matching hole in the base, add a bit of paper clip and superglue and your done.

Where or how did you come up with the styrene foam cut so narro and thin to do this?
jimeronimo 1 year ago
@jimeronimo The styrene is made by Evergreen. They have all shapes, sizes, and thickness styrene so I just bought what I wanted.

Outstanding video... love the play by play - I'm going to try this in a few weeks when I start working on some Old West minis. Thanks!

Really nice, effect is truly woody:) Just why not use a wood?
