@orpize Peter, Paul and Mary ...along with disciples of Jesus didn't speak and write in Hebrew....they spoke ARAMAIC which is Semitic language, closely related to Arabic and Hebrew. By t he time of Jesus, Hebrew was just a liturgical language. The torah was read in Hebrew in the synagogue and then an interpreter would would translate the portion. The HEBREW spoken is a modern language with very little in common with the ancient language.

I am learning the Avinu according to the Salkinson-Ginsburg text, and though this song uses what is almost identical to the Abraham Shmuelof text, I found that I can work the S-G text into the melody quite nicely. Actually... the term "Allah" didn't even originate with Muslims or Muhammad. It was the name of a Arabian "moon god" who was married to the "sun goddess". That is why the symbol for Islam has a crescent moon in it. In order to convert the people of the time, they used the already accepted "high god." "Allah" has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Jewish and Christian God. It is not the same god under different names. God is God. Period.
I would have to look it up again, but I heard there was some... non-christian (maybe pagan?) festival going on around the same time and the new Christians kept wanting to participate. So, someone decided "let's celebrate Jesus birth in Dec!" And, a lot of things from that pagan festival actually got incorporated into "Christmas". I *think* that's right... is that what you heard?
It wasn't that the new Christians wanted to participate. The church purposefully made the celebration of the birth of Christ coincide with the pagan fastival so as to draw in more adherents. It was simply an easier switch if the holidays were the same. So on that note, does the fact that we celebrate the birth of Christ on the day of a pagan holiday mean it's not the true Chrtist we celebrate? And Allah literally means THE GOD in arabic, so it's a generic term and not the name of God.

As for Christmas, I believe it is a little scary how much pagan lore has gotten warped into a day that is supposed to celebrate Christ. To often, we get so wrapped up in the celebration, we forget just who we claim to celebrate.

You are right; Not a religion, a relationship with Messiah. Attending Baptist Churches for years, I have seen & experienced the "religion" side, sometimes very organized, other times, nasty/viscious. When Christianity was instituted as an official "religion" of Rome, the Hebraic heritage was deliberately left out for political furtherance of the Roman Empire, which is "not" Biblical; so the faith made it "doctrine" to hide our origins us, which is false "religion" - that's what I meant.

The song is very pretty, and I like it. In my opinion - and please don't take this the wrong way - I find all the arm waving, the melodramatic poses and especially the kooky costumes very disturbing and yet unintentionally hilarious. @orpize Peter, Paul and Mary ...along with disciples of Jesus didn't speak and write in Hebrew....they spoke ARAMAIC which is Semitic language, closely related to Arabic and Hebrew. By t he time of Jesus, Hebrew was just a liturgical language. The torah was read in Hebrew in the synagogue and then an interpreter would would translate the portion. The HEBREW spoken is a modern language with very little in common with the ancient language.

We believe He came first as Mashiach ben Yosef to liberate Israel and the whole world spiritually, and will come again to save Israel physically as Mashiach ben David. Some people use an egg to expalin the Trinity, theres the shell, the yoke, and the white part, but it's one egg. Others use the Names of G-d "Elohim" and "Echad" to illustrate this.

Human "works" or merits are useless before God. The truth about the human condition is offensive. It is not flattering to say we are twisted, broken and helpless. The gospel message implies that our sinful condition is so profound that it literally took the death of Yeshua to satisfy God's wrath for us.

People either were offended at him or accepted him, but Yeshua made it impossible for them to be indifferent about who He was. On the other hand the devil is the ultimate pragmatist and SEDUCER appealing to people to abandon the idea of unchanging TRUTH for the sake of expediency (i.e., "consensus," "tolerance," "ecumenicism," "church growth", etc).

Ooooohh! I see there have been 57 "likes". I was born in '57! lol. XD Well that's not what I wanted to write about, of course. I am learning the Avinu according to the Salkinson-Ginsburg text, and though this song uses what is almost identical to the Abraham Shmuelof text, I found that I can work the S-G text into the melody quite nicely. It was kinda tricky to do in a couple of places, but I got it working smoothly.

Actually... the term "Allah" didn't even originate with Muslims or Muhammad. It was the name of a Arabian "moon god" who was married to the "sun goddess". That is why the symbol for Islam has a crescent moon in it. In order to convert the people of the time, they used the already accepted "high god." "Allah" has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Jewish and Christian God. It is not the same god under different names. God is God. Period.

It wasn't that the new Christians wanted to participate. The church purposefully made the celebration of the birth of Christ coincide with the pagan fastival so as to draw in more adherents. It was simply an easier switch if the holidays were the same. So on that note, does the fact that we celebrate the birth of Christ on the day of a pagan holiday mean it's not the true Chrtist we celebrate? And Allah literally means THE GOD in arabic, so it's a generic term and not the name of God.

I believe that the Christian God is YHWH (the same one Jewish people worship). But, "Allah" is *not* the same as YHWH.
As for Christmas, I believe it is a little scary how much pagan lore has gotten warped into a day that is supposed to celebrate Christ. To often, we get so wrapped up in the celebration, we forget just who we claim to celebrate.
When I celebrate Christmas, I think of Christ. But, does everyone who celebrates Christmas, think of Christ? Not likely. It has become sadly secure.

But when people started to preach and evangelized the church forgot that they had Passover,Rosh hashna, and Yom kippur,and turned to Yule,Samhain,and Ostera(Christmas,Halloween andEaster)

Over the years we have all been lied to by many false Religous Leaders and so called prophets. Many things we have been taught are not even in Scripture and millions have swallowed so many lies by these false leaders. One of my very dearest friends is Palestinian, and I feel your pain, I so wish that Palestinians & Jews could see that they are brothers and desendents of Abraham, & dwell in peace. I will continue to share the message of peace and love to both groups - we must help them both to see that God - THEIR God - supports love and peace toward one another. Christians are the intermediary. Father Abraham loved both Ishmael & Isaac; WE must help them learn to LOVE.

Christians do love Hebrew language and music - we learn all about the Hebrew world in church, that is our whole religion - to study your culture and your religion, we just never get to experience it...we have to keep practicing pagan feasts because no one has shown us the Hebraic festivals. Unless we go to a Messianic Synagog, then we can learn, but really after 2000 years we finally get to practice at what we have been learning?

You are right; Not a religion, a relationship with Messiah. Attending Baptist Churches for years, I have seen & experienced the "religion" side, sometimes very organized, other times, nasty/viscious. When Christianity was instituted as an official "religion" of Rome, the Hebraic heritage was deliberately left out for political furtherance of the Roman Empire, which is "not" Biblical; so the faith made it "doctrine" to hide our origins us, which is false "religion" - that's what I meant.

There are many Practicing Pagans out there who need to see Jesus in THEIR festivals as well. We are a witness to THEM as well, so they can be saved. They won't ever look into Judaism or it's deep meanings, so we have to present them with things that have meaning to them. All Feasts = witness!

The "kooky" costumes are all the drama department could afford - but they are supposed to give people the feeling of how worship was in the Temple.
The arm waiving is our way of praising God - your God. Try it. It feels so good to Love God without hesitation or any holding back.
It is true - writing god with a small 'g' is for pagan deities, only the real Hebrew God gets the capital 'G'.

The song is very pretty, and I like it. In my opinion - and please don't take this the wrong way - I find all the arm waving, the melodramatic poses and especially the kooky costumes very disturbing and yet unintentionally hilarious. It's just my opinion, but this performance is really schlocky and pure kitsch!

I guess you've not been exposed to anyting other than Shul where is absolutely no adoration to Hashem...Yes, the Cantor chants his praises (in a rush because we must be at oneg for noon!) while the congregation chats, giggles and do not give a hoot about what's going on. I know... I see it each Shabbat.

To each his own as they say. I am only expressing an opinion. As a Buddhist, my way of praising the Tathagata - The Supremely Enlightened One - is by sitting in silent meditation (Pancilla), observing the Brahma Vihara or chanting the sublime Mantras very quietly. I prefer understatement and find all the melodrama ostentatious and even comical.

You know I watched videos on the Kol Nidre services and all the Jewish Temples (the Big fancy ones) have beautiful doors at the front with the scrolls inside - Yeshua the Messiah was called "The Door". He said "If you love me keep the commandments" (the Torah) - God's heart is the Torah, let's not break God's heart!

How can you say such a thing? Even the revelations are so obviously similar that any of any Abrahamic faith can see that we are all children and followers of the one true GOD. I am a Christian and I believe whole-heartedly that God, YHWH and Ill-Allah are one in the same. I call my mother "mom" and my sister calls her "ma", we see her a little differently because of our difference in age, but she is still the same mother is she not?
