There is a large preference of collectivism over individualism (the originality producing kind of individualism, not the ususal materialism), when it comes to multiculturalism. I woul like to see the day when an integral worldview takes hold, when both individuality and collectivity are seen as utterly fundamental... BOTH. What annoys me about this is the constant theme of tolerance which is pushed though.Tolerance is the act of forgiving and ignoring something that is supposedly wrong. You promote contradictions and misguided motivations if anything with this waffle of "evolution" in our so called "new age". Those who have a clearvision are so few, and the desire to go along with everyone else is also very strong, so it take some mental-power to keep away, to embrace life and the same time make boarders for yourself, walls against the things wich endanger your life/vision or whatever. I agree that this man is a little messed up. He is amazingly materialistic, and an asshole, though he has some spiritual teachings that may be worthwhile. I think post-modernism is an important invention. Though, I can clearly see beyond post-modernism and pluralism. Actually, what he says is obvious. I don't share his extremist views as they manifest in meditation retreats. He argues against boomeritis only, BTW.

Spiritual seekers are ceaselessly disappointed, and constantly blame themselves or deify a guru in order to explain to themselves why they are just the same despite all the meditation and retreats they go on. Consciousness almost certainly doesn't survive death, so why worry?

I agree to your viewpoints to a certain extent. The wild promises made by spiritual organizations are just business strategies. After 30 years of meditation I have have not reached the so called enlightenment, but 'only' a certain kind of subtle inner joy. I think this 'state' can be reached by any Tom, Dick or Harry, as far as they leave the smart religious movements and walk the path alone or in good company of fellow travellers.

Any human notion is a mere cultural construction. Cohen's view of transcendending pluralism is based on such a construction. Morals, Values, Transcendence...These are all derived human concepts and if such things exist at a real level, then we have merely reduced them to our thought process.

I'm not the one trying to put the world under one paradigm, because that goes against good advice from Thomas Kuhn, who wrote about the structure of scientific revolutions, and propagated the word paradigm. I agree that we shouldn't institute one paradigm (that would be non-integral with regard to the facts). Cultures must be preserved, yet free thought must be cultivated.
