well.. ok I owned a '66 with an aluminum bonnet, and always dropped gently from a low height! The latches were always clean and lightly lubed which was key for an easy drop. The latches MUST be clean and operating correctly. Even by your method, the bonnet could be distorted if the latches are stiff. So, I'd still be VERY careful when closing at the corners. But the corners are definitely stronger and far less likely to dent. I still prefer an easy low drop with clean lightly lubed latches.
When I bought my 1973 MGB in 1978 it already had a dent in the hood from pushing down. So after the restoration in 1986, dent repair included, I always let the hood fall down in fear of a new one. Now I know a better way, thanks a lot!
thanks a lot! I was always unsure the right way to do this on mine. everytime I pressed down in the center I was a fraid to put a nice palm sized dent in it. now I know what to do.

I do this and my bonnet still pops open into the "pre-release" position while I'm driving. Any tips to make sure it stays down?

if your stearing wheel is on the left side its underneath the dashboard at the left from your stearing wheel.

Terrific stuff John.
Sad to see UM going out of business. The vintage car community will certainly feel the loss of your shop.
Best of luck to you and your employees, you are a class act.
