There are so many plugins that do this better and with more flexibilty with ability to use live with a keyboard. I'm failing to see the advantage of this at all? anyone fill me in as to why i would use this over all the others?
The effect itself isn't anything new... there's been Max patches that do this (albeit, not nearly as graphically friendly) for at least 10 years. What's exciting is the ability to use the creative power of Max directly within Live.
The one and only thing i really dont like in Live, is the fucking-fucked-up-fuckers-fuck MIDI and automation overwriting in arrange view...no overdubbing is possible, that sucks very hard...nearly every other seq has this as an BASIC, Logic does for example...if you want to add some notes to a recorded midi clip in the arrange, by using the session-record, it overwrites your midi clip in the arrange...that sucks so hard...
@GregorEicher ok. well you seem a lot calmer now. you should know that anything BASIC and obvious, you can certainly do in live. this particular request is easy: in arrange view. load a midi clip. loop it. you can press the 'punch in' button and the loop bracket button. arm the track. set it to record. let it rip. if the OVR button is yellow, its going to write over the notes. if its not on, it will go over and over allowing you to add DIFFERENT notes. olsmichael@gmail.com 4more
Its a special programing environment for creating instruments / effects. It probably comes with some pre-set effects already implemented like this buffer shuffler.
Yeah, it might have an effect if a good artist does something good out of it otherwise its just another level of complexity that dampers inspiration, action and soul. I am yet still to listen to something as good as 30 or 40 year old Kraftwerk songs done with analog stuff. Dont get me wrong, I love Ableton Live, but I'm always fidling with new stuff and I became a miserable gearhead :) I miss my acustic guitar :D cheers!
I sooooo agree to what you've written. I have extensively worked with Cubase 5 and logic 9 and for some reason these manufacturers feel that ONLY rocket scientists need work on their DAWs and not musicians. Creativity gets soo muted and stifled with trying to figure out all there is in these super-confusing user unfriendly softwares. The best new discovery for me has been Propellerhead record. What a breath of fresh air with its typical Props style intuitiveness. Give it a try with your acoustic
everything has a learning curve man, live and max for live is intended for musicians too. i think if you want to make decent electronic music you have to know audio engineering and synthesis.
now, another thing is that Live or Max is not typical.
if you look a bit further youll find Csound or Supercollider and id agree to some degree those programming languages are a bit hard
with the tools live provides you spend less time on editing with better and more complicated results than hours on cubase

Buffer shuffler is exactly what I don't like.
A plugin wich compose for you.
But I'm still a user of Live !
Great sound, best midi editor, best sampler, ...everything !!!
even if I don't like slicing in drum rack, and even if I think Cubase lead in audio edit, this daw is the very BEST.
Plus, when you're register you have a lot of things
thanks for your work, dudes

Buffer shuffler does not compose music. It is merely one in the myriads of tools that exist to aid in the composition of music.
sommersound 2 years ago
I agree 50 per cent.
I looks do a lot itself, but I don't have live 8 and Max, i maybe mistaken.
And I'm a reaktor user. And I spend so many time to understand all, that i can't restart another complex program like max.
Plus, reaktor give emulation of nord rack, re201, thousands synth and fx.... I'm totally fan. ;D

i think the developers where thinking more of terms of playing live than composing
it would be kinda hard to come up with variations of anything without it
TheDadsr 2 years ago
I agree.
And if people like me you don't like "Buffer shuffler", you can use something else :D
You have everything in this program !

I agree. Good fun and toys for the boys but underneath it you still need a good piece of music.
