  • This is all a farse. There is no Embargo, Cuba traded with the US a total close to $800 million Dollars in 2009. So where is the Embargo? What happens is that Cuba want open credit, thats it.

  • The major problem Cuba has IS the embargo. Life there will be good when they have economic safety.

  • @Tsukae The rest of the world is trading and investing in Cuba. Because one country refused to trade with them, cannot be the cause of their misery. The govt hordes all the resources it trades and uses the embargo as an excuse.

  • @br0nzepen Nooo they cant trade past American waters, and they cant access their foreign bank accounts cos they are frozen.Theres billion and billions in em. Even my country only restricts me to 2 litre bottles of rum and 50 cigars its unfair.

The world is missing out on the best Rum on the planet.

  • LIES all lies. I lived there and the most accurate word that comes to mind, as far as Cuban life, is HELL. The utter silence and depression hurt me to my core. Like these women narrating, I believed all of this stuff prior to my own experience, but it really is propaganda and these students are being used as political pawns. The worst part is the young Cubans, whom I had many as firends. One told me that there is no life for him in Cuba.

  • The only ones that can change that situation are cubans themselves, not the hypocrites in Miami. They pushed for an embargo for fifty years, it hasn't work so far... lift the embargo put your exile pride up your ass

  • Yes,the govt use doctors to deliver care to other poor nations y I applaud that with politics aside y I will never question motives, because they help many, but it still is what it is and that cannot be denied.Even the staunchest defenders(all foreigners)of the Castro regime must cry and lament the suffering of the Cuban people,if not publicly, then in solitude and silence, because no matter how liars try to obscure the truth, life there is sad and there is simply no room or air to breathe, its HELL

  • I will never forget his happiness and his words. He said, "now everything is possible and my life will be good." I could write a book, but I'll close with this: Cubans ARE oppress by the hands of their own govt. The majority of them desperately want to leave, but are not allowed. Depression in Cuban is beyond words. Unfortunately, these young women speaking have no idea what their talking about, based on their days of vacationing there. Try living there. Life in Cuba IS as bad as it seems

  • @MONTESWEDEN2007 I have just come back from Cuba too and I have had many frank and open conversations with cubans in Varedero and Habana. And I have to say...Your abusing your liscence to comment by laying it on a bit to thick.. You cant say someone on tv having a different view from you is because they are repressed just like I cant say that you was just having a conversation with someone who was just telling you what you wanted to hear....

  • Many Cubans sadly suffer from alcoholism and it became apparent to me why. The sadness and utter sense of hopelessness is overwhelming. Watch any video here about Cuban hospitals and you will see for yourself. YES, the hospitals there are that run-down and lacking. I remember running into a friend in Habana one day and he ran up to me giddy with joy and proceeded to say that he married a girl from Slovenia and would be leaving Cuba for good in one week, to join her in Slovenia.

  • Ngatfield sorry, you are beyond repairs. This is my last comment since you are not worth replying. Go to Cuba, stay there for a short while and then come back to this forum and tell the world how wonderful and profound is your dictator.

  • In reply to Ngatfield. In a totalitarian regime, common people like you and me have no saying, the brutality of the regime is the one that controls everyones life and also the economy, so where is the economic interaction you are talking about it? You have to live there in order to understand what I am saying.Jackasses also exist in your world.

  • This in reply to Ngatfield. I'am not deluded, I was born & raised in Cuba, I know more about the situation than you seems to know. Here are facts for you to know about the "Real Embargo"

  • As long as the motherfucking bush is still in the office ..there will be lifting the embargo!!...Bush cares about isreali !!

  • As long as the motherfucking bush is still in the office ..there will be lifting the embargo!!...Bush cares about isreali !!

  • My family on my mother's side is Cuban. Cuba can trade with any nation it likes, as long as it isn't the US. Thank Fidel and socialism, or communism for your poverty. In 2005 Cuba...imported $6.9 billion, ranking 87 of 226 countries. Its major export partners are the Netherlands 18.5%, Canada 18.5%, China 16%, Bermuda 14.1%, Spain 5.1%; major import partners are Venezuela 27%, China 15.8%, Spain 9.7%, Germany 6.5%, Canada 5.6%, Italy 4.4%, US 4.4%

  • The one good aspect of the embargo is that depriving Cuba of American fast food outlets means Cubans are less obese and live longer!

  • This embargo needs to end soon because the Cubans have suffered many years of a stagnant economy with no development. Denying a country to trade with others is horrible. You Americans, imagine that your trade with China and Mexico was embargoed, will your country develop? Well an embargo to Cuba-USA trade does affect Cuba that much actually. I from Puerto Rico support and end to the Cuban Embargo.

  • Do you all know about the new North American Union?

its a union with USA, Canada and Mexico which will affect this even worse.

  • USA is gay.

  • yes we have a lot of gays but you should't say the whole USA is gay...just say the bush administration is gay..and trust me most americans love cuba !! IT'S just the few and powerful jews in the office!!

  • All you have to do is ask Russia, China and most european countries who have lended money to Cuba if they ever got paid. You know what the answer is, they have not even got paid for the interest on their credit, much less for the principal money they have lended to Cuba. It is not the embargo "STUPID", It is the cuban dictatorship, wake up.

  • What most people don't realize in this old "siren songs" about the embargo is that behind all this rethoric, the real thruth is that the cuban government is looking for USA banks suckers to subsidize their economy.

  • The Cuban people suffers not because of the U.S. embargo but because the brutal regime that controls the life of Cubans in every front. When the Cuban government wants to buy US products, Canadian or otherwise, they use their profits from the Apartheid system of hotels they are presently running and buy the goods they want to buy in the open market.

  • satago you are deluded if you think the US embargo is in place solely because Cuba is controlled by a dictator. The US has shown no hesitation in the past in actively supporting dictators and revolutionary terrorism in south and central America. The embargo is in place because they just dont like this particular dictator.

  • Where is the blockade?

June 16 - During the first 6 months of this year, the sale of food items by the United States to Cuba amounted to US$254.7 million, a new record.

Just this past April, Alimport, the Cuban government food import entity, purchased US$82 million from American suppliers. This was also the highest amount ever purchased by Almport in a single month, since these type of transactions were authorized in 2001.

  • But the food in Cuba continues to be rationed, because the rationing has nothing to do with the US embargo.

Food rationing is one of the tools that the totalitarian regime in Cuba has been using since the beginning of the "robolution" to keep the people under control.

  • But the apologists, who always find an excuse for anything that the Castro brothers do, the ignorant and the useful idiots, will continue to blame the embargo for the lack of food in Cuba.

  • "man does not live by bread alone"...food is not the issue im pressing here. U.S. Citizens and businesses are restricted in their interaction with cuban economic entities, depriving Cuban citizens of a crucial source of legitimate investment. But I guess jackasses who always find fault in an ideological system that they dont share will always maintain the legitmacy of punishing the many to pressure individuals.

  • Also, read my original comment - the fact that i labeled Castro as a dictator should be a pretty strong indication that im not an apologist. I'm just saying it is foolish to place all the blame on either side as the responsability is shared, albeit inequally.

  • The embargo would have worked like dynamite after the fall of the USSR in the 90s if Canada and Western Europe wound not have come in and put billion$ on Castro's pockets. Communist Eastern Europe fell because it was a collective pressure. Castro has always pimped Cuba and now add Chavez. It just shows how irrelevant the UN truly is.

  • The communist regime has lost $4 billion not the Cuban people who are legally deprived of economic freedom and private property by the regime. If the lift of the embargo would in any way weaken the tyranny then Castro would not be the first one asking for its end. Look, Castro got BILLION$ from USSR and now the entire world does business with him. Has this changed anything for the decrepit misery in Cuba? NO, it has just financed the regime that truly slaves the Cubans.

  • The embargo isn't perfect. There are US products in Cuba. Cuba's problem isn't its being prevented from buying from the US; Cuba's problem is its inability to afford buying from anywhere.

  • you mean to tell me that the U.S will automatically lift the embargo because "supposedly" to them he is making progress? hahahaha, this is laughable!

  • End the Embargo , but end Communism and Castro regime too.

  • Soooo....What has this embargo done for anyone? Cuba and US alike? When are they going to end it? When Castro dies? I think they should bank on the future and lift it now. Why wait till he dies? Money is being left on the table here.

  • end the world wide dictarships supported by the united states!!!!!

  • i agree, we are trying to imperialize are ways of capitalism onto cuba, the U.S. beleives communism is wrong and cannot work but the only reason it is not working is because of our embargo.

  • the u.s doesn't believe communism is wrong , they know it works and brings freedom and independence to countries from corporate america thats why they are against it, that why they will spend billions on anti-communism propaganda

  • Whoever supports the embargo hates freedom.

  • I agree. Why? because as U.S citizens we are banned to go to Cuba or else we face fines and jail time. Who said we have freedom here? They blame Castro for putting people into jail while we get harrased with this Embargo limitation as well. Freedom means been able to move about anywhere you want!

  • yesss a lift on the embargo would benefit the US aswell of course. but i dont think it will ever happen, the US government is absolutely terrified of socialism becuase they knew if it came to america they would lose all their money, and all their power.

  • Oh please! Come on! I lived in Cuba and believe me, it's not the same. I'm against the embargo but to say there's no freedom in the USA, as compared to Cuba, it's not only inacurate, but it's just stupid. If you speak spanish, search "antunez".

  • The Cuban embargo only hurts the Cuban people, not Castro. I feel for the poor Cuban people who are suffering. I do not support any leader or government that mistreats it's people, if by dictatorship or elected....it is the still same. What we need is freedom from proverty, drugs, crime, racism & hatred!

  • END THE EMBARGO!

  • END THE CUBAN DICTATURE

  • HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE!

  • Go Cuba!
