All of this isnt nessesary since when Portal and Half Life run on the same Souce Engine you just give yourself the portal gun and will make a 3rd slot where the Crowbar and Gravity Gun are. I tested this in PS3 though it was halarious when i was doing ravenholm. Just go find a door frame have zombie follow you then put a portal in front of you and one on top of a building

But since you are able to run hl2 and not portal, try to right click on portal in the steam game menu, then go to properties, and for "set launch options" type "safemode=1" this might solve your problem and when you get the game to run change some setting that mighta caused it

the npc's can't hurt u becuse in portal when u are hurt your hp restores because otherwise you would not make it throug the maps with turets i think that you must figure out how to get the portal gun to the actual hl2 game
