Gravity waves arent proven. If gravity waves are the cause, they would probably do that to many other things too not just the clouds. Still a cool phenomenon regardless.
Seems like it`s in the speed of 1:60. It`s around 3 waves in the camera width and each wave takes on an average, 10 minutes to cover the entire width. Besides, The perspective is sensational!.
gravity waves are caused by a restoring force of the bouyancy or thermodynamics of the atmosphere. as air is heated it rises and cools but its momentum caries it past its equilibrium point. that causes it to be cooler than air around it thus the sinking motion which heats up the air. That momentum caries it past the EQ point causing the same process again.
What he said...lol. Just think of it as a strong force knocking the clouds out of equilibrium...and the layer of clouds trying to get back into equilibrium again.
This is the one in a higher quality.

Thumbs up if you'd rather have seen the higher quality in the first place.

Whoa, the atmostphere is a lot creepier in fast-motion.
