I had 2 or 3 crushes on straight boys over the time (never had other than straight friends and always boys), I always just wanted a best friend, because I didn't knew that I was gay at this time I didn't understand that my feelings for them were much more than in a normal friendship. After I finally found out of being gay only a few years ago (thanks to a lot of good coming out videos on youtube) I can explain myself a lot strange thnigs that happened to me in the past, including this.
My first real big crush was back when I was about 15 and this crush turned into an obsession which is why I dont crush too hard on people. Nowadays I have some crushes but nothing big lol xD

You being attracted to personality is not bizarre but, it is different and I like difference. There needs to be more people like you with that characteristic. Me included...but, I am not as shallow as the people I grew up knowing.

My longest lasting and current crush is actually on a guy that a friend of mine told me she was crushing on. That might be weirder lol

This whole irrational crush thing is the major component of why most entertainers feel the need to stay in the closet for their careers.

So as a gay man, you do not have the "teen girl gene" that makes people have crushes on those they do not know.
I think I am like you because I have never developed a crush on a stranger, e.g., actors, etc., even if they are unbelievably hot!
Recent exceptions may be for some YouTubers as I have gotten to know their personalities through their videos.
