@xxmasterchiefofahlo a lot of swords are balanced front heavy and honestly they won't swing like a real sword no matter what you do. but if you do want to change the balance point I've used cut up lead diving weights (you could use fishing weights) in the pommel to weight a claymore I made a long...long time ago.
@hathegkla Hey thanks for the heads up. I just made a noodle blade and to be honest the thing isn't heavy at all, so balance is really not that much of a problem. Still, good to know that no matter what, it's not going to swing like a real sword.
@Parad0xPr0ductions then you would need to carve it out of wood or something, if it is not going to be used for "full contact" role play a wood replica would be much better.
@Parad0xPr0ductions If you're trying to make a prop weapon for looks you shouldn't be looking at anything foam in the first place. This is a full-contact LARP weapon (or similar uses), meant for functionality not appearance
@randoth357 I guess you might be able to put a point on the blade, just cut a point at the top... dnt take my word for it though I have yet to do that myself
I DID IT :D I MADE A CLOUD BUSTER SWORD!!!!!!!! although the handle wiggles a little bit ( didn't make snug fit around core ) BUT IT IS STILL AWESOME!!!!!! :D Btw I'm only 15 and this was my first sword
@jjfullmer You have to be in shape if you don't want to end up hurt. Events are very testosterone filled, and andrenaline runs VERY high when there is 50+ per team on the field fighting at once. You get hit hard if you're not careful, and unsless you can take a hit without getting babied off the field it won't be a sport you can easily get into.
I DID IT :D I MADE A CLOUD BUSTER SWORD!!!!!!!! although the handle wiggles a little bit ( didn't make snug fit around core ) BUT IT IS STILL AWESOME!!!!!! :D
A well made weapon w. camping pad and - not necessarily PVC pipe but fiberglass - can cost probably about 10 - 20 bucks whereas you are unlikely to find long or short sword weapons under $60 that are up to the abuse.
This is a fairly good tutorial. I would recommend using fiberglass reinforced tape to secure the coin to the core. Also, replace the duct tape with cloth tape everywhere you used it on the blade - the DAP will not stick to the duct tape. Solid fiberglass rods make the better cores for these types of swords for FCMC (full contact medieval combat). Thanks.
Point of interest: DAP absolutely melts duct tape and makes it so it won't stick to anything. Better to put a layer of athletic tape over the duct tape before dapping it, as dap will actually stick to that, while it won't to duct tape.
I have to say, you make a great instructional video. I like the way these swords come out. I find it's much more realistic to have a definite striking surface than a round padded stick.
Question though, how do these hold up to full-contact sparring?
HELP ME. DO I HAVE TO USE DAP FOR THE SWORD, BECAUSE I HAVE USED SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN DAP THAT COULD STICK THINGS TOGETHER BUT IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL. I NEED HELP.

This is great although I would recommed not using penny's for capping if you are Australian.
Or from any other country that doesn't have Pennies.
For obvious reasons.
Like you don't have them.
Streamline Nerf darts are great capping,
If it's too small use two or three.
