  • do you need the contact cement?

  • thank you

  • i use this sword as my primary...and i have a backup if it fails...PORTAL GUN

  • CONAN SONG AT THE BEGINNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • make me sad seeing that much blue fome being wasted Q>Q

  • What is the difference between a "level 1" sword and a "level 2" sword?

  • whats the difference well it looks different but what else does it do more damage ?

  • @I8yoorcuki I guess it looks better and it'll last longer.

  • it looks like a baseball bat... LOL!

  • How is the balance with these? From what i see, the balance is pretty front heavy.

  • @xxmasterchiefofahlo a lot of swords are balanced front heavy and honestly they won't swing like a real sword no matter what you do. but if you do want to change the balance point I've used cut up lead diving weights (you could use fishing weights) in the pommel to weight a claymore I made a long...long time ago.

  • @hathegkla Hey thanks for the heads up. I just made a noodle blade and to be honest the thing isn't heavy at all, so balance is really not that much of a problem. Still, good to know that no matter what, it's not going to swing like a real sword.

  • Time for slayin

  • you are awesome

  • It doesnot look like a sword it looks like a wierd hammer

  • honestly i dont even see a "blade" i just see to many layers of foam

  • what do people use these for??? Im trying to make a movie prop dagger not some popsicle looking thing???

  • @Parad0xPr0ductions then you would need to carve it out of wood or something, if it is not going to be used for "full contact" role play a wood replica would be much better.

  • @Parad0xPr0ductions If you're trying to make a prop weapon for looks you shouldn't be looking at anything foam in the first place. This is a full-contact LARP weapon (or similar uses), meant for functionality not appearance

  • haha larping

  • lol funny uploader comments

  • no stabby?

  • @randoth357 I guess you might be able to put a point on the blade, just cut a point at the top... dnt take my word for it though I have yet to do that myself

  • @easternling i just dap a square of open cell foam on the tip, i play dag.

  • Dude this should work for my young mens camp right? Because I'm going to be having a 2000 stripling warriors battle.

  • Can;t wait to make mine.

  • isn't that the music from "Conan"

  • What is the purpose of capping?

  • What is the purpose for capping it?

  • @Jabericon

IF I remember correctly, to prevent the core from ripping the foam padding.

  • Is it ok if i used a golf club shaft? Will it break easy?

  • @Tildencourtney That should work fine as far as I know. As long as you made it secure.

  • @Tildencourtney don;t make it more than 30"

  • @backwoodsbeagle the whole sword or just the blade its self

  • @Tildencourtney whole sword. I've made several this way but I hit hard so I switched over to 3/8" fiberglass. What game you playing?

  • @Tildencourtney but I'm talkng only about the core. The foam will add a few inches, so cut your core to 30.

  • you should consider your self as a sword smith ... lol

PS:sorry my english please tell me if i wrote anything wrong

  • you konw what??? i finnaly did a katana!!! and its like the real one!! just in foam lol

  • I DID IT :D I MADE A CLOUD BUSTER SWORD!!!!!!!! although the handle wiggles a little bit ( didn't make snug fit around core ) BUT IT IS STILL AWESOME!!!!!! :D Btw I'm only 15 and this was my first sword

  • @CloudA129 rock on man, you should post a vid of you using it sometime!

  • @Usiema No one wants to see that. Aren't there too many videos of chubby, out of shape guys playing with padded weapons - sure is fun though.

  • @jjfullmer You have to be in shape if you don't want to end up hurt. Events are very testosterone filled, and andrenaline runs VERY high when there is 50+ per team on the field fighting at once. You get hit hard if you're not careful, and unsless you can take a hit without getting babied off the field it won't be a sport you can easily get into.

  • I DID IT :D I MADE A CLOUD BUSTER SWORD!!!!!!!! although the handle wiggles a little bit ( didn't make snug fit around core ) BUT IT IS STILL AWESOME!!!!!! :D

  • This is great although I would recommed not using penny's for capping if you are Australian.

Or from any other country that doesn't have Pennies.

    For obvious reasons.

    Like you don't have them.

Streamline Nerf darts are great capping,

If it's too small use two or three.

  • Dude can you help me make a foam Buster sword like Cloud Strife's?

  • sorry for my bad english, but im no national speaker

    so my question:

the blue stuff, wich you use, what`s the name of it?

  • @nameless2170 closed cell Camp pad, easily obtainable at a hardware store or your local Walmart.

  • just use them for training at home or something, but for larp buy real latex weapons they look much better

  • @EchtePoekel

    Cost.

A well made weapon w. camping pad and - not necessarily PVC pipe but fiberglass - can cost probably about 10 - 20 bucks whereas you are unlikely to find long or short sword weapons under $60 that are up to the abuse.

  • 1 tip: DO NOT USE THESE ON LARP !

  • uh.... why not?

  • a foam gian sword, would be nice to have a tut on. i can figure out how to do it myself, but who doesnt love epic music and greats tuts made by you?

  • This is a fairly good tutorial. I would recommend using fiberglass reinforced tape to secure the coin to the core. Also, replace the duct tape with cloth tape everywhere you used it on the blade - the DAP will not stick to the duct tape. Solid fiberglass rods make the better cores for these types of swords for FCMC (full contact medieval combat). Thanks.

  • Does this use the whole camp pad?

  • First that is not a sword. Second you cant have the tip all the way up. Then you can really hurt people.

  • @tibiaroxxxx um i dont think this foam sword was ever meant to hurt

  • wow, these swords are so ridiculously overweighted

  • are these swords and shields that your make good for LARPing?

  • you don't weight your handles?

  • Thank you for the video. Its very well explained and shown what to do at each step.

I do have a question, can you finish the sword with latex and then paint it?

  • i love the vids im really learning alot

  • does this need to be done in ventilated area?

  • @OldPumpFan very well actually. i made 1 and i fight wiyh it all the time. really fun and goodddd :D

  • Point of interest: DAP absolutely melts duct tape and makes it so it won't stick to anything. Better to put a layer of athletic tape over the duct tape before dapping it, as dap will actually stick to that, while it won't to duct tape.

  • I have to say, you make a great instructional video. I like the way these swords come out. I find it's much more realistic to have a definite striking surface than a round padded stick.

Question though, how do these hold up to full-contact sparring?

  • holy crap answer me alreadyyy where does the dap come from?

  • where do u get the dap in a can like that?

  • where can you get a can of dap like that?

  • great video but i have 1 question. is the pvc pipe the same length for the level 1 sword? 30 inches?

  • anyone know how long of pvc he is using?

  • it looks like a cricket bat :)

    thanks for the video

  • Soooo... This is like Mornom LARPing? I'm torn between laughing until my sides hurt and staring perplexed at what I've just seen...

  • 5:45 thats what she said

  • That's Conan music in the background.

  • Why would you trim the edges? That defeats the purpose of making it more realistic swords have edhes, not squares.

  • uhh, how long does the pipe half to be?

  • Comment removed

  • How on earth can you fight with that thing?? It's like a 2X4.

And I can't even begin to imagine how large the scabbard for it will be.

  • i like this idea. But i think im gonna use it and make 2h longsword =)

  • I find my weapons last longer when I blast Anvil of Crom whilst making them.

  • HELP ME. DO I HAVE TO USE DAP FOR THE SWORD, BECAUSE I HAVE USED SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN DAP THAT COULD STICK THINGS TOGETHER BUT IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL. I NEED HELP.

  • AHH!

thank you sooooo much for these tutorials!!!!!! :)

    i appreciate it!!!

  • you suck at making those swords they need to look real

  • Where did you get the music from?

  • can you please make a video on how to make a more realistic video or maybe even just a written tutorial tomorrow im starting a realistic sword that im hoping to use for larping

  • sweet sword

  • im starting another LARP group in illinois, because the closest one to were i live is over 2 hours away.

  • where do i get the can semen?

  • If making a sword following instructions like this, is there any way to make the tip tapered so the end of the blade doesn't look so rounded?

  • does one sword take up a whole camp pad??? please respond trying to calculate cost

  • @smosmocom If memory serves, you can easily make 3 swords out of one camping pad.

  • @jjfullmer thanks im starting a larping group in CA

  • @jjfullmer indeed. A LOT of foam to work with.

  • @jjfullmer Three swords with several layers for the blade?

  • @smosmocom : It's like 2 dollars in foam per sword man. 5 bucks of material in all.

  • lol it looks like a giant popsicle

  • @droidikadoublej Mmmmmmm... giant popsicle.

  • @jjfullmer XD LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • last pic looks like a fudgesicle

  • @anibioman Mmmmmmm... giant fudgesicle.

  • @anibioman rofl

  • @KokoroTheDragon They sell it at walmart too =3 well here any way lol,

  • To anyone who cares, if you need a cover, soccer socks have worked for me in the past

  • i have 3 friends in belegarth, i gotta make me one of these :D

  • u fail to mention the length of the pvc pipe

  • hey, you know I did a little measuring and guesstimating, and it would seem that for 24 inch lengths of camp pad, about 34-36" of 1/2" pvc.

  • yeah that seems right the handle does look about 10 inchs compaired to his hand thanks!

  • what size would you suggest for a 3-7 year old

  • whatever feels natural. personally i like to make the length of the blade as long as my arm is.

  • short sword, somewhere between 22"-27" overall, when he/she turns 12-13, give them a middle sword, about 28"-34" and then long sword after 16.

  • i dont even know whats this hockey tape is, cant you just paint the camping pad?

  • That's available at sporting goods stores, It's used to cover the handles of hockey sticks, cricket bats and baseball bats, etc.

    It's a textured, cloth tape.

  • hockey tape is the stuff you put on your sticks for better grip, its kind rough, but also nice and sticky.

  • Love the Conan music in th background. Nice sword also.

  • can you use the 77 stuff

  • hey. I live in florida. Hockey tape doesnt exist here, have any other recommendations that are similar to hockey tape?

  • i use black electrical tape or medical tape.

  • You sound like the narrator from the original Iron Chef (Iron Chef Japan). Especially at the end when you say, "Have Fun!" I almost expected you to say "Let the battle begin!" lol

  • @jstb0b ALA CUISINE!

  • wud u consider to make a buster sword ?

  • Now THAT is what I call a Boffer.

  • im dont play LARP or whatever i make these things for fun but i dont my dad would let me

  • LEARN TO GRAMMAR!

  • why its the internet

  • for supplies

    1 camp pad, +/- $6.00

    1 can of DAP +/- $6.00

Core material (i prefer 3/8" fiberglass. these are the hardest part to find but farm suplie stores usually have them. if you cant find these then youl do fine with 1/2 sch80 pvc) bout 2 bucks.

duct tape 4 bucks a roll give or take

cloth tape is about a buck or two.

now the camp pad should make 2-3 swords and my friend has the 6 buck can of dap and its made a dozen of these easilly,

  • also the 3/8" fiberglass rods generally come in 5~6 foot lengths and can be cut in half to make two weapons

  • my god, LARPING is keeping the duct tape and camp-pad industries afloat.

  • 'Tis true.

  • this wouldn't be considered a stabby tip, right?

  • @xmnjx22 Depends on which group your playing with a stabby tip consist of open celled foam for most LARP groups but some groups accept the above as a thrusting tip and it hurts more than open celled foam.

  • Very well made instructional video.

    5*

That could be painted up with some detail to look like Conans sword.

  • can you make two swords out of one pad?

  • hey dude i just wanted to know how much it cost u to make that and the shield i got bout 50 bucks that ok?

  • looks like the sword from KH2

  • no it doesnt

  • at the beginning when roxas only has the tournament blade.

  • How much did it cost you to make this sword?

  • i was hoping no one would notice but you are right it is "between the time when the OCean drank atlantis" I thought of it later and realized i typed it wrong.. anyway have a good one and thanks for your comment

  • Conan nice choice this song moves me greatly "between the fall of atlantis.. and the rise of the sons of ariad.. there was an age undreamed of.. and unto this age.. conan was born.. it is I his chronicler, who alone can tell you of his tale.. Let me tell you of the days of High adventure"

  • Is this an LDS LARP?

  • Comment removed

  • does it have to be hlf inch tube,, or can we use 1 inch?

  • It can really be half inch, 2/4 inch. I don't know of anyone actually doing it with one inch, but you probably could.

  • most people use 1/2" or 3/4". You can use a 1" I myself have and it does work, but I wouldn't suggest it for any sword under 4'

  • couldent u use a cheep wine cork to cap it ?????

  • That's an interesting idea. I don't see why not. You could also cut a carboard circle, a cutout of foam, and other such things. Just so long as it won't go through your foam.

  • uhh i have a question can you use something else besides dap contact cement?

  • at the end it just looks like a chocolate ice cream bar

  • is apoxy kosher?

  • you ever glue your hand to your face using that stuff??? not fun!!!! btw awsome tut

  • does this work for dagorhir?

  • nooo need for that much duct tape

this guy's weapons are probably heavy and weighted very unevenly

  • wow, I use the blue foam, a much simpler method, and my weapons look so much better than this horrid excuse for a boffer.

  • So where's your tutorial???

  • can someone plz plz plz tell me where i can get that foam?!

  • walmart, camping stores

  • walmart

  • walmart

  • got mine a walmart for around 8 bucks

  • i like your song haha......my earlier comment asking if this was leagel - i found in the book of war that it was - in case u care

  • dude thankyou so much ive made all of your swords eccept this one but before i make it could you send me a message on if it breaks easly cus i read some of the other comments and they say that they breack easy im going to a larp tournament and this will be the sowd that i might bring but thank you so much

  • Interesting and it seems easy to get special shapes this way, but is there any advantage over the old PVC and pipe insulation method? This just seems like a lot of work.

  • what do your swords tend to weigh? i really like your method, as i use dap or gorilla glue with carpet tape myself. but your sword just seems like it would be heavy.

why the second striking edge too that just seemed to make your sword bulky?

  • I thought this method of contruction went out long ago. Fibreglass is the new core (kytespar for some) and double sided carpet tape is the new adhesive. I think these would pass Darkon inspection without much effort.

  • Hey, thanks for helping us out. However, it looks like you sometimes use your shirt to wipe your...butt.

  • Ah, the ol' Triple Layer Cake Pommel. I remember those. Those have always been trusty.

  • Now would I do the same thing when I make an Axe? Could I get away with using a pvc-1/8th inch plywood core and padd it heavily?

  • i think everything needs to be formed with the PVC, i'm not sure how this new fangled "boffer" works when making weapons exactly but when they were made with 1 inch PVC and snapple bottle caps duck tape and pipe insulation and PVC cement the Axe you had to form the blade with PVC and pad it heavily

  • I accidentally removed MooCowFat's comment about cloth covers. Yes that absolutely is the best way to go!

  • Quite a good sword fellow knight! Would dothst like to go on a raid of Safeway dungeon? My alliance and I went on a raid quite recently, but were banished by the level 80 Manager. He obviously had quite a powerful summoning skill, as he summoned "The Security" On our clan utterly destroying us! We plan to increase our levels, and ranks to raid the dungeon again!
