  • you need to work on few things, like apperance, slow down, and signels. also why are you trying to make a video at the sametime as working a game.

  • most of this guy's advice i would never do in a real game.

    Wrong:

    -hat backwards

    -wrong stance

    -not in slot

    -voices swinging strike

    -calls strike too quickley

i mean this guy is giving the complete opposite of what a good umpire should do

    horrible umpire

  • So much wrong with this guy: hat is on backwards, stance is attrocious, not set up in slot, calls pitches too quickly, voices a swinging strike. Pathetic. Expert village my ass!

  • Turn your damn hat around! This guy is a joke.

  • he sucks ass he flinches u never flinch as an umpire u will get fucked up

  • what a terrible umpire

  • anyone realize this guys channel has 2 billion upload views?

  • @c1eve1andsucks lol this isnt this guys channles its the expert village channle multipul ppl own this channle and they all use it lol

  • iebrt4 elew 4b;ke 45 srtrgsl rerled grl5te!!

  • What a dork...go to a few clinics and learn to be a REAL umpire.

  • at 1:35 hey jakass instead of lecturing us about what u think you know how bout enforcin a little league rule of "no coaches warming up pitchers"

  • probably the biggest backstop ive ever seen

  • on the 3rd pitch he turned his head and flinched

  • im a picther and i love it when the umpires call it that quick, but idk. one thing i noticed is look how close the backstop is

  • lol 3 things again.. 1 hat shouldn't be backwards.. 2. ur timing is not good.. u should wait a second or so before u make a call.. u call it as the catcher is catching it and 3.. where is the catchers dangling throat guard? o_O

  • Is this a joke?

  • At end of the clip a coach is catching for the pitcher, no one but a player can catch for a pitcher at anytime in Little League even a practice.

  • wow that batter was playing way of the base

  • listening and looking at this man makes me embarrassed to be an umpire

  • 0:55 is the batter in the box?

  • @tornadoguy100

How can you tell there is no batters box!

  • Hey poppyseeds1823- My comments were made two years ago. I am calm. There's no need to be vulgar. Yes, it is obviously Little League, but this "umpire" professes to be an "expert." As such, he should maintain the highest level of professionalism and do EVERYTHING right. This entire series is well intentioned, but misses the mark and is most likely used as a comedy clip or as "What not to do."

  • @slpcoach Oh man... it's a *sport*, fer cryin' out loud. In this clip he's talking about VOICE PROJECTION, which he does quite well IMHO, so I don't see why anyone should get worked up on other details. As for having to "maintain the highest level of professionalism and do EVERYTHING right", we are all merely humans. When did you last do "everything right"? Who (TF) cares which hand he holds the indicator in or how low he crouches as long as he makes the right calls? Get a BREAK.

  • Damn blue pants...haha

  • twwwwwwooooo!!! :56

  • Why is he a semi-pro bowler?

  • What the hell do you mean they need to know what base to run to? You can only run to the next base dumbass. uhhhh I think I should run home...no wait maybe....no wait what is the count?....oh 2-1 oh ok then I will just go to second then.

  • Why dont you move up to the catcher dude? Your so far back how can you call it. How can that field be rated for a little league world series? Hell the backstop is 5 feet from the plate. This whole series of videos is hilarous. I want to show this at the next USSSA umpire clinic.

  • Get a 4 stitch cap and keep it forward not backwards ya n00b!

  • why does he wear his hat back wards?

  • O btw at the end when a coach is catching for his pitcher that is illegal in LL baseball, also he is putting his indicator in the wrong hand.

  • the only thing i can think off is the fact the hat is to big and false off or won't fit with mask in front.

  • @Igotgame911 because the bill of his hat will not fit with the mask on....

  • @Igotgame911 it is easier with those kinds of masks

  • @Igotgame911 To give him a very clear view of the plate and the field.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow this guy is a joke. He would get eaten alive by a select coach, let alone a high school varsity or college level coach.. Expertvillage my ass

  • OMG, this guy's stance is all wrong. He looks disheveled and is in no way in any position to be attempting to train anybody when he doesn't even know the proper mechanics himself.

  • This is bad!!!!

  • This is painful to watch!!!

  • This is an embarrassment. This "umpire" is at best a rank amateur. Stance is wrong, cap is backwards, indicator is in the wrong hand. Just pathetic. "Expertvillage", yeah, right!

  • This is no one to emulate. Improper stance, improper dress and mechanics which do not conform to the professional (or trained amateur) community. There is no excuse to be untrained with all of the information that is available. If you really want to be an announcer get up in the press box.

  • at the end that kid shouldnt be warming up the pichter hahaha

  • He flinches everytime the ball gets close....notice the catcher doesn't....He's just some washed up drunk immigrant...

  • the batter is standing way back from the front of the plate, however without a marked batters box it may have been agreed they can stand that far back. Also i think its a general baseball cap not an umpires one so wouldn't be able to wear it the right way.

Also why not wear a blue framed mask?

  • Why couldn't he wear his hat the correct way? I know many people who use an 8 stitch hat behind the plate and wear it properly.

  • caps made specifically for plate umpires have a shorter bill ( the hard bit, it doesn't extend out as far) so when a face mask is worn it fits properly against the face like when a catcher wears one. when using a regular cap the bill extends to far meaning the face mask wont fit properly and so the must be worn like a catcher would a skull cap

  • Scott:

Let me restate. I know of many people who wear an 8 stitch cap behind the plate, and they wear it properly. I am talking about guys who work the NCAA World Series level of ball. I myself wear a 6 stitch, rather than the 4 stitch or the 2 stitch beanie style, because I think it looks better and more professional.

  • If not batters box is marked, it is the umpires discretion as to if the batter is in, or out of the box.... in little league like this, they better be WAAAAAAAY out of the box to call that. There are specially made caps for plate umpires to wear their caps properly they have shorter bills. NEVER wear your cap backwards. As for the blue framed mask, it's all a matter of taste. top priority is not getting hurt when you get hit, not looking good

  • turn your cap around.

  • Nice stance!

This guy REALLY knows "projection." He has projected his level as an umpire very clearly, judging by his AWESOME appearance and STELLAR mechanics! This guy has some real stones putting this out there as a serious attempt at umpiring. I respect him for that. But, seriously?

  • Bad position behind catcher beacause ther's no lock, he moves his head when the balls coming so the strike zone will move all the time and you don't tell the strike if the batter's swinging just do the mouvement.

  • is a catcher a good position?

  • i think for the most part he does make some points. Granted, the method in which he's crouching behind home plate might not work for you or I, it works for him. Everyone has their own way of calling strikes and outs and what not, so just keep that in mind. It's a great overall tool as far as projection, but you might want to fall into whatever your comfortable with. This is just how he does it and why.

  • Do me a favor and let's not wear a blue mask either. His timing is horrid, hands do not go behing your back, you don't duck down like this...hardly anything about this video is correct. His comments about voice projection are correct - letting everyone know what's going on is necessary and a good thing. If he was my partner during a game, I'd be the one giving him pointers... I think he was chosen to do this video series solely because of his age. I agree with aceholleran.

  • did he die???

  • This just shameful. Young umpires--do not watch.

  • This guy is full of himself. He "umpires" little kids games and thinks he should make a video.

Hat backwards. Croutching too low. Batter is standing 3' south of where he's allowed. And - "it's up to the UMPIRE to tell everybody what's going on at all times(?)". UHM - no it is not. The guy should clarify that if you are working you first 7-8 year old game, this video MIGHT help. But it might start some bad habits you can't break.

  • this guy is a GREAT teacher!!! .... for anyone who wants to be an umpire!!! good stuff

  • It suck your position is horrible I hate you I hope Die

  • this is a pretty good video for someone just starting out. One thing for a rookie umpire to keep in mind though, is that you should NEVER voice the third strike when a batter goes down swinging. Other than that, he does a decent job explaining things for a rookie umpire.

  • Dude seriously turn your hat forward your an umpire not a player...

  • vanparty - also people still use indcaoirts on the bases. give me a break and go crawl back in your hole.

  • critter....You're a complete tool.

  • well thank you. anyways i dont use that hand for my clicker how he umpire.

but the problem is your comparing mlb to little leauge voulnteer umpire there ususally are wrong.

hack when i was doing little leauge for free. ( do baberuth and calripken now) uic didnt even know a foultip was alive ball.

  • Good luck at the Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken level. Yes, you are correct, using indicators on the bases, at that level is OK. We don't use them in High School, College, or Semi Pro games. Just try to realize that there are umpires out there who have done high level baseball games, and we're only trying to be helpful. What state do you umpire in? Good luck with your games this season.

  • its New hampshire. btw i am getting use to taking my hat off with my mask... just putting it on its a diffrent problem lol.

i bought a combo hat this year i had no plate hat last year (only bases) i am more intersted in finding out how many umps do not use indicators at the high shool level. cause most umpires i work with do high school level. they also said i had a good stirke zone :D.

  • a lot i have to ask wher eit missed and shyt

  • Your hat should NEVER come off with your mask...PERIOD! If it does frequently, you're a rook. Pull the mask forward and lift up and your hat will stay on your head. A good umpire's hat never leaves his head during a game. And indicators are for plate umpires, not base umpires. That's Bush league shit. If the plate umpire can't keep track of his own count then he has no business being behind the plate...THAT'S YOUR JOB! The base umpire is responsible for enough shit w/o having to worry the count

  • @syxrzacm don't even sart read the whole comments

    next time before commenting

  • anyone know which state this was flim in?

  • you put the ball into play before the catcher was even squatting that was retarded. You weren't even in the slot so your guessing the strike zone proof on the second strike was way below his knees. Lastly a swinging strike three there is no voice you make a simple out signal. No need to embarrass the kid more then he already is.

  • i agree with you

  • Last thing - while I agree that it's important for the umpire to tell everyone what's going on at all times, there are limits, and the limits are what the umpire is truly responsible for - balls, strikes, safe, out, fair, foul and rulings on judgment calls. Everyone else on the field has the responsibility to know the rules, know how to play the game and know what's happening in the game at the time it's being played. Coaching from the umpire position can't always be avoided, but should be.

  • Start telling everyone, especially the fans, where the pitches are and they'll start telling you where your strike zone is whether you like it or not. It doesn't help anyone, especially kids who have a hard enough time knowing where the strike zone should be, let alone where you actually call it. c.) Aside from the other comments about the slot, etc. when tracking a pitch in, track it to the catcher's mitt and keep your head as still as possible, even on a swinging strike...helps timing too.

  • Aside from what's already been mentioned, there are a couple of other observations for anyone who's interested: a.) A loud voice is certainly helpful and shows command of the game however, it can also present you as having a chip on your shoulder. Consistency usually wins out over sheer volume. People will learn to listen for you, especially those that are truly interested. b.) Letting people know where the 'pitch' is is generally a mistake that tends to invite more 'discussion' from everyone

  • Regardless of whether one does Little League or not, one should not be touted as an expert when there are some basic fundamentals that are completely wrong. As a LL volunteer myself, I have a great appreciation for volunteering one's time and am grateful that this umpire does so however, there are so many issues with his technique that it virtually invalidates anything he's really trying to get across.

  • Whoever this umpire is needs to learn how to umpire. Thanks God you only do little league!!

  • I love turtles... realy...

  • I'm sorry to hear you have a disability, I don't wish that on anyone, but it doesn't seem to stop you from using profanity, and acting like an asshole. People w/ disabilities can also be assholes, which is what you are displaying. Don't use your handicap as some sort of excuse for your poor pathetic attitude. you should be ashamed.

  • You should be ashamed of yourself for picking on someone's disability.

  • I'm not ashamed of telling an ignorant foul mouthed jerk that his attitude is terrible, and his language is immature. He's an individual who hides behind a disability, and uses it as an excuse to spew profanity. HE'S the one who went on the offensive w/ the personal comments. I don't know him, nor was the fact that he had a disability brought up in earlier posts. Maybe he's just illiterate, or maybe he DOES have a mental problem. If so, he shouldn't be officiating, and needs to learn respect.

  • I understand what you mean, but it is not your job to tell someone how to act or behave. This person explained that he has a disability, but he never used it as an excuse.

  • Thanks for your point of view, I appreciate it. If you read his post..."I have already explain..." you'll see that he IS using his disability as a REASON to act like an a-hole. Those are his own words. I tried to give the guy in the video pointers, and this critter guy started w/some arrogant comments regarding my posts. At no point did I pick on his disability. I told him to learn to spell, but that was in response to his ignorance BEFORE he stated he had a disability.

  • A disability is no excuse to act rude. I appreciate you giving pointers to the guy in the video. It's about time someone stood up for a guy who is making an effort for the kids.

  • 6) The indicator (not called a clicker) is held in the LEFT hand. If you go to bang a kid out, it may go flying out of your hand.

Believe me, I'm just trying to make some helpful comments. Get some information on clinics. You will no doubt find it very enlightening.

  • critter2: Like it or not, IT DOES MATTER, and it's called an INDICATOR. Get a clue, and learn to spell.

  • Hey....critter, man....relax. You're the one who's going nutso here, not me. If you continue to think that it doesn't matter what hand the indicator is held in, well then, you obviously are an umpire who doesn't care about the PROPER way to do things. If I worked in Dick's Sporting Goods, I'd look at you strange too, with your attitude. Oh. and again, get a dictionary...It's spelled D-I-C-T-I-O-N-A-R-Y. If you need help...feel free to drop me a line.

  • if you knew anything you would know there two sprate umpire indcators are made. and you still dont need to be a jackass. there are two design clickers one can be left one can be right like i said your a jackass

  • Every good umpire knows that the indicator goes in the left hand and the mask is removed with the left hand because strikes and outs are called with the right hand. There is no room for ambiguity in these areas.

  • more bs from people. using indcator in a diffrent hand does not make you a bet ter umpire. at all.

i am tired of people complaing about stupid ass litte things know one should give to rats asses about. yet you keep bitching about it .

  • critter2: You need to calm down my man. We're only noting the PROPER way things should be done. Try watching a Major League game, and you'll see that ALL the umpires behind the plate carry their indicator in their LEFT hand, and indicators are NOT used on the bases. Just trying to be helpful sir. Now, if you want to continue using profanity, and acting immature, thats your business, but don't accuse others of the same. Good luck.

  • i do wathc mlb baseball and i dont care. and why should i clam down having a clicker in a diffrent hand dosent make you a bad umpire... yet you cant grasp that.

i will cause your being a totally asshole. bitching about something know one looks at.

  • Actually it's up for debate. Many umpires I know use them at all levels. Definitely a little fishy at a pro level. But there's nothing against actually doing it. I ask if I'm the BU if they want me to have one out there, it's about 50/50. There's nothing wrong with it if that's how a crew wants to work. I also find it helpful if I'm working with an umpire for the first time.

  • I applaud you for giving your time to youngsters, but there are a lot of flaws in your game.

    1) Your hat is backwards. Perception is reality, and you only get one chance at a first impression. It makes you look like a boob.

    2) As wumpire1807 stated, you're not in the slot, and you're crouching.

    3) Never vocalize a swinging strike.

    4) Unless you don't mind broken toes, get some plate shoes.

    5) It is NOT your job to keep the players heads in the game. Give the count about every few pitches.

  • hes not wearing any plate pants. hes directly behind the catcher and not in the slot. his head heighth is way too low. and screaming strike 3 on a swinging strike? Man you are pitiful. Come work some of the quality games that I do, then you will be hiding behind the catcher.

  • Sounds like you have an ego problem. This guy dresses well, sets up behind the plate well, knows the rules, and is professional. You are probably dissing him because you're jealous.

  • Who the heck are you looking at? This guy has his hat on backwards for crying out loud. NO decent umpire wears their hat on backwards. Why should I be jealous of this guy? I work division 1 college baseball, not this little league crap. Buy a pair of plate pants for crying out loud.

  • Where do you start critiquing this guy: (1) bill in the front, (2) indicator in wrong hand, (3) working too low, (4) not working the "slot", (5) timing is WAY too quick, and (6) you NEVER call a swinging strike. I'm sure there are more, but I'm getting nauseous.

  • @slpcoach its little league bro calm the fuck down

  • @slpcoach the point of this video was to discuss voice projection, was it not? relax man, the video gave the lesson it said it would.

  • This guy is a knob.

  • how are you an expert on umpiring when you wear your hat backwards when working the plate?
