@thessaloniki355 Yeah, but the problem isn't about actual debt, it's about whether or not those countries have the ability to service that debt, in other words, how much cash and short term assets they have on their books and whether or not their GDP allows their (mainly tax) revenue to pay for it. Obviously Hong Kong, being much richer in terms of GDP per capita can pay for their debt, whilst Greece despite having so many people, cannot, and needs the help of the ECB.

By essence it is meant something like a 'form' not essence in Platonic terms.
Plato though things were imperfect representations of ideal forms (nothing is perfectly circular for example but circles exist) if you will and Aristotle thought the characteristics were actual properties of the objects. SLIGHT difference but 'essence' is a tad ambiguous :D

@thessaloniki355 Yeah, but the problem isn't about actual debt, it's about whether or not those countries have the ability to service that debt, in other words, how much cash and short term assets they have on their books and whether or not their GDP allows their (mainly tax) revenue to pay for it. Obviously Hong Kong, being much richer in terms of GDP per capita can pay for their debt, whilst Greece despite having so many people, cannot, and needs the help of the ECB.

Just to clarify one minor thing.
By essence it is meant something like a 'form' not essence in Platonic terms.
Plato though things were imperfect representations of ideal forms (nothing is perfectly circular for example but circles exist) if you will and Aristotle thought the characteristics were actual properties of the objects. SLIGHT difference but 'essence' is a tad ambiguous :D

You never see the Germans endorsing Hitler, do you (but not to compare Aristotle with Hitler). And plus, there's still a bunch of other great philosophers to choose from like Socrates, Zeno, Democritus, etc., so don't dispair, every country gets picked on. It's a part of life. :)
