@Maxwell800 Why you guys always talkin about under-rated? Travis has never been under-rated, and never will be! He is a born winner and has proved it all of his life!
I grew up on a farm in Ohio..some 40 years ago. Farmers were the people I respected most...worked on it too..why not. They feed the whole world.Don't ever forget that!!!
i dont understand why he is not one of the most favorite and most popular artist of today this one of the songs that hit home with all people if one listen to the lyrics it is real
@rodoemichel Travis survived a 'media feud' with Billy Ray Cyrus by remaining true to his 'country' roots and producing good music. Unfortunately, Billy Ray let his emotions rule and it cost him musically. we have to come to grips with the fact that , THINGS CHANGE. A lot of what is now considered real genuine country, was once called 'Rock and Roll', and not accepted by those who fancied themselves as original 'country & western' music fans.
@latokatn506 sometimes the Greats reach out to some new listeners, and sometimes we dont always like this(Alan Jackson, Vince Gil). Ill tell you they only do it temporarily. But lets not forget the magic and emotions their songs bring us everyday because you never know their next new material might be the best you have ever heard
The CMT Video of Tritt and this song in 1997 gave me more than goosebumps. Just something about a father teaching a son about a valuable lesson in life helped me with my son.
I love this song - and I'm from New York City. The first time I heard it was at twilight in the Utah canyon lands, just as the day's light was fading and a phenomenon know as the "smiling moon" was beginning to show through the night's dark sky. The air was cold and crisp at about 10,000 ft elevation... it was a magical moment that transcended all the petty problems of the world.
@wackyruss It's taking in too many calories that makes a person obese. I eat sugar all day long yet have six-pack abs. How is that possible? I practice portion control and exercise regularly.
@wackyruss dont blame the high fructose corn syrup for making people fat blame the people that over eat and are not willing to get up and do some thing about it
This song really makes me long to see my father again great song. Most things our fathers tell us never resonate until we see it for ourselves as we get older. Love u Dad!
There is a lot that a young man doesn't know about where corn don't grow. Ironically; we wind up trying to find out how to attempt to get back. Where corn don't grow.
This song reminds me so much of my grandmother, who raised me. I wanted off that farm so bad. I got away and went to the city. As I got older I returned to the things of my youth. In time I knew why she lived the simple life.
I'm sure Mr. Tritt is paying respects to the other artists when he covers their songs. I seriously doubt he's trying to one-up them or surpass them, whether he does it or not in sales. He's just sharing the music that he loves from people that he looks up to with the listeners. Please quit comparing artists who aren't looking for any comparisons; it ruins the songs.
reminds me of hunting with my dad. we live in the suburbs and every hunting season we drive down to pike county Illinois to stay for the weekend. so every time i hear this song at my house in the suburbs, i think of all the trees, farms, and the fresh air that you actually get down there rather than anywhere near chicago. feels good to think about it
Reminds me of my childhood living on my grandma's farm. I thought life was better in the city till I went there. I figured out what she was trying to till me. Still remember the look on her face. What a wonderful woman to have taken me in.
Thanks. Back in the early 80's some friends of the family were farmers and I spent some time there in their fields picking produce. They had a hand carved sign with that quote on it in their car port where I did a lot of cleaning and sorting of produce. It was wisdom that stuck with me to this day.
@nickmaurus The farmer, coal miner, and iron worker are what made this country, tell me where it would be without them. (I know there other hard workers, there are just whats in my blood)
Awesome song.....small town life has made me think of alot and appreciate what i have and that is family... thanks for sharing this video... it means alot to us all.
wow, i grew up in a miltary life, also moving and hearing about how great growing up in a small town was and wondering why i had to make it in one big city after another and why when i tried to fit in they never trusted my friends--man did i wish i grew up where corn grew
We all must live and learn whether it is about life, loves, or just being ourselves. Sometimes I wished that I did live where the corn grows. But it took age for me to understand that.
Thanks For Posting! Great Song With A Very, Very True Message.Hard Times Are Real/Theres Dusty Fields No Matter Where You Go.I Heard Waylons Version & Tritts Both Are Good. This Song Taught Me A Lot In The Real World Because, I Never Wanted To Listen To Anyone .This Song Reminds Me Of The Fights I've Faced Over Music ,What I Was Gonna Do With My Life Etc. With My Parents. I Was Always Bull Headed But, Just Like Tritt Said The Weeds Are High Where Corn Don't Grow!!! Listen & Learn Itll Pay Off
Waylon Jennings did this song first but Travis is the man this song was made about. Travis and Waylon were good frends. we all miss Waylon verry much!
Paul a dream isnt a dream until it is physically unable to be accomplished...life is great my friend we all have had times in our lives we thought we could have done better but what is so wonderful about life is we can wake up in the morning and shout out loud today I am going to become a better man and you can do all you dreamed my friend I beleive in you.

This song reminds me so much of my Dad. It was one of his favorite songs. It also reminds me of our relationship. I was such a rebellious teenager. He passed away when I was 17 and every time I hear this song I cry. I miss him so much. I wish I knew then what I know now.
Well, you tell cousin Travis I love him too. I had quit listening to country untill he hit the scene.Something about his music can tear my heart out and then make me swoon as he hands it back.

Thats not true I'm 19 and i heard Waylon's version way before i heard Travis's i guess thats because i was raised on good music unlike most people in the world today
this was by far one of Travis Tritt's BEST!!!!!!!! He has sure come a long way on his own, and will go farther still. Leave Waylon alone folks, he was a one-of-a-kind in his own right. There will never be another one like Waylon, orTravis.
Well, I have to respectfully disagree :). Travis made this song a hit song at #6, Waylon's original version didn't even break the top 65, no offense to the great Waylon Jennings. I'm a staunch believer that most people can never sound better than the original version, but one this one, Travis was the better of the two on this particular song.
Without a doubt, my favorite Travis Tritt song. It takes me back to being a teenager in farmcountry, Illinois, chomping at the bit to get out into the world and make it on my own. I remember my dad and I having a similar conversation and this song always takes me back. Thanks for posting this.

this was by far one of Travis Tritt's BEST!!!!!!!! He has sure come a long way on his own, and will go farther still. Leave Waylon alone folks, he was a one-of-a-kind in his own right. There will never be another one like Waylon, orTravis.

Travis' version is OK...but Waylon was the first to record this song and nobody did it as good as ole Waylon...

Well, I have to respectfully disagree :). Travis made this song a hit song at #6, Waylon's original version didn't even break the top 65, no offense to the great Waylon Jennings. I'm a staunch believer that most people can never sound better than the original version, but one this one, Travis was the better of the two on this particular song.

agreed .. it fits tritts roughneck nature, and his voice and band.. travis was the exception to the rule on this one

Without a doubt, my favorite Travis Tritt song. It takes me back to being a teenager in farmcountry, Illinois, chomping at the bit to get out into the world and make it on my own. I remember my dad and I having a similar conversation and this song always takes me back. Thanks for posting this.
