  • Loved this game. Hornets were cool to fly, and Rapier's are better. Raptors ever okay, and Scimitars were old clunkers. There were many story branches depending on your successful or lack of during missions. I think I played them all through.

  • I'm amazed that this game STILL holds up so well!

    PORT 220 IRQ 5 DMA 1

  • I played this game like crazy when I was 10/11 years old, still have the discs and huge strategy guide...good times!

  • Galaxy on fire 2 is pretty dam good. (iPod Touch/iPhone only)

  • hey any1 know the name of a spacheship game it aint online its good pretty good graphics u fly a spaceship around planets to defend them against enemies and u can build structures on planets plz reply

  • got this first for my amiga ggreat but this game and elite2 got me into pc's.

  • i love the music in these games. it brings you back

  • Not meant as criticism on this game as I do like the looks of the original Wing Commander as well, but I really would like to see this game being remade in the style of Wing Commander Standoff or preferably with the graphics of Wing Commander Pioneer (look on CIC for both) with all the ingame graphics, ship scenes, character interaction scenes, and 'meanwhile' scenes in 3D.

Also please put in more capships and fighters types as well as torpedoes.

  • Damn those Kilrathi!

  • scimitar is the oldest fighter ship in the fleet

  • i remember i would always flee really far away from a dogfight - then turn around and shoot at the ships as they chased me - that was the only way i could kill them - i was only 8 at the time

  • I loved this game. I could never destroy the Kilrathi station in the final mission without losing my wingman : / so I settled for failing that one.

The thing I remember not liking about the game was that aiming was coarse, shifting a couple / few pixels at a time. That made it hard to target Dralthis' engines because at a 90-degree angle they were very thin.

  • nice callsign.

  • I remember this game =D

Was flippin through a stack of old PC games I found and couldn't remember what this was XD

  • hay when i got this version of the game i couldn't get it to slow down. it just went so fast i couldn't see anything.

  • LOL Driving a ship with one hand. ONly Wing COmmander

  • This game just blew me away. Read the handbook (yeah, games came with handbooks back then) under the bench at school and couldn't wait to come home to my amiga again ...

  • @palegrey ahah handbooks in the 90s were the first thing I did with any game on the car ride home from either a store where I bought it or a blockbuster / rogers where I rented it... unfortunately they seem to be degraded to purely informational and mostly black and white to save on cost nowaday :(

  • The into music sounds a bit like the theme from Star Trek The Next Generation.

  • Oh how I loved this game.

  • I always loved the Scimitar - far better than the Hornet but not quite as good as the Ferret in WC 2. Mass Drivers were awesome, who needs an overpowered Sabre? :)

  • is this the sega version? because I have the snes version and snes version's music and sound kicks this versions ass.

  • Thanks for posting this. I bought my 1st pc just for this game and had forgotten the orchestra conductor tapping his baton... damn I'm old...

  • Had anyone try shooting down the Tiger's Claw?

  • Best game ever

  • Yeah. I still have a DOS 6.22 box setup with WC1 on it.

Killerratte, what software tool did you use to record the gameplay with?

  • These are definately Adlib-sounds..

  • I'd say either PC or SNES, but not Amiga

  • PC. Only PC on those years had that poor sound effects. SNES, Amiga and other platforms had it much better.

  • Thats right, I had the snez version and the music, while being the same compositions, is much nicer than the pc version.

God I must have looked real pale when I finally left my bedroom after playing this for about a month, solid, 7 days a week, classic game!

  • Though making Jalthi fighters into green Salthis were annoying.

  • I don't know from which platform this version is, but music sounds like midi. Amiga version have much better quality of music.

  • This is the PC version and it's not MIDI which sounds alot better...this is the Adlib or Soundblaster music

The game sounds better on the Amiga but the PC version has Roland MT32 midi music which is superior

  • Exactly. You got sampled sounds and all you needed to run the game was 512K (although you probably should have at least a full meg to make it smoother).

  • Yo. You can actually fly with a mouse?

  • Yup

  • My neighbors played the game ONLY with a mouse.

  • Do people ever bother reading the description.

  • @Killerratte no not really

then again its a "description"for the video, not a place for random facts to be displayed

  • I know, but today inspite Dos box, the game looks realy bad. Especially the ships...

  • yeah, the cheesy simulated 3D graphics are hideous by todays standards, but i still find the simplicity of the game play fun. version 2 graphics are much better IMO.

my favorite wing commander is version 3.

  • I actually like the blocky, pixely graphics. :3

  • Great to see this after all these years! I feel like a grandfather :-)

A long time ago, in a wing commander - galaxy, far far away...

  • I was dying to play this game at the time but was newer given to do so. Good to see it now LOL

  • You can download the game free. just google it! ;) you need dosbox to play the game
