Popeye plays a mean bull-fiddle solo at 3:37. Check out Olive's imitation of Sarah Bernhardt at 6:17--what an actress. And what's with Popeye's unnamed brand of spinach?--It doesn't stay with him for very long. The inter-borough (burro) subway was a larf.
@MatthewtheY Yeah---subtract one minute. These old fingers don't always hit the number keys just right. I've always been better with words...it comes from watching cartoons.
El parking is a parking lot in Tijuana. No reason why el spinachio shouldn't be spinach near a border bull ring. And who wouldn't fuss over Ms. Oyl, so much sexier than Minnie or Daisy.
@maciekur This cartoon was released in 1953 so the announcer (1:02) must be referring to the autobiography "Bullfighter from Brooklyn" written by Sidney Franklin (1903-1976) and published in 1952. The book was popular in its day and Franklin was the subject of pieces in "The New York" and Time Magazine.
@maciekur Let's be clear, Bluto uses some of the old Brooklyn accent here. He says "foist" (first), youse (you) and "houseabout?" (How's about?). You could still hear traces of this accent up and down Flatbush Avenue through the 1970's especially when old ladies go together to "Went to choich t'play BINGA."
Thank you for noting that. In Spanish, most nouns that end with an "a" are considered female (so it's incorrect to put "el", a male article, before it). "La espinaca" would be a more proper translation, but in Spanish sometimes it's better to obviate the article (hence, "Espinaca") and some nouns are rarely used in singular, making it "Espinacas", in plural.

The part where Popeye uses the bull as a guitar is hillarious. Also love this quote "This monkey's too good, and dat's bad."

@maciekur Judging by his accent, no real reason to doubt it.

I know for a fact that "El Spinachio" is not the proper Spanish translation for spinach
