This movie left me speechless. I agree with Kendra's sentiments, in a general way. Society has a need to punish, and sometimes it punishes indiscriminately. Hannah fell thru the cracks of the judicial system becuz the onr person who knew the truth remained silent. The Torah proclaims, "He who remains silent to injustice, is an accomplice." The real villian here is Michael Berg who remained silent becuz of guilt, shame and apathy for a fellow human being.

I liked this movie, it's one of those that makes you take a second and think. Reminds me how primitive we are. we've done tests showing that people are capable of surprising evil when they are told to do something by a superior. All in a days work. It reminds me that even the most vicious people in the world are still only human, and all have people out there that love them. The Reader is a great movie. Of course, Hannah is a pedophile, but that is probably the least of her offenses. This isn't a morality tale. It is of the human condition where no act is all bad or all good. In some ways, Michael benefited from his relationship with Hannah, and was also damaged. It's about the secrets people hide, and the behavior which results from it and the journey of one's life.
