There are reinforcements along the frame rails as well as under the fenders. The roll bar helps as well. We've built a race car with a similar engine, and that one is caged and seam-welded.
How did you stiffen the chassis so you don't turn it into a pretzel when you hammer the throttle? I have thought about doing a similar conversion on an S2000
@Bakeneko64 Mazda didn't put much power in the car for cost reasons, and because they had the RX7 for that. It wasn't because the handling was poor.
People have been proving for years that the chassis can handle quite a bit more power. We've raced these things in autocrosses, on the track and in the Targa Newfoundland - and the chassis can definitely handle it.
you can get a brand new GM Performance Parts LS1 350hp crate motor for $5000 minus ecu and wiring. the LS376 (ls3) hot cam which is 480hp is another $1500. hopefully bout to be doin a 240sx with one of these.
How much does a complete swap like this cost typically if you have it done at your shop? Also how much is it on average for all of the parts to do it yourself (so price of everything minus labor)?
@imreloadin2 all i can tell you is that you can go to their site and "build a car" 100% free and as for parts to do it your self i really hope your good at fabrication tons of custom parts
@imreloadin2 All the prices are on our site. Generally speaking, it's about $35,000 to have one built for you. If you do it yourself (which doesn't require ANY custom parts, we can provide everything), you'll want to budget somewhere between $15-$25,000 depending on what specification you choose and if you use new or used GM parts.
@Mrgearhed The wheels are ASA AR1 in a 16" size. They're not the lightest set out there but the car owner likes them. BBS makes a wheel that looks almost identical and is 1.5 lbs lighter - but costs more than 5 times as much.
@LivinInFuture Definitely tested! It's about 52.5% on the front wheels, and the cars still handle really well. On our local racetrack - a .9 mile kart track with a dozen corners - the V8 cars are significantly faster than the four-cylinder models. Given how tight that track is, it's a handling course instead of a sheer power course.
@caseman86 it depends on the condition of the engine as well as the mileage, but you can pick up a reasonable LS1 for between 4500-6000 and an LS3 for 5500-7500.
@sealsponge We like the Hard Dogs, we've dealt with them for years. I like the fit better than most Autopowers - and for this customer, there's no Autopower equivalent to the Deuce so it wasn't even an option.
@sealsponge Because the customer wanted the look of a double-hump bar. It was the his choice. When we build yours, we'll put in whatever kind of rollbar you want. But we won't put a style bar in for you.
@sealsponge That's why the car is fitted with a Hard Dog Deuce rollbar, which has rear bracing and is solidly mounted to six points on the chassis. No style bar here.
@MyOpinionMatterss Well....Okay, Im not sure about your sense of logic.. But, im pretty sure that IF it's a man that owns this car he is playing atleast both ways...But i tend to stick to that he's gay...So, that would mean that a heterosexual man would ''Embarrass!?'' himself driving this car. Now. Im looking forward for your comeback ;PP
@zbarneyz It's ok, I should have been more descriptive. People who think that Miata's are chick or gay cars generally know little about real racing. Sexual orientation really has nothing to do with car choice. Elton John has owned Ferraris and Aston Martins. Are those gay cars? I HIGHLY doubt any "chick" would spend the money to drop a LS3 in a Miata unless she is really into racing in which case that's my kinda chick!
@zbarneyz Anyway, this LS3 miata was made to embarass any "hater" like you who thinks exactly the way you think. How would you feel driving your brand new Camaro SS or Shelby Mustang and get smoked by a Miata? That is exactly how we want you to feel.
@zbarneyz OK haha, I see now you were messing with me. :) I was a little drunk last night when i read that hahaha. Either way 430 hp in a 2500lb car would be a fun ride!
It's a 1996 chassis. The car has been lowered - it's on Flyin' Miata's Stage 2 suspension kit with FM springs and Illuminas. The customer wanted subtle, so he got subtle.
@XxUnknownxX8 I don't think any of our customers have tried a lot of snow driving. Of course, you don't NEED to run full power at every opportunity, so I'd say that with a good set of tires it should be no harder to drive than any high-power car. Just behave yourself!
@XxUnknownxX8 You can price out a build on our website - they start at around $34,000, and that gets you an all-new drivetrain with 480 hp. Insurance is between you and your insurance company, I'd recommend an agreed value policy.
Now THAT is one HELL of a sleeper!!

I've never driven a Miata, but they look kinda slow at autocrosses. Driving this must be one hell of a ride.

dual exhaust will look better hehehehe but it will add weight i guess!
anyway this car is a beast, light weight car with a big v8 with 480hp is seriously fast...
i bet that it's way faster than a stock c6 zo6

doesn't that just destroy the handling on that car? I mean mazda made it underpowered for a reason.
