With the way our state option runs here in my state the cost of healthcare is less as part of it, because the efficient use of money is prioritized over profit-making. Not to say that there is no profit, but but priorities, like effective preventative care, have to be taken advantage of to maximize the use of money. When it's less profit driven the cheaper preventative stuff happens more commonly. SInce there is less profit to be made in keeping people sick and pushing them into specialty care.

Yes, the middle class, the majority of Americans oppose universal healthcare. Obama's plan covers all 46 million uninsured, 20 million at least of which are illegals. Democrats voted down an amendment which would have disallowed illegals to get health insurance. Health reform should consist of 3 things: tax free health savings accounts, tort reform,and allowing HMOs to compete across state lines to create competition(lower prices) and more favorable terms in contract for those who want insurance

Universal healthcare isn't the only type of reform so it would be ignorant to say one who support reform support universal healthcare. It wasn't a bill, it was an amendment offered by Dean Heller of Nevada and voted down by the Democrats, the House Bill is HR 3200, you can find information on the amendment on his website "heller(dot)house(dot)gov"
