This guy prolly didnt wanna take apart the 01 cobra engine to forge the internals or pay for a new block so he put a vortech on it so he doesnt blow it to pieces in my opinion this is a pretty nice cobra. This is far from a fake cobra

I also have a 2001 which I plan on supercharging the stock pistons and rods can only hold 9 pounds of a kennebell since the bottom end is already forged steel Im gonna change out my rods and pistons and hope to make 21 psi safely not to mention im already gonna have close to 450 at the rear naturally aspirated but this thing is sweet sounds pretty good

99-01 cobras had a 4.6l dohc 320hp. 03-04 cobra came with a supercharged 4.6l dohc 390hp right? thanks

you dont have rods. the 4.6 is a overhead cam which i believe has hydrolic lifters. but yea im pretty sure they are hydrolic and not mecanical. i dont think they have to be changed to s/c it. anyways look it up on forums and stuff, its always good to research before you do anything, i spent two weeks researching how to pulley my 03 cobra correctly before ever ordering parts, that way i get what i need the first time and i dont have to get different stuff cuz it doesnt work or whatever. good luck

you dont have rods? what are you talking about all cars have rods. and youre wrong 4.6 motors dont have lifter hence the they have overhead cams. either SOHC or DOHC

your right they dont have lifters but they do not have rods, the cams directly operate the valves, no rods, no lifters. that is if im correct which i think i am. ask an engine builder.

thehowl666, you moron he's talking about PUSH rods NOT CONNECTING rods. Anyways, usually DOHC motors have LMAs, Rockers, Mechanical or Hydro lifters. Ford in the past have used Hydro lifters on their DOHC motors.

Fuel and crank are the biggest issues. Don't scrimp on the racing crank or the upgraded injectors. Other than those items, my engine has been bullet proof.

crank shouldnt be your problem. since its manual you have the 8-bolt forged crank. its thre same one used in all 96-98, 99, 03-04Cobras/mach 1's. fuel is a must though :)

@yukonjacque Actually, the crank is good to over 850, I've been told. The rods and pistons are what won't hold up past 450. CP pistons and Manley Pro I-Beam rods in my shortblock. Problem solved! :)
