Saw it last night for the first time. Fascinating, this is what Hell would truly be to me. A World devoid of feelings. No pain, no pleasure, no tapping into one's senses and being aroused and moved. These people were not alive they were existing. Great Movie.

I agree that this trailer sells the movie short. However, I find revenge films to be one of the most classic and satisfying of movie genres. A character is wronged, usually in a bloody and cruel manner and wreaks vengeance upon his tormentors. A universal staple of storytelling. Of course Equilibrium isn't one of those films.

Being derivative and unoriginal is fine, what movie isn't to some extent? But at least have a new angle, a new way of looking at it. The movie was interesting and disturbing at times, especially if you're unfamiliar with all of the ideas it pilfered. But it was predictable and loaded with inconsistencies. That's just sloppy. I just think it had a great foundation and should have been alot better.
I think why this movie gets such mixed opinions is that it is really good but it should have been alot better. The set of points in Equilibrium were shoved down your throat. Suppressed emotions, anti-religion, monitoring people, sentient beings' relationship with emotion, "the father" controlling the people, what makes us human, Preston slowly waking up. Where have we seen this before? It's was too heavy handed. And the fight scenes were funny. I laughed at some of it.

kind of misrepresented his motives. He just dropped his medicine one day and adopted a puppy. The state THEN betrays him by trying to kill his puppy. So he kills the state.
@t100base Of course, I'm not serious about the puppy killing being the reason. But he didn't rebel because they killed his wife, like the trailer implies. He just accidentally dropped his prozium, thereby loosing both his source of stability as well as the state's control over him. It's freedom he's now after, not necessarily revenge--well, except for the last scene, when he learns of the totality of the state's facade. But that's the end of the movie.
@RealityResurge both movies are about controlling an entire population and eliminating those that oppose it to maintain "order". and they both contain ridiculous action sequences that are physically impossible

I just watched this movie and I fucking love it, its so good, but this trailer gives a total inadequate impression on what the plot of the movie is, and practically spoils everything.
Both John Preston and Guy Montag go through a transformation during the story and they switch sides, after realizing the truth. If any of you like Equilibrium and have not read Fahrenheit 451, I strongly encourage you to do so. If Fahrenheit 451 was turned into a movie, I could very well surpass Equilibrium.
@authorjg ummm... there is a movie made from fahrenheit 451?! it's by francois truffaut, a french director. it's from '66 so not really contemporary but i highly recommend it. shouldn't be too difficult to get a version with subtitles.

not many people have seen this movie and it isnt widely known about but it is definetely one of the best films ive ever seen

kind of misrepresented his motives. He just dropped his medicine one day and adopted a puppy. The state THEN betrays him by trying to kill his puppy. So he kills the state.
Moral: don't try to kill Christian Bale's puppy!

@t100base Of course, I'm not serious about the puppy killing being the reason. But he didn't rebel because they killed his wife, like the trailer implies. He just accidentally dropped his prozium, thereby loosing both his source of stability as well as the state's control over him. It's freedom he's now after, not necessarily revenge--well, except for the last scene, when he learns of the totality of the state's facade. But that's the end of the movie.
Either way, I still wouldn't kill his pup

@RealityResurge both movies are about controlling an entire population and eliminating those that oppose it to maintain "order". and they both contain ridiculous action sequences that are physically impossible

Scary.. that the story behind the movie is excactly what the future of our lives is going to be
Really hope.. but doubt it that there's going to be a Christian Bale who will owerthrow the corrupt system wich we will demand ourselves just about in 20-50yrs
This movie is so very under-rated and wasnt a success couse people who want and plan this kind of future dont want u to know that.. bet anyone who watches this doesnt want to live in a future like that.. Peace<3

I just watched this movie and I fucking love it, its so good, but this trailer gives a total inadequate impression on what the plot of the movie is, and practically spoils everything.

Both John Preston and Guy Montag go through a transformation during the story and they switch sides, after realizing the truth. If any of you like Equilibrium and have not read Fahrenheit 451, I strongly encourage you to do so. If Fahrenheit 451 was turned into a movie, I could very well surpass Equilibrium.

@authorjg ummm... there is a movie made from fahrenheit 451?! it's by francois truffaut, a french director. it's from '66 so not really contemporary but i highly recommend it. shouldn't be too difficult to get a version with subtitles.
