So, all in all, I'm all for Square leaving FF7 the hell alone and stop marring it with all this cash-cow shit that makes the series look akin to the new Final Fantasy games, which is NOT okay.
Dirge of Cerberus was pretty bad, too. It had alright gameplay, but the story was forced and dull. I don't know anything else about the rest of the prequel/sequel crap, but as far as I can guess they're all the same.
Forced, underwhelming additions to an otherwise perfect game and story.
I don't mean to sound too 'fanboy' with this, but no other game I've ever played has really matched the convoluted, in-depth story Final Fantasy 7 had, and it's probably Square's best writing works.
He was basically at peace with himself and wasn't going to let anything else stand in his way of living his life as himself.
Then comes Advent Children and he makes some weird U-turn back to being a whiny, depressive character who thinks life sucks and who's hobbies include guilt tripping himself 24/7.
Advent Children as a whole was reallllly fucking bad. It had a bad story, treated the characters pretty badly and didn't do anything for the Final Fantasy 7 story.
What are you talking about? Cloud's character in Advent Children was horrible.
In the game, he was a legitimately confused man who was injected with both the cells of an alien creature and somehow nightmareishly fused with a part of his best friend by Hojo.
After literally putting himself back together in the Lifestream, Cloud discovers he wasn't the badass Soldier prodigy he thought he'd been- that was his friend, Zack. He was content with this, and moved foward with his life.
@Zer0SkiLL789 Advent Children pisses me off, because Barret looks like some hip young rapper. Where the fuck is his mohawk, faded tats and huge arms like in the original game's character art?
Give us the proper looking Barret, thanks. Not some flawless looking hippie with cornrows.
@Zer0SkiLL789 Too right. When I was growing up, I remember 7 - 9 had such cool character design. Ironically, that got worse as the graphics got better. Pretty graphics and it's like SquareEnix can't help themselves in making flawless looking supermodels. They forget that awesome graphics can make awesomely looking real people too.
Never again will we have some cool looking gruff badasses like Barret and Cid, lol.
Me too. I hate Advent Children. I'm going to go as far as saying I hate all Final Fantasy after 10. Why? Because with the awesome graphics, SquareEnix has forgotten they can make realism. Instead, they keep making the same 16-year-old supermodel looking people with absolutely no 'grit'. Boring.
Someone send them a memo that characters can be realistic, yet still cool. Such as Barret in the original game (not his pretty boy makeover for AC).
@IronRooRoo Yeah.. Final Fantasys have been going downhill after 10, but Advent Children was pretty entertaining "spin-off" movie in the end. Really loved to see old faces in the movie, at least in complete version, but still.. FF7 is better to be left alone without movies and new games about it. :3
@Kaboose666 Yeah. I don't have a problem with characters like Cloud and Tifa in Advent Children, they're pretty spot on. Really...it was great. My only gripe is good old Barret. He looks like Mr. T in the original, but not in AC. :D
Still, I'm glad they are doing the whole 'compilation of FF7' stuff. FF7 is my fav of all the final fantasy settings.

I love this soundtrack so much. Nobuo Uematsu is the reason I started writing music, I heard his music 14 years ago and haven't stopped writing since.
@Kazamitsu07 actually, rufus used a secret passage in the tower that led to his escape. also, he had a table covering the entrance to said passage so it wouldn't hit him as bad. rufus is a prime example that the ducking and covering works
@SDPaldora1 I'm pretty sure the "official" reason he survived a full on WEAPON blast is because he hid under his desk or something? I honestly can't recall exactly... but Rufus just won't fucking die.
Rufus survived because he was smart and ducked underneath the table to avoid some of the explosion, or was just lucky and happened to be blown under it after the first explosion. The first time I saw the cinematic (2003, before Advent Children was released), I was pretty damn sure he survived. The camera cut away a little too fast for a "Yeah, he died," and that's a classic movie trick. Plus, that table was always in the back of my mind.
Rufus just can't die. Face it. Accept it. When you first meet him, Barret says that no one has seen him bleed or cry. It stays that way. Rufus actually didn't have one scratch after this explosion if you watch Advent Children.
When it played this music as it showed the Junon cannon at Midgar hooked up to the mako reactors I was like... Holy shit Rufus... is that really necessary?
I've never played FF7 before (actually I did for a bit, then stopped for some reason), but hearing this music makes me want to start it again. There's just something about it...
@blackwingangel04 Which is bullshit. He was on the top floor of this huge building. He couldn't jump out and survive or just survive. You even see him look at the camera maybe 2 seconds before impact.
@Eval999 Only possible explanation I can think of (besides the entire thing just being a handy plot device) is that the turks, like in Advent Children, caught him in his fall from Shinra HQ with those rope things... I wouldn't put it past Shinra to have some secret escape plan... or... something. Either way, the FF7 story has become increasingly skewed with each development.
the new ff games are bad ey?
i blame america
prolly true anyway

@IronRooRoo Your right. If Squaresoft was still here and it wasn't SquarEnix, pretty much everything Final Fantasy would of been much better

The moment which completed Rufus reputation as a cold person who never cried.
Watching his death coming piece by piece at him as fireballs without twitching a muscle.
