  • "Glorification of the Chosen Victim" (7:43-end) is just so intense and amazing. I love the crazy piccolo rips and the rhythms and everything. This is a great performance of it. Plus the timpani parts seem really fun.

  • how are there 3 empty seats in the first row??? ID GLADLY TAKE THEM

  • you know a piece of music's awesome when you need 2 contrabassoons to play it

  • 6:27 If you look at his face for a long time looks like he'll start laughing

  • 0:12 Once there was an ambulance here in front of the house and mimicked exactly this pace

  • Something sounds weird with the big drum. Or is it just my sound system?

  • @kingjezza He changes mallets & dampens, that might be why it sounds odd.

  • The world is lucky to have this video available. Thanks for posting.

  • Bah, to everyone, this came before star wars!

So enough with the comments 'This sounds like star wars!'

The Rite of Spring came long before Star Wars...

  • @TheLastMyztery Ohh please. >_>

  • @TheLastMyztery Well it does sound like a piece of music from Star Wars. It doesn't matter the order they came, they are similar and so one reminds people of the other. That's how brains work.

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS RECORDING!!!!!

  • SEARCH: STAR WARS DUNE SEA music.

  • It does sound like Star wars!

  • @DrewR2010 No, star wars sounds like this.

  • Woah that sounds like Star Wars IV

  • MR. STRAVINSKY WOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THIS WHOLE SYMPHONY AND IT'S CONDUCTOR! :D

  • Anybody looking for the whole Salonen version, here it is :D

    /watch?v=Gi16suM21jQ&feature=related

  • By far the best recording of this work that I have ever heard. Every section of the orchestra can be heard so clearly. Fantastic!!

  • 2:34 haha look at the reflection off of the trumpet.

  • Star Wars IV anyone?

  • 2:51 amazing picture

  • Here comes the T-Rex!

  • @OdonataKraft

haha, i was thinking the same

  • @OdonataKraft lol Fantasia

  • This is well EPIC!!!

  • MTT is really great, but i wish he would get down and dirty like Salonen

  • the beginning bit is so eerie

  • @7:40 i love love love this part :)

  • @liketammysaids the best part!!!

  • @ezev8logos my face expression was like O_O lol

  • what's with 2:34 to 3:14?

  • F# is 1/2 2 in left hand, 1, 2, and C key in right hand and the first/third octave key (if you have one. I have one but i still only use the first due to habit)

G is 1/2 and 2 in left hand, 1 and C key in right hand + 8va (same as F# but w/o the 2nd finger in right hand)

G# is just 1/2 and 8va in left hand

and finally A is just the 8va key. You can easily find a fingering chart with these notes on them (please do to double check me).

Again, 3rd 8va is better but most people don't have one.

  • @mikeppal Really? I like the way this is filmed. I'm not a classical music fan really. But from time to time I've heard classical that I liked and I'd always ask my friend "Who is this?" and he'd say Stravinsky. Apparently Stravinsky moves me like nothing else. I have this on in the background, with the most picturesque scenery out the window this morning and I swear my blood pressure has dropped. I feel at peace.

  • I really wanna know where those two oboe players learned to hold the instrument THAT close to their bodies. Not only would it be uncomfortable, it would be very difficult to get a good air stream because of the angle of the reed. I could never do it.

  • @buzzy918 agreed, though they're pretty incredible. There's F, F#, Gs all over the part.

  • @Jvenvell I do agree with you there. Do you mean the ones above the staff or on the staff?

  • @TheBossCoder above the stave. Once you get to C# above the stave on the oboe you have to play harmonics so it becomes increasingly difficult. A very good oboe play can get A's but i struggle with G's myself so i admire these guys.

  • @Jvenvell I can get to an A if i start on a G and work my way up. Granted, I have to stick the entire reed in my mouth up to the string, but I can do it. I recently had to play the Persichetti Symphony for Band, and there was a good amount of notes above C in there and it was high but fun to play :)

  • @TheBossCoder wow! what figuring do you use? I worked out G by playing F# ( holes 1,2, 3 and 4 plus thumb and back 8ve key) without the top (B key) figure but thats as far as i got

  • @Jvenvell The fingerings I provided are considered the "standard" fingerings, but really you can just get harmonics on most notes. For example, if you finger a low B and then press the octave, it produces an F# at the top of the staff. Most harmonics come in 5th's so I bet you could figure out a way to finger 1st finger B and squeak out an F# :)

  • Doesn't this sound like the music in the desert on Tatooine in Star Wars?

  • @eliades710 Yes, but the other way around. I don't think John Williams would deny that his music is highly derivative.

  • @handsomechuck1 More like stolen, lol...

  • @eliades710 More like, doesn't the music in the desert on Tatooine in Star Wars sound like this?

John Williams was actually a little notorious for stealing well known themes.. for a lot of his film scores (Mars from The Planets, etc.)

  • The crane shots are telling you that this is an organized telecast and it also says to me that they know what they're doing(the director and staff). This gives me the shots of where the action is with the composition, what they composer is doing with his music.I like that effect as I listen to the music .It bring more to just listening to the music.I see where the composer is with this thoughts.P.S.I see what the conductor is doing also.

  • 2:11 thats one big trumpet.

  • Dude, at 1:56! That viola is crazy awesome! That guy's got style.

  • @aberinato the viola looks like a pumpkin

  • i remember when i played this that the violin part was SMALLER than my viola part! :) woo hoo! :)

  • What an awesome orchestra, especially the horns. No descants or triple horns, just high quality players on simple geyer wraps! love it

  • man i wish i was the conductor, he gets to hear this contageous music right up-front row seat. its not fair.

  • Oh how I love this movement. It's so morbid sounding but so brillant. Totally intense sounding.

  • @mikeppal Yeah they don't add much do they? :D

  • Michael Tilson doesn't have the same energy as Salonen.

  • @kwark1223 This brings to mind something one of my past conductors said to the orchestra, "You're the ones doing all the work, I'm just up here communing with the spirits." MTT is a much more serene maestro and, personally, a conductor who makes a big performance out of his post is a distraction.

  • dude you lost me on the brass messing up at 8:51. how so tiger?

  • @tzhuff I didn't hear it but whatever.

  • Maybe not the crane but the tilts. Also when they change shots so quickly.

  • @HectorJW2007

I kinda think it's cool, but whatev.

  • @HectorJW2007 idk i kind of like it! like it almost fits the piece you know?

    LOVE STRAVINSKY

  • at 8:51 the brass is messing up...

  • @AIPThePharaoh Dude thats the way that its supposed to sound. The way the Stravinsky wrote the chords and notes in the peice they are supposed to clash and sound really earsplitting.

  • @sfrenchhorn07 Yeah, I totally agree! This is awesome!

  • @whatevernice345 Kind of funny to think that for years after the premier of this piece there were still heated debates about wether it would ever enter the orchestral literature. I guess time has a way of proveing or disproveing most things lol.
