I think it's common for Satriani fans to dislike this album at first. I know I did when I was going through my phase of only liking guitar instrumental music. Now I'm heavily into dnb and electro as well as the guitar stuff and I fully appreciate this album and the production that went into it. This track is the 'least electronic' of the album and the only one I've seen Satch play live but the rest of the tracks are definitely worth checking out : D
I personally think that this is one of Joe's best albums. And although i did not care for two songs on it Borg Sex & Champagne? I feel that the rest of the album is magnificent.
I'm totally into electronica, so it seems fairly obvious i'd totally dig what he was going for on this album. Digital music takes you to a place in your head that acoustic music just can't.
I have some favourite albums but Satch's cd 's all have an overpowering theme that changes with each one! This album is just another fine example of how Joe
Satriani can convey a message to his audience with a totally new sound. Its like he keeps reinventing himself but not to the point where your like>>>What the hell is this? Satriani = Mind Paradise
I think its the non-musicians in the audience that were more likely to be opposed to this album than not. Anyone who plays guitar and is a fan of Joe would want to hear this material out of curiosity and is more likely to have a positive reaction. Personally I love this album and its too bad people rejected it and cast a negative vibe over it. This is the most unique album Joe ever made.
@altjff15 I don't play any instruments and find this music incredibly stimulating. You don't necessarily have to be a musician, but understanding it definitly helps.
Engines of Creation is Satch's most underrated album. All of my guitarist friends despise electronica in all forms so they refuse to listen to it. The don't know what they're missing.
I agree. I love this album and I saw Satch for the first time, after years and years of listening to him, at Massey Hall in Toronto April 2000 during the Engines tour. Awesome show. An Evening with Joe Satriani and he played for close to 3 hours. Yeah. I play guitar and I have no issues with electronica. Lot's of old school musicians say it's easy and not music. Bullshit! When I first got Fruity Loops back in 04 the shit that people have created on that is nothing short of ridiculous.
@AbominableK And that prejudice is what seperates them (yr guitarist friends) from Joe Satriani, Wishbone Ash, Rush, Eloy, Tangerine Dream etc... Cynic but true.
@AbominableK im gonna have to agree with your friends when you say they despise electronica, but i guess i'll have to listen to this more often to get used to it
its just the beat i think
im more used to shit like Echo and Midnight and The Forgotten
From my point of view music on this album is too "synthetic" I simply can't stand it for a long time:). There is one amazing track on this album "Clouds race across the sky", but it's an exception.
@AbominableK I know right! I've been searching for Techno-Rock or Techno-Metal music but just hasnt been invented,I dont like Industrial Metal cuz well its not really Techno to my ears,in my way of Techno-Rock I would do guitar solos and synth solos with techno beats

Totally agree, the song kicks ass! But I do prefer the live version of it, just because you can hear Joe´s guitar a little better though.

why does this seem like the perfect theme for a video game fight?
breon1238 1 year ago
@breon1238 probly cause this would fit in with most video game fights, this sounds like the music you'd put at a final boss. or a really epic fight.

@TroyAlexanderMooney indeed it is

@breon1238 I was thinking that exact same thing. Perhaps for a Metroid boss or something lol. Just seems to Metroid Prime though.
