i honestly... can not wait to meet him and see this young man perform late April. I am a young man who is 17. And i admit it. when i meet him. i will cry.

@alexandros788 i've listen to yundi's interpretation, and : he makes 5 mistakes, among them, one in which we hadn't play 3 or 4 notes, and others at the end, and by the way he played the end slower than kissin...
Granted he is extremely talented, it doesn't sound to me like there's a whole lot of emotion in this. Not as much as I've heard in other versions. I miss Okada Masaru's version, but for some reason I can't find it anywhere anymore :(
I cannot even type my passwords that fast and flawlessly! Oh, such a brilliant performance! The clarity and shading is everything it could be, and the speed diminishes none of it. Others are good, this is great at the far edge of genius.
Minor mistakes but somehow I like how he plays it...I don't think I like this song soft because well..it just doesn't seem like it should. How he plays it makes it very exciting and jumpy and I like it :)
@123Rorshach ahahahahahah...probably i would make ONLY mistakes, but i don't do concerts... if you listen to yundi li or lang lang's interpretation you can surely understand what i meant.
@alexandros789 So I watched Yundi Li's interpretation and I still prefer Kissin's. There were parts in Kissin's version that just made his interpretation more appealing to me than Yundi's. I guess it's personal preference ... If you don't mind me asking though can you explain where you see mistakes in this version? I listen to it and hear nothing that stands out as a mistake (Mind you I'm not a pianist, I play classical guitar).
@mugen404 mistakes are at 1.43, 3:24, 4:02 and there are others in the last 20 seconds. obviously still a very good interpretation, but when you propose so popular tracks the audience expects you to not make mistakes, even the most minor. if you listen to yundi li's version, you will not listen any mistakes. having said that, kissin remains for me an excellent pianist
@oitotheworld23 First I did not call you "rubbish", and also want to say that maybe I've misunderstood me: this interpretation of "La Campanella" is wonderful for many reasons, but certainly mistakes make it less beautiful. why can i tell that Michelangeli is a much better pianist than me? because he has a divine technique, plays everything perfectly, but also because presses never a wrong note. the errors are important, and not a little.
@kristoferfir i don't know. michelangeli in his tours played not famous pieces, and i have some recordings of beethoven, debussy and other important musicians played by him. due to the fact that Michelangeli played only songs of particular authors, always the same, he was accused of not having a vast repertoire, but his students have said that Michelangeli played excellently also authors he never played in concert. and I believe it!
@alexandros789 look, if you are going to analyze accuracy at a level that condemns this performance, then you are turning piano performance into a sport. accuracy should serve the purpose of the art and the music. accuracy for the sake of accuracy is worthless, this is why we don't like to listen to computer generated music.
@alexandros789 only perhaps michelangeli could play more accurately, and still pull off a convincing performance. and in general, I don't think he braved pieces like this, had limited repertoire and rarely recorded or performed. I think this fact is pretty well documented, kissin can pull anything out of his ass at any moment, and play it ACCURATELY ENOUGH, he is a genius
@kristoferfir i'm not telling that kissin is not a "monster" pianist,i just think that at that level you can't make so evident mistakes. i heard a lot of other music played by him,and i think he's really good. but don't compare him with Michelangeli,please... first he's italian like me, then he's the piano's GOD :D
4 years ago, this video was the most viewed "La Campanella" on Youtube. (more than Yundi's version, at that time) When you search "la campanella" this was in the top of the first page.
When this video reached about 1,000,000 views (while Yundi Li reached about 7-800,000) The video has been deleted.
It take years to appear in the front page again.
That is the reason why this video has only 100,000 views.
none of your opinions matter. if you played like Kissin, instead of criticizing, youd be where he is, and not giving your 'expertise' over the internet.
@Edmondemon If I'm not very mistaken (although I really might be, my eyesight or video quality isn't all that) but it appears to be the Royal Albert Hall?
Ok, I am fairly convinced this is the best Liszt La Campanella of the modern times.. Maybe better than mr. Rubinstein's. Yevgenij Kissin = perfection.
@DRUNKyoungMan Oh, yeah. Rubinstein never recorded La Campanella. That whole video is a lie, and its poster did not give credit to the actual pianist.
i think this is one of the rare tirmes kissin lost control on stage, pay attention to he last page, his brain doesn't follow his fingers...but that's still unbelievable!
"Oh my, what did i just wake up to.... what's that under my foot?.....oh right Kissin (just the most technical pianist out there) is playing, maybe i should pay attention
@sill3n have you ever hear o the idea that when you look down or close your, you can remove many visual distractions which inhibit ones ability to hear or pay attention? this is why many musicians, even rock musicians like MGMT close their eyes when playing...this is also why xtians close their eyes and look down when praying, its not b/c they are sleeping, they are trying to concentrate
I love the way you play La Campanella and all the music on the piano! You are so modest and that´s an invaluable virtue, one of the greatest!! Ich gratuliere Dir!! Weiter so!!

@mxgirl918 I do believe it's in the FRSM. After grade 8 you'd go onto the Dip. ABRSM, then LRSM, then finally FRSM. They're all performing diplomas. =]
i saw him live at the Barbican in London-- and i had a first row seat!!! he is truly unbelievable-- impossible to describe how amazing he is, both technically and artistically.
Wow! Kissin actually misses a note at 1:09...Nice to know that even the greatest are human! I would give a cherished part of my anatomy to be able to play like like Kissin. Nice Jewfro, by the way. What? They embrace it...
oh holy crap! I listened to it for 8 times...this is UNBELIEVABLE...The best piano player every the humanity had for Liszt...His incredible technique and that crazy temperament - like a dynamite...Kissin is perfect for Liszt!!!
Haha 4:02-4:03 he shakes his head and sweat falls from his brow in droplets. Perfectly understandable; my entire body would fall apart if my hands were trying to do that.
@DiscreteSam93 I heard it.. But it's not unusual for them to slip sometimes.. This piece is really hard, and if you play 100 concerts a year, you'll have good and bad performances..
Evgeny Kissin's video clip of La Campanella is the one that pulled me into the world of classical music. I used to listen to all the rock music in middle school, but a roommate of mine in my junior year in high school showed me the video, and that was it. Now it's been 2 years and a couple months I started playing piano, now I'm practicing Chopin Etudes, Scriabin Etudes and Beethoven Sonatas. But this is not the exact video, since this one was uploaded on February 2008.
Anyways, Kissin is my hero. I love you Kissin. I am amazed how much you've grown since your teenage performances. I loved your Chopin and Prokiviev at your concert I went to earlier this year. I hope you can become a legendary pianist of all time.

He smashed it! incredible.
Beside this Valentina Lisitsa's interpretation seems a little workmanlike. Kissin's dynamics are wonderfully subtle, each note breathes on its own

Listz knew what he was doing when he transcribed this piece to the genre of the pianoforte. Kissin also knows what he is doing !

Really, a wonderful performance and an incredible talent. Nevertheless, it's uncomparable with the recording of Michelangeli, Fiorentino or Gavrilov.

It's a good version, but the best is from Josef Hofmann, it's impossible to reach him. Listen bevor rating.
