  • He doesnt mean "talk like KERMIT" in the literal way, he means "OPEN" you throat,

If you don'tlike this man's tips, then look for another video, you dont have to be so rude

  • IF Kermit has such a good singing voice, why doesn't he quit his job at the muppets and become an opera singer?

  • Trolling?

  • jajajajajaaaa, que suba más vídeos así !!! qué derroche de par por doquier, espectacular el C agudo !!!

  • Omg no no no I'm sorry but no

  • No no man. Please do not teach this to people, you are putting their health in danger.

  • Awesome! I can see and hear that Miranda is your vocal coach! Wonderful! ;-) Next lessons will you please cover how your Kermit voice is attached to your eye-brows and stomach muscles? Keep the hits coming!! SEARCH: Miranda Free Voice Lesson

  • Not good advice. Another red flag is that this user has uploaded Bocelli videos!

  • troll

  • Haters gonna hate, man you're awesome and your teaching method made me laugh.

  • Bravo, you are great theacher... In few words... "Kermit" Bravo...

  • Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge, from my part I really enjoyed the video and learned the point!, Thanks again!

  • u dont have to talk like kermit.thats bull.u just have to develop a rich tone.u mentioned "using your throat to sing"..ok well thats incorrect.u dont want to sing from ur throat dude that'll just trash ur vocal cords, plus it doesnt sound beautiful.im sorry for what ever gave u that horrific idea.

  • This has to be a joke!!!! This guy doesn't have a clue of how to sing!! You need to rely on the diaphragm for support, not the stomach muscles. His voice is so forced with absolutely no resonance. Anyone who takes his advice has to be out of his or her mind.

  • I was directed to this page by a friend who firmly believed that you were posting this as a joke or to be campy. The scary part is that I think you actually seem to think you are serious. Must more frightening is to think that musical theatre production (amplified, via broadway in "Phantom of the Opera") IS actually operatic production. There are multiple things you are doing in this first clip which are really inappropriate to the voice, much less actually GOOD technique in any way.

  • nice effort though, think you need to go to a qualified techer for more improvement, there's only so far we can go on our own

  • lol, oh ma gawsh, you sound the owners of the opera house in the phantom of the opera, lol, remember the phantom told them that their place is in an office, not the arts

  • lmao

  • is that John Cena ?

  • Coming from someone who just recovered from vocal nodes.. Make sure you learn from an actual teacher, and not just people who sound good. Because sounding good and doing it right aren't the same thing in singing.. trust me.

  • sounds terrible.

  • Sorry but this is not how to do it for very long. He even tells you at .41 that he doesn't do it professionally. It would be like me being a good shot at the range and then trying to put out videos teaching people how to be a sniper. Basic knowledge that the layman is not informed enough to know better is nothing compared to professional or expert knowledge. Be good to yourselves and don't trash your voice doing what is being done here.

  • .Sorry, but this man is pressing on his vocal cords way too much. His sound is suitable for musical theatre, but not for opera. There is so much more to vocal technique than singing using "Kermit" launch. The voice must float on the breath and the registers must blend. This young man must investigate Bel Canto methods because there is no short cut to beautiful singing, attained through the thorough study of a good technique. Pressing in this manner is harmful to the larynx and misleading.

  • haha your funny!

  • your goood

  • your goood

  • your goood

  • to talk like kermit you have to have tension in the throat. as well closing up partly the throat. this will destroy a persons voice or end up with nods. if you really want to learn opera find a really good bel canto instructor. and becareful with that as well. cause many people try to say they teach bel canto when they dont. just becareful who you listen to. you only have one voice and one throat.

  • Wow, who would've thought that you'd have to do Kermit's voice to sing opera? Thats interesting, I will try it.

  • Wow, who would've thought that you'd have to do Kermit's voice to sing opera? Thats interesting, I will try it.

  • Is to hard for me man..

  • Actually, though people may think this sounds silly, these kinds of singing exercises and other weird exercises really do help with singing. Sometimes you have to pay a teacher $60-$75 to hear some extremely weird exercises, but they work. Interestingly enough --- and this exercise is hardly strange compared to others out there!! Good job man!

  • Using your soft palate is the number one thing voice teachers have to fix right off because they have been told otherwise. Not to mention your forcing your voice by constricting airflow, plus you're sliding up to every note.

  • my voice is way to deep to do kermits voice but ill work on it, thanks

  • Excellent.

  • I'm sorry but you can't sing opera...you're pushing it too much beyond your limits..

  • @agnelovesya Why don't you check out lesson number 2?

  • I hope your kidding

  • you rock love the popes

  • What you do is completely wrong. You are singing throaty, the voice should be controlled and supported by the stomache. The darker sound will add itself over the years by training. Not by changing your own voice into a fake, wannabe Kermit opera sound. You will damage it by doing that.

  • @MasknickWell I think the idea is to get the diaphragm open. :) Sometimes I sound like Kermit when I'm sitting straight the way I should (or standing). But I do think that you can sound like Kermit and NOT achieve the goal too. I thought he sounded quite lovely(especially for a non professional!), didn't you? I don't think his goal is to teach someone how to sing well enough to join an opera, just a quick way to sound the way you want. I know what you mean, but I also thought he did a fine job.

  • If you want to learn to sing opera, perhaps you should consult with someone who has actually been paid to do so? This guy is a disaster.

  • =.= showoff...

  • he looks like the guy from dumb and dumber omgggg!

  • Soft Palate issues. You are teaching people to kill their voice.

  • i dont sing opera myself...i believe if you want to be a strong singer, weather it be in pop rock whatever. Opera is the building blocks to have a great voice

  • This isn't opera! And it's dangerous to fake a voice. You shouldn't try to sound like Kermit when singing, everyone has their own sound. It has to be natural. Forcing is dangerous! If you want to learn opera singing in a safe way, find a good teacher! There are many wrong vids on youtube, although I think they mean well, just like this guy.

  • @spenzur Actually, it isn't changing your voice at all. What this does is pushing the larynx down, which is apparently very essential to opera. Then again, I'm no expert.

Phantom of the Opera reference FTW.

  • @MasterAnemos Copying Kermit doesn't push the larynx down. Try it yourself, it will stay at the same spot. Try to yawn, than the larynx will get a lower position.

  • @spenzur What you say is true. He is singing throaty, the voice should be controlled and supported by the stomache. Not by changing your own voice into a fake, wannabe opera sound. You will damage it by doing that.

  • I have a question, is Kermit produced using your chest voice?

  • very dramatic lol

  • great voice

  • you must play in musicals!! =D

enter brittans got talent or an another talentshow you sure will win!! =D

  • is it a bad thing that I felt embarrassed for the guy?? I mean he is supposed to teach me how to do the kermit and he just sits there and sings for more than half the vid.... but thanks dude kermit it is!

  • Wooooww for once in my life... I got a nice vibrato!

  • Rubbish, don't listen to this madman,

  • I'm presuming this is either done for a joke or a bet! If it is serious then all he is teaching you is how to raise your larynx and constrict the throat.

  • Anyone can SING. its just the matter if you put any effort into it or not :) before i couldnt sing high notes at all, but now, i can sing them. it took awhile, but it was all worth it. :D thanks for the tip's, it helped!

  • Can't sound like kermit.....I sound like Stitch from lilo and stitch though! xDD

  • hi john

  • @Sonjelby there is no i. I said plzz as is "please" run away its called an abbreviation. :)

  • @xxleoxkaufmanxx Thank you for being polite. I wish you well in your quest for learning how to sing opera.

  • To SING OPERA you must first have the TALENT! Secondly, if anyone is getting tips for this man plzz run away. I understand some people may want to sing or take private voice just for the fun of it but if your teacher is telling you to do this crap..RUN AWAY!

  • @xxleoxkaufmanxx What's "pizz run away"?

  • I want to sing like this D:

  • @megxme THis poor guy ,,,talk about singing opera...then sings from a broadway musical....

  • well your kermit technique is basically similar to true singing technique in that your voice does need that wide sound that your kermit technique has. but you need to to be able resonate in your head and chest voice which something that doing the kermit doesnt alow. listen more to elvis' voice. his voice was very wide and reasonant. im not trying denounce your technique im just giving my opinion. Great high "C" by he way.

  • People get a sense of humor! And besides that was a good high C in min 3:36

  • Not opera:( more like musical theater. Good try though I guess.

  • sounds completely horrible, youre aiming for a completely wrong sound. dont call this "opera" because its shit. call it whatever you want, but even comparing this shit to Bel Canto is a mortal sin

  • u first must to have the talent to sing.. then learm how to sing like the opera./..

  • u first must to have the talent to sing.. then learm how to sing like the opera

  • u first must to have the talent to sing.. then learm how to sing like the opera

  • I think the description of kermit isn't good advice on singing operatically because not everyone does hte kermit voice the same, some people (like me) naturally tighten up in there and overdo it and sound borderline like yoda their first try, but yoda and kermit are very similar.

I think a better analogy is Patrick from sponge bob.

  • I think maybe it sounds off, because the recording device is not good enough to handle the sound. ^__^ I enjoyed this though.

  • i sound like elmo when i do it :( lol

  • im 15 and i can just do it with out thinking lol i just looked at the and did it lol

  • great voice! you ROCK

  • great voice! ecnor those bad comments your better then them you ROCK im triying to sing opera thanks to you i have learned to sing beautifully

  • ahhaha youre awesome!! i love talking like the a kermit now. LOL

  • That sounds really good!! You need a better mic though.

  • Hello (:

I watched your video, and I was astonished! I have tried for a couple of years to sing opera, and I am finally taking lessons, but you said you taught yourself, and your voice is wonderful! You definitely have the potential to become professional and make it big. I was wowed by this, and I wanted to let you know that I really like your voice. Thanks for the Kermit tip (:

    Sincerely ~ Me (:

  • your voice reminds me of Peter Skarsgaard... :)

  • What does a female Kermit sound like???

  • if thats not opera ill quit lissen to metal

  • lol dude thats awesome

  • The Kermit Technique? That's insane.. false resonance....throaty...it feels like you are in control but the sound is hideous... Kermit was a muppet not an opera singer...

    Ciao

  • I think he's Swedish. Also, he's full of shit.

  • @Kvntalicious hey dont talk shitt about swedish guys+ he is from usa it says on his channel

  • im sorry i watched this video lol not everyone is gonna be an operatic singer or even a musician and i just gave four minutes of my time to someone who thinks he found the quick route to the result of years of training lol nto even possible. but it was funny : D

  • This is the first time I've seen someone give an operatic technique that seemed absurd enough to actually work properly. (If you've listened to vocal teachers, you'll know that we have some of the most silly techniques ever to learn something serious)

  • You would make a great Firman! Ha ha love phantom and you are a great singer! I want to play Christine someday so this was very helpful thank you!

  • You should take the "kermit technique" up a level. After doing it, open the palate at the back, like a yawn.

Also, Premadona is broadway, not opera.

But you have an ok voice.

  • i thought that was pretty awesome

  • Thankyou so muchh!!!:D i really wanna learn!:D

  • I thought it sounded nice. Not opera, but still. It's not bad singing. He has a powerful voice.

  • Wow, this was hilarious

  • @megxme Can't spell opera

  • @Sonjelby seriously huh lol!

  • So is practically faking a deeper voice and adding so much vibrato right?? Very simple.

  • @Natthix That's kinda the idea. It's about how you pronounce your words.

  • OMG, kermit is SOOOOOO not what you want, and NOBODY in Phantom of the Opera sings like that EVER... your palate is too depressed, hence the KERMIT property, and for god sake STOP sliding and bending the notes upwards, that just doesnt happen, i mean fair enough your'e alright but your tone is forced, and not 'bel canto' as youre trying to achieve here, maybe revisit this song when you're voice has matured a little more

  • nice high pitch jonathon

  • @coloraturatenor if you were a real professional you wouldnt express your self like that, i think you are the big your the shit, get lossed

  • wtf is this sh*t? I hope no one is following this guy's advice.

  • I love that you are trying to teach opera, and yet... you sing "The Phantom of the Opera" which.. sadly... is not even an opera at all. Way to go....

  • @will2btenor You are right. It's a novel.

  • god, hope you're not having any students!!!

  • your techniques are correct but you should work more on your voice.

  • Nice, can you use this for pop?

  • Oh wow, absolutely not. You are teaching people a completely incorrect technique. You're closing your throat off when you should be opening it completely and leaving it entirely relaxed. That "kermit" sound is a false operatic sound. It's what bad singers use when they think they're imitating good singers. You should take this video down before someone ruins their voice with it. : \

  • hahahha thats really pretty, i which i could come to my singing class with my teacher with voice ingolata and falsetto spinto that`s what you`ve thaught here and not get out of the class without my head, so that`s nice of you to try to teach something or show the way you think opera is sang besides opera is not a techinque. But anyway, that`s not a real technique; create the space for singing, get the apoggio, the impostation, the larynx, and the palate are really hard things to do. Not this!

  • this was the cutest thing ever

  • you should post a part 2 on this!!

  • wow!!!Dude! ur like so freakin awesome!!!!

i lovee how u did part of prima donna!!!

    i like you

  • Cool technique! Thanks for sharing! You're a good singer and I love how you broke into singing Prima Donna! I love that song!

  • Wow! That's good. Question im a girl and want to know how to do it higher how do I do that good.

  • @coloraturatenor Fucking haters... you guys got too much time to type hating things in. Get a life, and go to school. and get some friends... Asshole. This guy is wonderfull! and you destroys it.... asshole (again )

So, you a something to do now right? Pack your things up, let us hear what you got. Asshole ( again again )

  • Bow wow. My dog sings like you

  • Holy crap! You're right! The kermit is the key. haha. That's hilarious but awesome. I can hear it. Cool teaching approach. Thanks for sharing.

  • I kinda learned a little opera when I was a bit younger(I'm 14 now) from Phantom of the Opera, and grew up singing to Charlotte Church. This helped TONS. Thank you!

  • I LOVE HOW U STARTED SINGING PRIMA DONNA FROM PHANTOM!!!!! :D THAT MADE MY DAY LOL

  • Where is lesson number 2? With the NG! Come on Sonjelby!

I thinks it is a very interesting way to teach, even though it isn´t the "classical-traditional" way. This 1) was so easy 2) it can wake up some resonators ...and then you can take classes with a "formal" teacher.

  • YOUre amazing and what you said was fruitful :D

  • i was thinking 'what the hell are you doing?'

until you started singing prima donna, then i got goosebumps. :D

  • @coloraturatenor if so.. why are you watching this kinda videos?

  • @coloraturatenor

Haven't you heard about constructive critics yet?

As I noticed that you're french, I thought that maybe I could answer you in the language you understand best (allusion to your erroneous english) :

Je vous connais les francais, moi. Incapable d'écrire en un anglais correct mais

toujours en train de lancer des attaques verbales. Quel arrogance! En lisant tes commentaires inappropriés on sait tout de suite que t'es un hurluberlu.

    bonne journée petit bonaparte

  • Dude. I'm sorry but you need a LOT of work. You are destroying your voice with this technique. If you are serious about singing then get perfessional training. If you can't afford it then go to your local Catholic or Episcipol church and join the choir. BTW This isn't a hate. Good luck

    John

  • I think a better example for what you're trying to do (lower larynx, raised soft palate deal) is the "patrick" voice from sponge bob, although naturally not lowering the larynx THAT low and not that breathy, but roughly similar deal

  • There is no such thing as "the kermit technique" and if you look at any professional tenor (which I assume you are), they don't sing the way you just explained about talking. YOU don't even sing that way. You simply cannot go up that high comfortably with your throat scrunched up in a bunch like kermit. But nonetheless YOU SURE CAN SING!! haha.

  • @Arfat He did use it. When I speak in the Kermit voice, my throat opens and the back of my tongue arches up.

YOU don't even sing that way. You simply cannot go up that high comfortably with your throat scrunched up in a bunch like kermit. But nonetheless, you can sing. Just don't mislead people on youtube. And if you decide to teach, learn from more than one teacher pls.

  • @coloraturatenor I think it sounds good. And he said, that he isnt professional. Keep going, dude!

  • I'm sorry, but that's just nasty!

  • Hey man, this post is really funny!!! Keep it up and you could be the next Miranda Sings!!! If you don't yet know Miranda Sings, you should definitely look her up on Youtube!!! :D

  • you should know that your "real" singing does show on this video and I'd call it sloppy. I want to know what you really CAN do and what your vocal pedigree is.

  • Ok, Johnathan, first off... you're cute. Now, I am aware that this is probably some kind of joke and you really have studied somewhere. That said, you do realize that from the moment you start to speak on this you're compressed as a mofo. It's impressive that you can manhandle your voice through all of that tension and still have high notes but I get the impression that you take comfort in knowing that you intend this as a joke and you haven't really shown what you can do. If that's true

  • you should do a video of you singing a whole opera song but a little less loud and make sure youre voice is softer.

  • does this apply to sopranos??

  • it was helpful..juz ignore some stupid haters

  • do more opera pleaase, your so good. Love your voice. I always wanted to learn opera(:

  • This is so off base, I don't know where to begin. Kermit the Frog? Really?!? Trying to sound like Kermie has the effect of raising the larynx...An absolute no-no in classical singing. Especially for men. Keeping the larynx stable is the key to the high range.

A singer should sing with his/her own natural voice and not try to sound like someone else. Please leave the voice lessons to someone who knows what they're talking about!

  • @goldenthroat86 First of all, when I do Kermit, my larynx lowers. Secondly, he's basically just teaching you to cover your voice, which all male opera singers do.

  • male opera singers dont cover their voices. they sing. dont even know why im wasting my nuggets of knowledge on people who think they know but dont lol. watch pavarotti. nuff said lolol.

  • @coloraturatenor For NON professionals, this is a huge help! Just because you think you're better than everyone else! There's a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Just saying. Btw Thanks dude, huge help :) Really helps you open your throat :D x

  • he kinda sounds like john madden

  • My jaw dropped. Still trying to find it...

  • @coloraturatenor Listen, I don't know who you are, I don't know if you can sing opera, I don't even know if you're human... you could be a gorilla typing for all I know, but listen up Koko... the kermit technique is here to stay. You can go on talking about your "head voice", quite frankly its giving a lot of people a headache. Opera is for the people, not for the privileged few. Kermit technique is changing lives all over the world. A boy in Sudan was saved by scaring lions away with it.

  • @Sonjelby

    well said, great lesson

  • @coloraturatenor If you're a pro opera singer, than why are you looking for beginner lessons on youtube?

  • @SpiderXxPirate

just because a pro singer looks at a video that is supposed to be a voice lesson doesn't mean they want voice lessons. It's entirely possible that someone who saw it forwarded it to him and said, "can you believe this jackass?" What bothers me is that Jonathan is JUST close enough to right about a few things (a FEW) that some might take him seriously.. THAT'S good for the state of the arts in America. Also, FYI - to the general public - Phantom of the Opera is NOT opera.

  • @SpiderXxPirate HAHAHAHAH stupid coloraturatenor

  • You should be a comedian! but it looks like you're straining, so you are probably using incorrect technique..

  • TRY OUT FOR AMERICAN IDOL

  • STOP SAYING A

  • @coloraturatenor Don't be a hater, yo. Let's hear what you've got!

  • @coloraturatenor how i agree.

  • Was fürn Mist man in 4 Minuten erzählen kann... :-D

  • Hey you should do a cover of Miss Sarsjevo by U2 with the opera part. It would be pretty sweet.

  • Umm... but I'm a chick .. Ya see my problem is that I wanna be able to sing a really high and powerful note ! Like a lady Opera singer .. anyways

  • lol

  • I do that voice all the time when I do puppet shows for kindergarteners haha. This is easier for me than I thought. I thought I would be overwhelmed by learning the basics of opera singing. I'm actually copying you ! lol I feel like a psychooooo hahaha

  • omg idiot!

  • BAHAHAHA! Good stuff.

  • um, I don't want to be rude, but singing like kermit is the opposite of what you want to do when you are singing opera. It squashes your vocal chords and will ruin your voice. The way that you reach those high notes is to learn the difference between your head voice (or high voice) and your chest voice (used to sing the lower notes) You want your throat and mouth open as much as possible. Hence, why singing like kermit is NOT good.

  • @dawnrood I doubt you know anything about it, since you are not even aware that you don't have vocal chords. I did the Kermit voice, and it doesn't "squash" anything. He's just teaching covering.
