  • 3:30, holy crap, we had that in our house!

  • camel toe at 1.38 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @largepizzas HA!

  • 7HT Record Bar selling CDs This was about the time they were starting to come out

  • yeah I remember places like Kmart selling out the last of their records in about 1991/2. By 1993 you couldn't get them anymore.

  • The Victorian Football League had their own car insurance company?! I can't believe it.

  • Haha! Apart from Barbeques Galore, not one business in this block would still be in operation today... Radio 7HT had their own shop!?

Btw, I might be wrong, but I think I saw Wendy Kennedy (with short hair) in that Devilmania ad, voiced be Rob Breen??? Also, the last ad sounded like it was voiced by former ABC & WIN journalist, Gary Magnussen... :O

  • Yeah I think it is Wendy Kennedy in the Devilmania ad. Certainly looks a lot like Wendy.

Not sure about the V.O. though. Could be Rob Breen.

The voice in the last commercial does sound a lot like Gary Magnussen. Would he have been able to provide a voiceover that young?

  • Well, I don't know how old he is, but I just checked an entry from last years' Walkley Magazine online & it said he's had various radio & television gigs in Hobart for "two decades," so maybe voicing ads was his first job...

  • IIRC, quite a few radio stations had retail outlets during the '80s so you could buy all their overpriced logo-covered merchandise. In Melbourne I think both 3XY and Triple M had retail stores.

  • Yes, indeed!

It looks like radio stations owning retail outlets were a tangible example of the immense market domination 'Top 40' music stations had in the '70s and '80s, making and breaking acts as they did...

It's funny that you mention 3XY and Triple M in the same sentence, considering that Triple M's predecessor, EON FM was the one that sentenced 3XY to a slow death after 1980 (lol).

Btw, 7HT had to become a racing & sport station after FM arrived too (7TAB, now Tote Radio). :)

  • Yeah it wouldn't work today. Just imagine. Ben Cousins, Alan Didak all on it. The insurance company would go broke. lol
