seriously even if you dont like the guy show some basic respect for an elder...all the bullshit comments just shows how ur parents brought u up....a serious lack of basic manners...how would u like it if someone says whatever u have commented about mr lky to ur own grandparents...
LKY's experienced more than I have (or would ever want to), which I envy him for. He turned a colonial backwater with a strategic location into one of the richest, most sophisticated and cosmopolitan societies in the world. This man is one of my role models since I was a teenager.
@MrDeezi Were we watching the same interview? That was a highly ignorant reply by Rose, who wants to slap his narrow U.S. ideologies on Mr. Lee, who thoroughly understands the global picture.
Point is, each nation should think for itself based on its own unique circumstances. What works for the U.S., should stay in the U.S. Not every nation is wealthy, geographically isolated, and came out of a military win at WWII.
I can't believe people are insulting Charlie Rose. This guy has been doing this forever and has interviewed all of the major world leaders, social activists, and entertainers. He hosts the best interview show in the states. I had to comment because I was shocked to see so many comments about 'finger pointing' of all things. Furthermore, it did not seem like Mr. Lee Kuan Yew was very offended.
@lambitron3000 People here find Rose bigoted. He is interviewing a man who has accomplished the near-impossible, and should be asking him for insights. But he seems to care only about getting Mr. Lee to admit that U.S. ideologies are better than Singapore's, China's and practically everyone else's.
Lee is not a stateman. His political stance has done the following in Singapore:
1. Lee owns a PRIVATE company called the "Singapore Government Investment Corporation" which uses PUBLIC taxpayers money. No accountability to parliament, no questions allowed. Where do the profits go?
2. Lee made his son the Prime Minister.
3. This same son is also Minister for Finance, who in turn gives daddy Sing$100b to play with in private company (see point 1)
@bremneshatten The 2 Singapore companies that invest tax payers' money (Temasek Holding and GIC) both do so for the Singaporean people. Singapore does not have the demographics of Australia, or the USA, or any other country, and needs to be run like a conglomerate. Apply any other political / economic system and Singapore will fail, because we're a small island. Look at the results Lee Kuan Yew has delivered. I don't care that his son is the PM as long as he's as competent as his father.
agree with Renez100 & vincikwan. Charlie feels more threatened when Mr Lee corrects his comments hehehehe. Salute to Mr Lee. God Bless him during his wife's funeral. RIP Mrs Lee
Lee Kuan Yew should be the standard benchmark world leaders aspire to. Here in Australia, we've got 2 donkeys vying the top spot & "heehawwing" the same old crap.
this charlie guy is a terrible interviewer...did he not realize that he's talking to one most respectable one of a country ,,,..his questionaing tone ..his gesture ....are just not right.
@shoexy if you are mr lee will you govern your own homeland and let it prosper or help govern a foreign just for fame and power. Well true he would make a good president of US, good prime minister of britian but if ur in a foreign country MAKING DECISIONS will be have the same driving force? same attitude? as in your own homeland?

This interviewer is very rude. I don't like his body language and tone of voice, which is rude in both European and Asian culture.
