Just started using Sketchup and getting into 3D animation. I really underestimated thepower of this little puppy and the more I learn the more I learn. I am stuck up on a few things right now so I was trawling the sites to find some answers. Found out about Massive Black and was greatly inspired by what you guys are doing.

I can use 3dsMax so thats been keeping me from using sketchup, but it just looks so much easier and faster, and the fact that you can store little bits you make and quickly bring them up... thats just awesome!.

They are using Sketchup for concept work because it's fast and easy... Blender is pretty cool but I'm noticing it's about the most challenging program to learn modeling... it just doesn't have the ease of use that something like Maya or other autodesk programs and sketchup has... even Modo or whatever else out there has an intuitive interface and Blender just doesn't... but it has lots of potential and with 2.5 Alpha in the works I hope to see some more user friendly changes...

this is more of a promotional video so im not very impressed by this. although sketchup is handy to get a picture of your ideas in 3d. but honestly i dont use it for concept art design simple because i work faster in photoshop using my knowledge of 3d drawing. its fun though to bring it in sketchup afterwords, but i just do that to see the end result, not to actually design it.

I've been doing sketchup for years now, and it is actually very easy to use. It has an easy paint system that includes textures. you can make animations and render your madels. It's much easier than Maya or Truespace, in fact I have some videos on skutchup, just look up my channel ( Yotsu21) and you should see them.

when you export something from sketchup it is a zip file that has been renamed you can unzip the contents and import it to XSi from there you might be able to find aother exporter for maya

yes, Maya is a professional 3D Graphics Application. Pixar uses Maya to make their movies.

u can use rendering plugins like irender. as for the skins, take an nice image of your choice to work as a color. and voila! cool render with nice skins!

never had any experience with any other 3d program, than I got sketchup and within 2 days i had already drawn up a transmission for some project. very very very very very very easy! I also tried 3ds max 2009 once but that's much harder and takes a LOT of time to learn with a LOT of tutorial while for sketchup you practically don't need any time at all.
