hmmm personally I think Paul Potts and Pavarotti are equivalent great singers in different ways, but technical wise, Pavarotti is WAY better, it is a fact, not an opinion AT ALL. Every single voice teachers would tell you that. But that make sense cause Pavarotti spend his whole life on that. I really like them both, enjoy listening them both, but I am not that "blinded" to love Paul Potts ignoring all the facts. Btw this is a fantastic version of YRMU, one of the best Ive ever heard.

I can see this, since that is a very big factor in the amount of emotion we feel while listening. But that has nothing to do with with his physical voice.

I wrote this because people were comparing a great voice with a mediocre voice as if there is not difference. A better comparison would be with Groban, since both are not Opera singers.

hmmm well I am musical theater singer/actor, I am more focus on the storytelling of the songs instead of just the voice alone, but I also listen opera so I can tell the technical difference. Coz in general people's listening of music, if they don't get moved by the song/singer they don't care about the technical AT ALL. Having a great voice does not necessary make you become a better singer/performer unless you are performing in opera house, which really rely on pure acoustic of the house.

Speaking of Paul Potts "Nessun Dorma", which some ppl think it is as good as Pav, I think Potts' presentation is pretty moving but of coz that would fail if he performs that in an opera house due to his lack of training. But Pav isn't that great either in most of his performances for that song, his singing just does not have much "determined character" in it. I think for Nessun Dorma, the best is Franco Corelli, and YuQiang Dai is one of the best too (even though his italian is not good).

I'm not a huge fan of Pavs voice myself, I much prefer Corelli. For ease and lack of tensen Pav has no equal. Cor was a better actor/perf.

I agree with you that a great voice does not make a great singer or a moving performer. The greatest singers have both, this is very rare as great performers are much more common then great voices.I'm more of a opera guy(my brother sings opera professionally), but I also love Musical T. Opera is simple more vocally demanding, but acting still matters.

If you seriously doubt it just google Por Tí Seré Lyrics, print it and take it to some Spanish speaker you may know, he or she wont have any problem reading it and confirming its the Cervantes´ language.
