Politicizing economics to the details of fiscal legislation is exactly the core mistake of american politics. "Economic conservatism" is as much as a dead end as its ideological counterpart, precisely because settling on any ideology does not neccessarily result in good economic policies. You need engineering skills to build a bridge, not political rhetoric. The idea that practical solutions will follow from affirming some political ideology, including libertarianism, is just inverted statism.
That's the difference between the old conservatives (Barry Goldwater, for example) and the new conservatives -- Fantasy. Old school conservatives were about practicality and osterity. New school conservatives are about a fantasy-based version of reality that sounds pretty, but which is ugly in it's attempted execution. Old school conservatives trully were about cutting budgets and spending less. New school conservatives are spend, spend, spend.
And our spending ballooned exceedingly after the economic decline of the early 1990's. The economic balloon inflated after Clinton was elected into office and from 1993 to 2000, that led to further unchecked spending on both the government and the citizenry.
SA is right, Reagan's additions to the civic religion have put us in the hurt bag.
SA and Buchanan are partly right but need to understand this crisis is not going to explode Wall Street or other powerful elites like the Military Industrial Complex. They will bail themselves out and our declining wealth will be redistributed to them.
I enlisted in the Navy while Reagan was president. It was then when I became a life-long Libertarian, seeing the vast amount of money spent for little in return. I vowed after 4 years to never work for the government again. 22 years later I have kept my vow and now work against the federal government every day.
Reagan's mission was simple: destroy the Soviet Union. Based on our capitalist system we could afford to outspend the USSR. After the demise of Communism it was up to the Government to then cut spending. Seeing how Reagan was able to increase revenues Congress used that as an excuse to grow government. Reaqan's simple, eloquent approach was turned into a beastial defecit by a Liberal/Neocon Congress. I have my differences with Reagan, but this wasn't his doing.
When Reagan ran in 1980 he promised repeatedly to balance the budget. He did start doing that nonsense for the reason you listed, kill the USSR. Bush 1 just failed to realize with the USSR gone that sort of fiscal (economic, foreign) policy was obsolete.
However Reagan also encouraged people to 'spend' to prop up the economy. Combine that with credit cards, home mortgages, and other things... well. Disaster.
We're all going to have to think about what REAL WEALTH is. The days of the nicely manicured front lawns are over. Folks should think about tilling them up and growing their own food. Buy heirloom organic seeds and unfortunately, you might want to purchase some storable food.
I also want to urge folks to think about creating their own LOCAL CURRENCY as soon as possible. Check out Ithaca Hours or Liberty Dollars or something like it. Cheers,
Excellent vid, and I was wondering when you would address this problem. I know it's not too likely that you'll answer this but what's your opinion on the proposed $700 billion bail out for the banks?
Funny that the GOP leadership now is falling all over itself to promote massive socialism. I find nothing at all resepectable about them calling Dems socialists and then practicing red economics on an even grander scale than the Dems could ever imagine. I think the political structure of 300 million people and occupied lands around the world is just unsustainable. What replaces the Empire will be very interesting to see - hopefully something more sound, smaller and moral.
McCain boasted that Carly Fiorina did a great job at HP, 20,000 people out of work and got paid the bargain price of 45 million as a reward for doing it.
She knows how to make Migrant Farm Hands out of Collage Grads, just the right type of workers that America needs to support our economy.
McCain the Great Brain, why he even graduated in the top of the bottom 5 in his School on Military Management and Knows first hand how to interfere and cut threw the Red Tape associated with Big Government.
How can someone who seems to be fairly smart, watch something as dumb as wrastling? I watched a little bit when I was young but never thought it was all that great. And I was always smart enough to know it was fake. How can Rick the dick Flare be 1 of your hero's? Dont get me wrong! I enjoy your videos! I just dont get the love for wrastling! I just have always thought that it catered to the stupid people in our country. Kinda like Jerry Springer does.
It's a guy soap opera. I used to think it was stupid too, until I joined the marines. We would get together and watch it.....while we bet the hell out of eachother. After that, it was interesting to watch a couple grown men put drama into a fighting match. Of course, it's scripted. But, so are fights on movies. And most people don't complain about how movies are fake. But, with wrastlin' they are doing it live. And many times with far greater athleticism than anything you can find in Hollywood.
Oh yea! No disrespect to anyone who likes wrastlin', I just can't see the Southern Avenger digging something as off the wall as that is. Thank you for you service.

Here's mine.
Since this is a credit crunch for companies, why not loan the money to companies that manufacture and operate solely in the USA AND use e-verify?
That way citizens can afford those mortgages, buy the products they produce and grow the USA economy.

Great video - it's funny how the Democrats attribute economic conservatism to what is economic LIBERALISM.

Bret IS the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Hell, it was Flair Bret made tap out for his first WWF title win.

Regardless of which of the 2 main candidates win (unless, hopefully, someone else does!:), I don't see how either will help this situation.
What do you think will need to happen with either of those 2 as the winner?
