@PhillieBRidin GLX is a trim level offered on GTI's, Jetta's and Passat's in the mid 90's and early 2000's it was the highest trim you could get for those cars. the GLI is specific to the Jetta like GTI is to golf, basically a sports package and a better engine, unless you already have a 1.8t then the same engine but with a sports package.

The turbo is hot. Air gets sucked in through the turbo, then gets sent to the intercooler. Your CAI won't make a difference as the air is going to heat up anyways when it passes through the turbo. Instead of wasting money on a cold air intake which does absolutely nothing, spend the money on a front mount intercooler setup. If you want it to sound cool buy a forge diverter valve.

@motocrazyx184 Don't get a long cold air intake. It just makes more noise for zero gain. I know because I had one for three years then ditched it for a short ram air intake. It's much quieter and the power is the same.

BOV's Vent to Atmosphere (VTA) which is very bad for this car,

The BPV recirculates the excess air back into the intake into the Turbo.

My friend has an 04 GLI, I have a Mazdaspeed 3 and BOTH require Recirc.

I Installed the Boost gauge on my friends GLI at the same time we put on the Forge 50/50 splitter BPV. you tap into the boost line after the BPV (Diverter valve) then you run it through the fire wall and to where you want it at.

We got the one that sits on top of the steering column. took us like an hour.

then you have to tap into your ignition for the power, (turn on car, gauge turns on) that was what took us the longest.

@MrAnnan81 I think all turbo cars have a BOV. I can hear it in this one. The ones you can't hear are internal BOV's that instead of releasing the air out into the atmosphere they release it back into the air intake.

that isnt a bov, thats a diverter valve. you can still hear diverter valves because the air intake box has the resonator removed and is an open filter. it that jetta had a bov it would explode because the MAF sensor wouldn't register that enough air is getting back into the motor, so it would pump more fuel into the car causing it to enrich and blow up

Thank you ltellez3190. Seems to be the most common misconception for those not familiar with the K03 turbo. And Impreza22bbs, you're right about the stock K03 being a small turbo. I favor the GT28 or GT30 myself but sound has no bearing on the size of the turbo. Case in point, 18 wheelers, Dump Trucks, Cement Mixer Trucks, F-350's, etc. They have enormous turbos and you can hear them coming from 100 yards away. Sounds to me like you aren't getting enough spool...

i think that GLI depending on the year has a k03s, still small, but not as small as a normal k03. It gets the job done until you want to crank out over 260whp. benefit of starting off with a smaller turbo over a big turbo is that you actually get to enojy the process of making your car faster instead of just having a fastass car and not making it that much faster. na wada mean?

there are 2 types of GLI's 24v vr6 gli's and 16v 1.8t gli's, the 24v is faster! the turbo ones have the anniversary kit, so they look nicer, the 24vs look like a regular jetta, but have 6 speed trans, gli rims, leather wheel/brake and bucket recaro seats.

yeah there bbs rims they came on 04.5-05 GLIs, 337s, and 20ths they just have the VW center caps that come right off when the car was brand new you could either get the VW center caps or the BBS ones at an extra fee
