  • my favorite euph piece! going to play this for my exam next year probably!

  • i s good brand: Wurzbach for euphonium please someone answer me i never hear about that brand please somebody tell if is a good choise and if have good sound please tanks.

  • Steven Mead and David Childs. I personally like Mead more, but I've only heard Childs once. I can't judge for that reason. Also, they are both better than I ever will be. I have no room to judge because I can't do any better.

  • HEY HEY HEY!!! its music!! it doesn't matter whose better. Its all about the music baby. cant we just enjoy it with out being negative? When something sounds beautiful enjoy it. Because to as far as i know, without feeling or enjoyment in music isn't worth playing or listening to. so please everyone quit getting butt hurt and listen to the euph.

    POWER TO THE EUPH!!

  • Som muito lindo ...

    Steven voçe é demais.

  • British vibrato bugs me lol

  • i think that preference in tone is a matter of opinion. just because someone doesn't have a tone you like or are used to doesn't mean they "suck". Steven Mead is a world known performer and professional. Obviously if he wanted his tone to sound any different than the way it is now, he could have easily done it.

  • Woah..... I play the same horn as he does. thats pretty legit... idk.... i wish I could sound as beast as he does. And his recording of this song is AMAZING.... Steven Mead is my Idol. :D

  • @sxf0419

Its one of the most common eufoniums among serious players. Besson Prestige.

  • Non ci sn parole....Steven Mead è il miglior Euphonista al mondo.

  • is a "police band" the equivalent to a military band in the US?

  • lol this guy sucks..his pitch goes way off and his euphonium isn't even tuned properly. i can tune better than him and i'm in 10th grade lol. and he looks like the six flags guy lol.

  • @Kduceee you must be kidding... steven mead is one of the best euphoniumnists in the world... he is worldwide renowned! The problem is that this video has very poor quality

He has an amazing CD where he plays awesomely... listen and you'll see :)

    Bye :p

  • @Kduceee

Post a video of you doing better.

  • @Kduceee

more like kdouche^^^ Go suck on your moms tit again cause you apparently don't know anything about music. Steven Mead is like one of THE BEST euphonium players ever to walk this earth... who are you to judge?

  • @Kduceee Fuck you !!!!! He is the best, i've seen him and hear him and played with him, and HE IS THE BEST, you can't play eaven close to him you son of a b*****

  • @vellomaster lol david childs is better.David childs have a much better tone and run better than him.

  • @Kduceee People who brag about being better than other people are terrible musicians.. And YOU are not better than this guys if your still in highschool... And his tone is very excellent.. I don't whats going through your speakers.

  • Que hermoso sonido que tiene señor yo soy ejecutante y me emociona mucho verlo con una orquesta aca en argentina se usa en bandas militares ,lo saluda atentamente ANALIA

  • The worst harlequin interpretation ever.. bat intonation at 1.23, 2,58 and 4.55 :/ shame

  • Do you actually know you're talking about 'The Steven Mead' and about a low-quality video (no offense :p)..

  • you can't even tell what happens at 1:23 because the video is so bad.

  • That is absolutely beautiful!

    Thanks so kindly.

  • dennis vick steven mead

  • Yeah,i was drinking beer with Him too,in Trakai(Lithuania)

  • @Giako82 it's a besson prestige BE2052 because of the big bell

  • @Giako82 Yes Besson Prestige Euphonium

  • @Giako82 mead plays the 2052.

  • @Giako82

    no it's a BE2052

  • does anybody know what kind of euphonium he plays on?

  • yes you are :P i'm a euph player, but i'm playing tuba because only one tuba auditioned for our concert wind ensemble. and i offered. Next semester i'll be doing both. Doubling.

  • Phillip Sparke wrote a peice for my school band called True's Yard. School was Springwood High School, England. I play tuba and the third movement, Captain's apprentice has a tuba solo in it!

  • ive met him XD woooo

  • such a beatiful, and technical solo, my favorite solo from philip sparke.

  • Nono you all have it wrong. God created the Euphonium, then Steven Mead, and THEN the universe and the tuba.

  • I'm glad God got better and better as went along creating things ;-)

Seriously - the euphonium has a beautiful sound - but I'm besotted with the tuba!

  • Steven Mead is like the Chuck Norris of all euphonium players. It is commonly known that he can bench-press 500 lbs (226.79kg) with his lips alone. But seriously, this guy is astonishingly good.

  • LOL. From good and bad critics we had come to religion stuff. Someone should dissable the commenting or we will develope into world war III soon :D

  • Bravo~

  • Hands down THE best technical player of this or any previous generation. He's the Wayne Gretzky of euphonium players...the Michael Jordan, the Buddy Rich...he is just on a pedestal. And David Childs? Wellsir, he's the Sydney Crosby of euphonium players! Plus the lady-types are a little more into Childs than Mead...

  • However, Mead is a little more into the lady-types. Goes for everything that can bear children. Really cool guy though.

  • True...I've heard things from a friend who went to his summer camp a few years ago, but I shall say no more.

  • I should apologize for my last comment. After seeing it, the friend who told me about the camp felt quite embarrassed to have to tell me that what was told to me wasn't true, and that they hinted towards certain things because they wanted to sound intriguing. I again apologize, and hope that I haven't turned anyone away from Mr. Mead as a player or a person.

  • Agreed with Euphfellowship. The comment on my part, was a joke, and should be treated as such. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Mead this summer at ITEC 2008, and will say that he is a really fantastic person.

  • vc toca muito cara!!!

quiria muito ter umas aulas com vc

toco euphonium na banda de florida e pra mim chegar no seu niveu falta muito cara vc é d+

  • That's weird. I meant to reply to megalith5's comment but my statement is on top of all the other comments

  • This turns me on to a point of no return. Steve Mead is a master of his craft. He makes the Euphonium speak.

  • This is why GOD said on the 8th day "LET THERE BE EUPHONIUM"

  • I respectfully disagree. GOD is perfect and whatever he creates is perfect. Especially when it comes to the Euphonium

  • I argee with you matt, but god did create the Euphonium and Tuba ;)

  • that is true. Then God decided to put them together and form a tuba ensemble.

    The best musical ensemble ever!!!!!!!!

    Examples include:

    Tubafours

    Synphonia

    sotto voce

  • THANK YOU you know that the tuba is just a better version of the euphonium. you my friend make sense

  • 7 is the magic number my friend.

  • yea i agree with you.

  • but i dont believe that your tone will be as good as his eh? yes the video quality sucks big time.

  • oh its already a SLOWER vibrato, so in my opinion its better FOKHONGRUI eh

  • why are steven mead videos always such bad quality T-T

  • ive met him XD

  • I think his sound is a litte "cramped" ?

Listen to David Childs or any russian euphonium players - they are the best.

  • I agree with the "cramped" part, but I think Kevin Thompson, Adam Frey, and especially Brian Bowman are the best euph players.

  • What russian players? I don't know any

  • no, Mead is British, and the rest of them are American

  • if you want an uncramped sound hit up Demondrae Thurman

  • ive partied with him..... in texas!! :D

  • Really? Kickass! :P

  • Hook Em euphonium style

  • i was recently playing at the UK NW Area competitions. I was drunk and started talking to a lad that i used to play in a band with that is studying at RNCM.

I asked him whether the bloke that came over to talk to him was his grandad. The lad went pale and the bloke with him looked pretty pissed off.

He had just been telling me that his grandparents had come over to listen to him.

the bloke that i thought was his grandad, was his senior lecturer at RNCM, Steven Mead

  • @alextamuk if your talking about the tamuk master class, i got to play for him:D

  • I'm going to be taking lessons from Demondrae Thurman soon^_^

  • AHH DEMONDRAE! that guy is a trip ive hung out and played guitar hero and had a few drinks with him and sotto voce, that guy is hilarious especially after a few beers haha hes awesome

  • Stop comparing them people! They are all amazing players, and are at the musicianship level that just can not be compared. No doubt all of them are great players, Tropman, Bowman, Mead, Adam Frey. They just can't be compared

  • Yeah they are all great except mead (who is just good) I hate his extremely annoying fast vibrato. It is all just a matter of personal taste. The only thing I like about him is his technical side.

  • I have seen your comments. Do you have anything have something against Mr.Mead?

  • I agree with Matonizz on this one... without a doubt, just relax... let them ALL inspire you, instead of bickering about who is the best, go and practice... I'm sure they didn't get this good just to say they are they best... Its the passion they had for their craft.

  • Come on people, aren't you bored from comparing which one is better? Steven Mead, David Childs, Brian Bowman, all of them are the best, you can't compare them as they are all unique. Just relax and enjoy the music.

  • David Childs memorizes his music......

  • David Childs only performs 5 pieces of music. Mead has a rep. of over 400 solos. He doesn't memorize all of his music because he plays so many different pieces on many different occasions. And I have seen him play 30 min. long pieces without music.

  • thats very true, Childs is awesome don't get me wrong, but Childs, Tropman, mead, etc. they all are amazing..

  • He used to be my favorite player - now David Childs is! I have Harlequin, but I've never really played it - I ordered it because I like it, but then after practicing it a few times I don't like getting into the high range until it's very easy for me, so I haven't been playing it (I have a lot more stuff to practice, including Brandt Etude #14 (it's a Trumpet etude from Vassily Brandt's Orchestral Etudes for Trumpet)

  • WOW, he's good. Probably as good as or better than David Childs, but i don't prefer one to the other. Still, a beautiful performance.

  • he's considered the best soloist and clinician on the euphonium.

  • actually, Brian Bowman is. Although Steven Mead is amazing

  • i hear bowman is an asshole, but i dunno ive never met him my friends have told me when hes judged them and stuff, he also plays the carnival of venice with one finger

  • bowman is an asshole, i live like 10 minutes from where he teaches, UNT(UNiversity of North Texas), and I have met him. Hes an amazing player, but cant teach, cuz he expects everyone to be as good as him. but he doesnt play carnival of venice with one finger

  • Yes, i can easily believe that. Hes just so goooooood.

  • Steven Mead is the greatest euphonium pioneer of our time, and we should all feel lucky to live in his era. I'm proud to be a Besson artist alongside of Steven. He's truly a top notch professional on and off of the concert stage, and has done so much for me and my career. There are many great players out there, yes, but very few have the complete package that Steven possesses. It's truly a joy to hear him perform each and every time I have the opportunity.

  • he is amazing!!!

and a nice person aswell i went to a workshop with him last year!!

  • aww all shutup, hes the best in the world ;D

  • My Name is Steve Mead. That doesn't sound like me at all..

  • I'm sorry

  • My name si Simon P. This piece is fantastic...the soloist as well...sound has a little slovenian influence...

    just my opinion!

  • I performed Harlequin for a week ago =D

One of the best Euph song ever :)

  • What's the name of the orchestra he's playing with?

  • "Banda Musicale della Polizia di Stato Italiana"

    translation

"Police Musical Band of Italian State"

  • my dad got me one of his music book and dude is incredible!!!!!!

  • well i would say his sound is awesome...remember this is youtube not a live performance!

  • he has a great tone its the camra that might give some weird feed back.

  • Matt Tropman and Tormod Flaten have a better sound than him in my opinion.

  • It is a very good sound, it just may be different than what you are used to. Plus there is a bad quality of video, so it makes it sound like has a little bit of double buzzing going on, but its not him, its the bad quality of the video.

  • the vid definitely takes away from the quality of the sound, I have the honor of actually taking lessons from Matt Tropman. Mead is probably the best euph player right now.

  • Brian Bowman is another awesome euph player right now. But they really can not be compared. Both are amazing players. But dont leave out Bowman

  • it's not really a "bad sound", it's a british sound used in brass bands there, it's not bad, it's just different from the american tone of brian bowman and david childs full sound

  • Just for the record though... Childs is Welsh... not American.

  • I know. But he doesn't sound like Steven Mead. And I didn't want to say a "Welsh sound"

  • it's KIND OF like comparing Joseph Allesi and Christian Lindberg, Allesi has that golden tone, Lindberg doesn't have the same exact fullness of Allesi's sound but just because it isn't the same it isn't a bad sound and it doesn't stop him from being just as good as Allesi, everything goes back on how you are taught and sometimes where you live (America and Europe)

  • in my opinion Brian Bowman is light years ahead of Steven mead on sound

  • Great!!:)

  • wow, i hope i sound like that som day

  • Steve truly is a modern-day musical genious. We're lucky to have him as a euphonium player!

  • Steven Mead has absolutely the best euphonium sound in the world.

  • This piece can be found on his "Euphonium Virtuoso" CD.

  • Wow - thank you for putting this up. This is just marvelous. Videos like this are why I like YouTube so much. Steven Mead is just great.

  • Harlequin

  • what is the title of this song?

  • the title is Harlequin and its written by Phillip Sparke

  • well steven mead did it afain. he played like legend. this man is doing so much for the euphonium. i swaer his legacy will last forever.

  • Sincere appreciation for Steven Mead.

  • HI remember me from trakai?

I had listen to you playing the carnival, BRAVO:)

  • Hi,nice what you found me.How are you doing?
