It made it up to Queensland too. Was just as red late in the afternoon. You could feel it clogging up your nostrils and in your eyes. It's clogged up the fly screens too leaving a red coating all over them. And all the cars driving around had a coat of dust on them and even the cat was trying to get away from it and get inside. Was pretty unreal. It's not even summer yet!

I woke up at 6am looked outside and for a while there thought i was an extra in the movie 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind', it was crazy. It was as bright as the middle of the day and just a spooky kind of orange. It was caused by dust being blown in from inland Australia. It rarely reaches the coast as the winds usually fade out but on this occasion they were unusually strong and persistent.

I would be interesting to do a survey of how many farmers were breaking their top soil in the winds in the last few days.

How much land was ploughed or raked for the promise of rain for the seasons crops?

Yes, but nobody wants to consider the fact that there are wind storms all year but in September all inland farmers are out in force raking and ploughing for the spring crops.

Every year its the same. but gets worse.

I first noticed it in the high winds of 76 driving to SA so many tractors with dust clouds behind them breaking the top soil and accumulating to a massive cloud that hit Melbourne a day later.

They plough to the clock and not the weather.

You're a goose. Droughts are a natural phenomenon and they existed way before European settlement and European farming practices began in Australia. But you should really apply for the top job at the bureau of meteorology and tell everyone that they've got it all wrong and clearly you know better.

I am not the only one to know this but like most people you just want to pass it of as just something that happens without fault

Nobody knows for sure that this drought was caused by human activity, so unless you are the world's authority on meteorology and environmental issues your breath is wasted here. My information source's are from the NSW Department of Environment Climate Change and Water. The DECCW.

The cause of this dust is from excessive land clearing in the far inland

The farmers are removing what they call "INS Invasive Native Scrub"

That is regrowth of the healing soil holding scab of native vegetation

TheNVact of 05 was introduced to stem this practise but has been limply enforced

An amendment is underway requiring farms to obtain a PVP (property vegetation plan) to remove INS.
