  • OMG i have never seen mike play so simple before in my life :p

  • This is why Deep Purple plays Deep Purple's songs and Dream Theater plays Dream Theater's songs. Both great bands, but... don't do this to each other, really. Nice try anyway!

  • Rudess is good, but Jon Lord is the best !

  • putang ina mo halimaw ka!

  • Your review is stupid, how is this shred?!? JL sounds great, Portnoy shows why he is the best and DT as a whole takes a decent song and makes it amazing. Go troll some beiber songs you fucking retard

  • Shred, metal sound, horrible singer an drums, bye.

  • @AZEIDJSKSQMM idiot.

  • @lnghrndude02 Aahahah, i feel the fan's rage unable to accept the critism review, headshot or ?

  • @AZEIDJSKSQMM Your review is not very critical. I do like Dream Theater, but even I"ll acknowledge, this is light years from their best work. Not very good sound quality or musicsmanship, I do agree there.

  • @AZEIDJSKSQMM horrible singer? wtf? O_O

  • Sick performance \m/

  • Holy shit, James Labrie sounds good.

    And Petrucci = da bawse

  • Petrucci is wearing Mariachi Pants... LOL

  • ....for you all, to be there in that type of concert....you all know the song very well....!

  • the first 15 rows had to have oxygen after petruccis solo

  • watch my cover of highway star...!Obviously not as good as this but its good

  • koreans like this kinda songs?

  • 100 fans died during the making of John Petrucci's solo.

  • @Stevemcsteve And, that was just in the front row! :D

  • sounds like ----

  • He's no Gillan.

  • this is the best Highway Star's cover

  • amazing !!!

  • check the best new band WORK OF ART THE GREAT FALL

  • 6:06 John Petrucci Eargasmed... and all female living beings in 50 km round got pregnant, even fungi multiplied with the awesomeness

  • JLB unlocked his Ultimatebadass-mode here. I wish he used more of those high screams.

  • @realracingleague So you wants to say that you have expensive car? Or fast car? Retard. :P

  • the best

  • you can tell by this video that dream theater fans consist of alot of classic rock lovers because of how they scream and go crazy every time they hear the famous guitar licks of the song, almost like they were waiting for them.

  • This is simply marvellous. A Kudos to the old masters. And such a great cover!

  • @DACOWLES how does he look like he doesnt want to be there?

  • shit

  • Holy cow

  • waks....mpe mrinding denger teriakan la brie huahhhh...

  • 4:30-6:53 HOLY FUCKING ASS-CRACKERS!!!

  • @nightmarekidforever

Petruci at his best! I've seen both DP and DT live several times. Unfortunatly not seeing / hearing / feeling DT playing this song.

  • @Anoraknofoob No one can do it like DP but DT did better than other bands although the singer looked like he didn't really give a shit and wanted to go home LOL!

  • Classic Coverville; nicely done.

  • @DACOWLES it's his way of performing. some like that flegmatic way, some don't. he sings great in this cover btw.

  • to those 104 who pressed the "dislike button" may be they have been struck in the Highway, lol!

  • Great solo!

  • this bass/drums beginning from addicted to that rush - mr.big is so cool

  • @Grilombrado Huhh ?? This is a Deep Purple classic 1972 !!! Nothing Mr.Bigg made

  • Nice Mariachi outfit Mr Petrucci!

  • Just superb!

  • to those complaining about no soul in there music, there music IS there soul, maybe you don't relate to it, is that a big deal? no. but doesnt give you an excuse to hate, they love to play the music they make otherwise they wouldnt be making it... so their souls are most definitely in it. although the part at 3:40 was incredibly heavy when dp played it, not so much here, and also i dont even listen to them that much, i used to, just a music lover here, some people dont get it

  • Textbook Guitar Solo

  • whoever gave this a thumbs down is a moron...

  • Amzing voice...holy cow!!! Exactly....like the original and live...how many pull this stuff off live???

  • This sounds exactly like purple!

  • what makes this song is the intro, the keyboard solo and the guitar solo imo. every time i hear this song i cant wait for those parts ... they fucked it up big time. w/e the reason... -usually they don't cover the solos to not pay royalties on them... but u cant cover this song without covering the solos and messing up the intro!! voice-bass-drums were good at best... its dream theater FFS it should be perfect!!

  • @drasteek Before you talk about something you definitely don't know, this cover is made over the "Highway Star" rendition that is in the fantastic 1972 Deep Purple live album "Made in Japan", with the intro made perfectly and the guitar solo, if not exactly the same, has the same defining parts and the same vibe (even more if you take into account that Blackmore is known by not repeating his solos live).

  • @drasteek And just to finish: this not-covering-solos-because-of-royalties thing you said is the stupidest ever!! If you had the slightest chance to listen to their cover of the _entire_ Dark Side of The Moon album (not to mention other great examples), you would think twice before touching that keyboard to post nonsense again.

  • Comment removed

  • but then his voice doesn't sound nice here.

  • @aronoldm

Are you insane? His voice sounds awesome!

  • did he rock the whole of south korea?

  • The best, absolutely THE BEST cover of Highway Star!

    ROCK ON!

  • One of the best covers I've heard in a long time!! Holy shit Mr. Petrucci, you ripped in this one. Jordan, great as usual. James, crazy high notes, and what an energy from the crowd!!! Total package!!!

  • THUMBS UP FOR THE TAMBOURINE GUY AT 2:52 LOL!!

  • @alvaro666monster umm, gee, i wonder who that might be..?

  • @alvaro666monster i think it's james the vox

  • @alvaro666monster You mean James LaBrie.... the singer?

  • THUMBS UP FOR THE TAMBOURINE GUY IN THE BACK!! loL

  • Ian Paice con 2 cascos es infinitamente superior al ñato ese con 76 cascos....la pasion no se puede comprar.

  • I'm a big fan of both DT and DP, and I usually love DT's covers, but I don't think they bring anything new or interesting to the table with their Deep Purple covers. Kinda meh...

  • @yatz57 that's what petrucci said in a interview, they like to conver it as reliable to the song as possible

  • Ian Gillan is now jealous :D

  • @SalemTheSalem hahahahahaha you're a freaking teenager xD

  • Está claro que el publico lo que quiere oir es a deep purple,

The crowd better want to see deep Purple

  • wooooh......kind a....i was there with the crowd..

  • @sasori1897 , well, great crowd!!!!

  • THAT was baddass....fok!!!

  • ουτε στα όνειρα τους μπορουν να γράψουν τέτοιο τραγούδι

  • Kinda like Dream Theater, but this is like a sterilised version. Petrucci is not Blackmore and Portnoy is not Paice, whatever they might think.

  • @bruffie2001 You are right Petrucci and Portnoy are 10 times better than them! Good observation!

  • @MrRockstart uuuhh... listen closely to the original!

  • @bruffie2001 I know, Petrucci and Portnoy are better.

  • @Raiderfan123 ....You can't be serious? They are all about technique and no soul in their playing.

  • @bruffie I respectfully disagree, they both take immense pride in their playing. Listen to Dream Theater and it's amazing, or Liquid Tension Experiment. I mean how do you not put soul into songs that are just amazing

  • @Raiderfan123 At least u respectfully disagree, thanks for that :) Like I say, I am a Dream Theater fan, I have 6 of the CDs. Just a personal preference. Hey, Music is totally subjective after all :)

  • @bruffie You have a point, but I'm just saying I think Petrucci and Portnoy are amazing and wouldn't make amazing songs like Octavarium or Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and not take pride. Although I'm not gonna be a dick and not hate on you for your perspective

  • @bruffie While there are a number of Dream Theater songs that might be kind of superficial, I feel that they have many more songs that are oozing both soul and technique.

  • @mitsubachi2 ....Hey there, I wouldn't deny that. Nothing better than The Spirit Carries On :) Just a personal thing with me. Keep rockin' .......

  • 5 virtuosos rindiéndole tributo a otros cinco virtuosos.

  • The Very Best Cover Of "Highway Star" by Deep Purple, No! It's Dream Theater! LOL

  • nice little bow before the kings

    'DeeP PurplE' !

  • what's the relation between dp and dt?

  • They're able to make this fantastic son a a smooth stone ... inch down

  • Ritchie Blackmore the teacher.....the King..

  • This is going straight to my favorites!

  • Ritchie won,t lose any sleep watching this!!

  • ritchie blackmore forever

  • @mocsbn21mpvs2 jony baby 's lord :-)

  • OMG John Petruciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Gee ... they really need to change their vocalist .... somebody like Tim Owens, everything is perfect except vocal

  • hahaha lol Petrucci's clothes, he was cleary going for the metal look. Prefer the casual musculair beast myself. Great cover ! Dream Theater for life!

  • Very good and based on the Made in Japan version!

Completely wastes Steve Morse and the English Dregs.

  • @KazKylheku Really?

  • The cover quality makes me forget about the image quality. They are the best covering other bands but nobody can cover their stuff and make them sound awesome or possibly better than the original ones. Mr. John Petrucci, there is Dream Theater without Portnoy, but there is no Dream Theater without you Sir!

  • Mother of god.....

  • Petrucci had some Steve Vai type stuff going on there at the end of that solo.

  • Blackmore would be proud...

  • @thegreatcornholio80 wrote "Blackmore would be proud ..." If Blackmore were proud, he would have kept playing it properly, after that one and only good take in Japan in 1972.

  • john myung playing on his motherland LOL

  • @petruccirag3 his motherland is mars.

  • Wow 4:40 - 6:50 John Petrucci activated OVERDRIVE!

  • good job!

  • greetings from "MADE IN JAPAN"

  • @schalusenbach lol.. bang on man! this MIJ in overdrive...........

  • OMG! what a great fucking performance...Epic Keyboard Solo & Guitar Solo.

  • 6:00 he do it look so easy :S

  • so, is this just a glorified tribute band or what? Nothing on Blackmore, Paice and the original crew. Not even miles close.

  • @WinstonTizzer wow, are you being sarcastic or are you mentally retarded?

  • @Nate1373 I think @WinstonTizzer is mentally retarded

  • @WinstonTizzer The least you can do is wiki Dream Theater... Lolz. If you wanna see what they're really all about, look no further than the song A Change of Seasons.

  • Great LaBrie!

  • frigging no where next to what I expected from highly studied and qualified musicians....wtf....I know kids with no formal training who could do better....SORRY ...its ALL BALLS xcept for the vocals.......

  • Petrucci is very good, but Blackmore is a god

  • Dream Theater rox cox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jajajaja oooooooooooooooo shit i crap my pantsss myy god fucking orgasm

    10909808080 orgasm with this cover

  • i just came.

  • best version!!!

  • the best version ive ever heard....

  • @cyrilmosh I'm thinking too...

  • Fucking Great Performance....

  • EARGASM!!!

  • @SevenColoredFart I've got some eargasm too here...

  • 3:12 Epic Tuning

  • @MokRodrigues that was so cool he got the bassist to help him tune

  • super very very godddd :)

  • @balerinauzicka it's John Petrucci. Don't you forget it! lol. Seriousely, the most under rated guiarist out there. He's going to win the best Metal Guitar player ever on 2/21.

  • ESPECTACULARRRRRRRRRRR

  • Petrucci's improvisation is awful! :-| This video should finish at around 6:00

  • @rockerD82 You have to understand hes not a blues soloist at all, he's extremely technical. I would imagine its hard for him to imitate someone like blackmore.

  • @rockerD82 now that i listen to it, i think it sounded cool as hell, and he wasnt trying to impersonate blackmore at all, except for the crucial licks that blackmore did.

  • fantastico, il pubblico durante il chilometrico solo di Petrucci spara un boato pazzesco! era la prima volta che vedevano i Dream ? forse si !!!! :)

  • 5 stars

  • Gde je danas sva ta muzika?

  • @sumadijaboy jooj, ne staj mi na muku :(

  • Not as good as the original, but a good attempt...

Anyway, I'm glad they recognize their influences.

Great band -awful vocals- but with a lack of charisma.

  • Petrucci and LaBrie are totally kickass!

  • @Psyhister yes they are....

  • at 5:14 petrucci : I can do it!

  • heftig geiles solo von petrucci

  • y when petrucci does his solo its always long

  • @kmin13 "its always long" lol

  • 4:32 LaBrie sounded like Eric Adams.

  • you can recognize a real rock hymn by the reaction of the audience. its amazing how loud they sing with the lyrics and, especially, cheer at the most legendary parts of that guitar solo.

  • @MrWeezler I was going to say the exact same thing. The audience during the solo is great.

  • Petrucci is not human

  • I remember once, before I've ever heard of Dream Theater, my friend was like "ew dream theater is emo". So I said "ugh, they must suck then". So then a few weeks after that, I stumbled upon one of their songs. I was fucking amazed, by both how awesome this band is, and how dumb my friend was. I almost slapped him in the fucking face.

  • this is fantastic

  • definetely, asians crowds are the best in the world...for every familiar note became crazy!

  • Gillan's vocal more powerful than DreamTheater vocalist

  • 4:51 and and 5:14 you can see, that JP REALLY likes doing what he does!

  • Does anyone but me think that Petrucci looks like Julian from trailer park boys?

  • damn awsome! and james labrie is on FIRE here! damn

  • Nice to see Petrucci play that solo the way it should be played, Blackmore doesn't even do it right! He can't remember it!

  • @scottm43211 Blackmore does what Classic rockers do - he rewrites solos while he plays them and makes them better.

  • @CentraCross No honestly, and I love Blackmore's studio stuff, I've never heard him so it better than what's on the recorded track. Maybe I missed something, can you post a link of a live cut that's better?

  • @scottm43211 DP's Japan version is much better than the studio solo, it's way better than this, and it's better than most guitar solos around.

  • fucking great

  • Wow... Love Dream Theater, love Deep Purple. This actually gave me chills.

  • @blargyblargster same here dude!!

  • why do dream theatre cover so many songs and not play their own only instead? im a big dream theatre fan, but if theres one criticism its that they cover way way too many songs... it sucks and makes them look like a cover band.. time they grew up and stopped being in other great bands shadows and cemented a name for their own for their own music and not others

  • @enzo2enzo2enzo they only cover songs live or as bonus songs. You're obviously not as big a fan as you say :P

What do you own, BC&SL:Special Edition and ACOS?

  • @enzo2enzo2enzo Typically, they only play covers either as a very rare special occasion, a bonus track, or as one song out of a two and a half hour set. I mean, it's not like they have multiple live releases comprised entirely of hours and hours of their own material or anything (Live In Tokyo, Live At the Marquee, Five Years/Once In A Livetime, Live: Scenes From New York, Live At Budokan, Score, countless bootlegs).

Don't get your entire impression of a band from a couple of youtube videos.

  • Lol I love how Dream Theater makes every song they cover at least 7 minutes :D

  • At 6:04 we all got killed by Petrucci's fast playing:D:D:D John Petrucci best<3

  • Oh my God, that was amazing! They killed it, and the crowd's response was awesome. I would have loved to have been there; bet it was transcendant!

  • awesome cover !! i love this song ! when ever we played this the crowd went berzerk !! the backdrop in this song allows a lead guitar to go frickin nuts. i think this is one of the many reasons this song is one that will never die !!! nice job dream theater ! and thanks deep purple for a clasic that will live forever !!

  • Great cover

  • avenged sevenfold and bullet for my valentine are more successful, way better, heavier and have more talented lead guitar players. herman li owns petrucelli. the video game that insults guitar players is the reason why this band even makes any money. kirk hammett is more skilled at guitar soloing. petrucelli is not on the Rolling Stones top 100 best guitarists list.

  • @balerinauzicka Your an
