@tsharpmac420 Our health care is not the best available in the world. For the average citizen, it's the worst in the developed world. @tsharpmac420: I wasn't talking to you, but okay. I am willing to debate THE FACTS with anyone. Problem with Tea party people, they do not have the facts, only Republican think tank ideology.
@tsharpmac420: Republican think tanks manufacture ideology to save the rich paying a little more in taxes. That's all we ask, they pay a few percent more. The least they can do, after what they did to the economy. I don't need a think tank to tell me that. It's called common sense.
@judyleasugar97 a few percent more what is it like the top 10% of earners pay 50% of the money the fed gov takes in,while the lowest 50% of earners pay no raxes to the fed gov, Its a lie to say republicans only want to save the rich from taxes the bush era tax cuts were tax cuts for ALL americans, the problem isnt greedy rich people its the greedy federal government
@tsharpmac420 The reason why the top 10% pay so much is because they control 30% of the total economy. The top 20% controls over 80% the economy. The lowest 50% controls less than 1% of the economy. If you collected income taxes from them, the government's budget would be nothing.
Taxes exist for the sake of redistributing wealth in a fashion so that crap like this doesn't happen.
@tsharpmac420 Greedy rich people spend money on themselves. A well-sized government spends money on its people. We're one of the skimpiest people in the world with regards to tax revenues, and our lack of maintenance of our people and projects really shows. Our healthcare and pre-university education will continue to be among the worst in the developed world unless we change our attitude.
@pgunn01 dont even try to say the problem is we are not taxing enough, the problem is that the fed government has absolutly no clue on how to spend money effectivly, it has no problem throwing a fuck ton of money at a problem for 20 plus years with no success in solving said problem. ie war on drugs, public education, illegal immigration the list is enemurate and the only safe bet is that the government will massivly over spend on everything, we need to cut spending
@tsharpmac420 We are not taxing enough, *and* our campaigns are financed in a way that begets corruption. These are two separate problems. Cutting spending is not a solution, we'd just be starving our programmes and removing what value we still get from the state.
@pgunn01 to say that cutting spending is not a solution to out of control spending is a laughable concept, liberals only have one plan spend more money. Hey we are in prosperous economic times lets spend more money. Hey we are in a recession we need to spend more money. It dosnt matter whats going on we are just gonna throw money at the wall and some of our cronies like we did in the stimulus bill, which was really just stimulating our cronies who had "shovel ready jobs" lol yea its prety funny.
@tsharpmac420: The one who spent out of control is Bush. We are stuck with his tab: 2 wars, prescription drug plan and tax cuts for the wealthy, ALL UNPAID. Obama contributed the stimulus, but that kept us from falling into another Great Depression.
@tsharpmac420: How is Obama spending uncontrollably? He was saddled with 2 wars he didn't start, the prescription drug plan, tax cuts for the wealthy, unjustified subsidies for wealthy corporations, tax havens for the wealthy, all of these things instituted by the Republicans. For your information all of these things are actually spending, and Obama is not responsible.
@judyleasugar97 he was saddled with 2 wars, he said he would end 1 and we are still there. He said he would close gitmo, its still open, the prescription drug plan came in under budget, the wealthy wernt the only ones to get tax cuts. ALl these republican ideas needed bi-partisian support to pass. Democrats had a super majority, they could have ended all that shit, but they were to busy debating amongst themselves over health care and which cronies to stimulate.
@judyleasugar97 u try to say obama isnt at fault, is better than bush, and the dems are better than repubs which is a load of bullshit, they are all equally fucked, that is the only conclusion that can be made after looking at all the data at politifact
@tsharpmac420: I shiver to think how bad things would be if the Republicans were entirely in charge. Are you even aware of what is going on in Wisconsin and other states? That's only the tip of the iceberg of what these people want to do.
@judyleasugar97 states have to balance their budgets, so do citys, similar cuts to pensions and pay increases are being made in every state in america. Even big cities are having to do that shit, like Chicago and its mayor Rahm Emanuel.
@judyleasugar97 The problem is spending, what is going to happen to america and all those entitlement programs when the gov is paying over 50% of gdp on intrest payments alone? When you combine that with the retarded tax code and the massive inflation caused by ben bernakie's addiction to printing money.
@tsharpmac420: Some people don't listen. I said raise revenue by raising taxes on the wealthy a few percent. What it was under Clinton, you know, when we actually had a surplus?
@judyleasugar97 How long is it going to take to pay off the 14 tillion dollar debt by increasing the taxes on wealthy by a few percentage points? The problem is DC spening and a tax code that has had 20,000(not a typo) additions/amendments since the late 80s
@tsharpmac420: They could do it by raising taxes a few percent on millionaires and billionaires and ending subsidies to wealthy corporations. Also, end off shore tax havens. End all of the ways the rich are right now avoiding paying their fair share and the deficit would shrink dramatically.
@tsharpmac420 There will always be inefficiencies in any organisation, be it a corporation or a government. However, our government does not have a problem with "out of control" spending. It may, due to corruption, not always spend money on the right things - if we want to fix that, we need to have campaign finance reform. However, neither our spending levels nor our tax levels are problems per se.
@pgunn01 barak obama has already spent more than bush did in 8 years and dontt blame that on george bush, (they r equally at fault) barak obama is the one who lied and pushed for the corrupt cronie stimulus as well as a health care bill that dosnt do shit 2 fix the system, democrats had 2 pass something bc they couldnt afford the political consequnces associated with failing 2 pass another health care reform bill, which was echoed by both dem and repub strategist talking heads during the debate
@pgunn01 i do agree political corruption/money laundering is rampant and is destroying america, through massive defecit spending, if it keeps going at this rate we will be paying 100% of gdp in just intrest paymnents in no time. IT IS NOT JUST THE REPUBLICANS, IT IS BOTH PARTIES It is a sad day when the only city that has a booming houseing market is the seat of the america government. That is a clear sign that the federal government is to big and that the politicans r out of touch with the ppl
@pgunn01 Giving those watch dogs more money will do nothing to solve the problem if they take the word of the madoffs and big pharmas in america with out doing actual investigations untill people die or people lose most of their money. The only thing they are watching is hardcore porn
@pgunn01 I do agree that we need tax reform, we need to toss the whole code and start from scratch, its a huge problem when an indivual can go to 3 differnt tax professionals get three differnt answers and then a 4th differnt answer from the IRS after they pay their taxes
@tsharpmac420 So long as the replacement is still based on the principle that it is desirable to tax luxury levels of income much more heavily than taxing reasonable or necessity levels of income, I would be happy to see a new code.
Campaign finance reform is far more important than reforming the tax code though.
@pgunn01 i would eliminate the income tax for all, or atleast allow people to pay no income tax on the first 40k or 50k. As far as the corp taxes we need a flat rate that is competitive with the rest of the world as well as severly limiting subsides, there is no reason for massive corps like GE to pay next to nothing in taxes(around like 3%) and receive funds for R&D from the gov.
@tsharpmac420 I'd be fine with focusing the income tax on people earning above 40-50k. It might be nice to keep some minimal taxation for people below that to ensure a sense of civic duty and responsibility in fiscal policy though; large numbers of voters who pay no taxes whatsoever might make a mess of things.
I largely concur on subsidies. We need some ability to use fiscal policy to shape behaviour, but it should never amount to large corps paying negligible/no taxes.
@judyleasugar97 you need to open your eyes and take in the reality that the agenda of the far left in the democratic party has pissed off moderate dems, independents and those on the right, and who were the elected democrats that paid the price? The blue dogs who were not liberal in uber liberal districts.
@judyleasugar97 yea dems like barak obama in 08, who received money from many of the same corps that donated to john mcain except obama got 2-3 times more per donation
@judyleasugar97 i like the page about the top 10 richest member of congress 6 are democrats that spend massive sums of their own money and then try to spread the story that republicans get all money from corps, when in reality they are the ones that are out spending all
@judyleasugar97 i forgot to tell u the where u can find those pages open secret dot org, its not partisian and full of any and all political financing data, donations, personal wealth etc
The last true "Progressive" mind in America and the ONLY politician in D.C. I have ANY faith in. We could use a Progressive "Independent" Presidential run in 2012. Fuck Oboma he had his oppertunity. For too long the American public has let NITWITS from the Mid-West and Southern States DESTROY this country. It's time to put someone from the North Eastern States back in the WH. The rest of the country is totally INSANE. New England Patrioits for the win lol. Sen. Sanders you'd have my vote in 2012
@MichaelPAUSA there is no red or blue state, no red or blue region. A state that goes either red or blue n a presidential election is not a sign of the actual political diversity in every state. People who live in the country are red prodomintly christian, and take care of each other, people who live in urban cities are blue, realize the part of the cities pop that is living in poverty is so big that the only logical way 2help is by having a city, county, state or federal goverment provide aid
@tsharpmac420 " and he is a socialist the first openly socialist rep elected, he doesn't hide behind the terms progressive or liberal democrat"
Whats your point? America has always had certain segments of socialism. Are you suggesting that we would be much better off without Social security? I put $10,000 in the stock market four years ago, its now worth $ 9,600, is this the secure future you would have us? come on.
@mn8aol What you're babbling about would do massive and permanent damage to our nation, all out of the sick greed of the wealthy few. No matter WHAT else happens, the debt ceiling MUST be raised. As for "no tax increases" it's idiocy, the wealthy pay the lowest tax rate IN HISTORY while the debt rises, and far more importantly millions are in crushing poverty. The taxes need to be raised significantly. People on the right need to start thinking about the country and not just themselves.
wow i can only name 2 socialist that i have liked in the histroy of socialism before mr sanders said that social security is protected if the government defaulted today, those other socialist where lawernce odonnal who admits he is a socialist that dosnt hide behind the moniker of "progressive pussy" and adolf hitler bc he was awsome
@tsharpmac420 Wow, you're either truly evil, really stupid, or both. There was NOTHING "awesome" about Hitler, and Hitler was NOT a Socialist. Not even close.
And before you try the 7th grader stunt, NO, "National Socialism" is NOT the same as real Socialism. Hitler was far RIGHT, not left.
I wish that all of the principled politicians on both sides would start having some meetings separate from all the sixth-graders. Whether we agree with someone's politics, it's still better to have human beings in office rather than robots. Let's get Sanders, Kucinich, Ron Paul, folks like that, to put together a new plan for all of us and screw the 2012 election, which will be BS anyway. Our government is failing us.
Do it: throw them all off Social Security and Medicare. It will be their death knell. They're their own grave diggers, as Marx so eloquently said over 100 years ago. Yes, he's still relevant today kids.
@Stardusk Everyone knows we should balance the budget, theres a right way and a wrong way. I would like to lose twenty pounds, but I'm sure not going to cut off a leg. I'm willing to pay more taxes if it means we can go back to the financial stability of the Clinton years. but I agree, any deficit reduction plans that include equal cuts and taxes should be used for that purpose, and this should be monitored closely by a bi partisan committee. You realize the great REAGAN raised taxes.
Thank God for Bernie Sanders. The hard right's created this phony crisis so they can push more austerity, balance it all on the backs of the poor, cut vital programs and create more suffering so the rich can have a fatter tax cut. It's sick, it's wrong, it's immoral and the victims are too tired to fight back, they keep them fighting with one another over phony bullshit like marriage equality or race, the bosses love bigotry because if the workers unite, game over.
@glazierEd 1971 was the greatest default in the US when we got off the gold standard; we defaulted because everyone who had treasury bills who could get them redeemed in gold, could no longer do so. Huge default. We defaulted. Plain and simple and by continuously borrowing and raising the debt ceiling we are just prolonging the pain. Eventually the bills come home...
@Stardusk The world agreed that the word and credit of the United states was as good as gold. THEY AGREED. So we never defaulted in 1971. Your trying to compare Apples and oranges, Now if you were arguing this argument today, I would have to agree, but taking in to consideration the damages done to our countries finances and credibility by the last administration, Yes TODAY it would be called a default.
@glazierEd In 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt devalued the dollar from $20.68 per ounce of gold to $35.00 per ounce and also welshed on the repayment of WWI bonds issued by Woodrow Wilson (that explicitly required repayment in gold) The United States quite clearly and overtly defaulted on its debt as an expediency in 1933, the first year of Franklin Roosevelt's presidency.
@Stardusk If it was valued at $20.68 and Roosevelt valued it at almost twice the value, then I dont see how any one could call that a default, sounds like a great investment.
I am on medicare just one of the meds I am on costs 1029.00 bucks medicare plan part d cost me 97 bucks and I will meet the doughnut hole after 3 months so now I have to pay 3000 for my meds until I meet the doughnut hole like I have the money to pay that kind of money . I hope they drop the stupid hole and the check for 250.00 is a joke.
On 311 the World woke up and decided NO NUKES and NO FLUKES. We ask for the END OF THE NUCLEAR NIGHTMARE ON EARTH. We DEMAND THE END OF TOXIC POWER SYSTEMS ON EARTH. Let us BAN HYDRO FRACKING IN AMERICA as this POISONS MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER Let us DEMAND THE END OF THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL CORPORATE COMPLEX NOW. Let us DEMAND THE END OF ENDLESS WARS ON HUMANKINDLet us DEVELOP IN UNITY the Energy of SOLAR, MAGNETIC, WIND TURBINE, GEO THERMAL and HYDRO KINETIC FOR ALL POWER.
I'm going to play devil's advocate. The vast majority of people who elected our representatives are the working-class and the poor. The rich make up the smallest percentage of the total vote. What say you?
@djancak You need an insane amount of money to run. Who REALLY puts them in office? The American people can vote for someone hoping the representative will stay true to their word, but we all know how often that happens. Obama said he wouldn't touch SS but yet here we are...
@Stardusk Ron Paul and Rand Paul, are two interchangable crack pots who fell out of the tea bag tree. They would double team the middle class and bring us to pure serfdom. GO SELL YOUR CRAZY SNAKE OIL SALESMEN ELSWHERE, WHERE ALL BOOKED UP WITH MCCONNEL AND HIS TWO MINIONS BOEHNOR AND CANTOR.
@glazierEd Ron Paul is the only man in Washington with solutions. What are Bernie's solutions? raise the debt ceiling forever? never balance any budgets? what about monetary policy? I never hear liberals talk about monetary policy. I am a Libertarian not a Republican. Where is the antiwar left? once Obama got into office thet got up and left! Bernie could talk about how much we waste overseas but instead he just wants to raise taxes...so the government can spend us into oblivion.
@Stardusk Well I think if you listen to Bernie one more time, you will see he is not a giant fan of Obamy at this point and neither am I, We need fair trade, we need to worry about the U.S. first, and get back to our manufacturing roots if we want to save this economy and nation. We need more tax payers, thats the way to balance a budget. Not by attacking the middle class, elderly, sick, and kids. where is the outcry of us the majority?

@tsharpmac420: RAISE REVENUE BY RAISING TAXES ON THE WEALTHY A FEW PERCENT. That's it!
judyleasugar97 7 months ago
@judyleasugar97 The problem is spending, what is going to happen to america and all those entitlement programs when the gov is paying over 50% of gdp on intrest payments alone? When you combine that with the retarded tax code and the massive inflation caused by ben bernakie's addiction to printing money.
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420: Some people don't listen. I said raise revenue by raising taxes on the wealthy a few percent. What it was under Clinton, you know, when we actually had a surplus?
judyleasugar97 7 months ago
@judyleasugar97 How long is it going to take to pay off the 14 tillion dollar debt by increasing the taxes on wealthy by a few percentage points? The problem is DC spening and a tax code that has had 20,000(not a typo) additions/amendments since the late 80s
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420: They could do it by raising taxes a few percent on millionaires and billionaires and ending subsidies to wealthy corporations. Also, end off shore tax havens. End all of the ways the rich are right now avoiding paying their fair share and the deficit would shrink dramatically.
judyleasugar97 7 months ago
@judyleasugar97 Whats the lowest income a person can have that you would consider as wealthy?
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420: $250 thousand a year.
judyleasugar97 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420 There will always be inefficiencies in any organisation, be it a corporation or a government. However, our government does not have a problem with "out of control" spending. It may, due to corruption, not always spend money on the right things - if we want to fix that, we need to have campaign finance reform. However, neither our spending levels nor our tax levels are problems per se.
pgunn01 7 months ago
@pgunn01 barak obama has already spent more than bush did in 8 years and dontt blame that on george bush, (they r equally at fault) barak obama is the one who lied and pushed for the corrupt cronie stimulus as well as a health care bill that dosnt do shit 2 fix the system, democrats had 2 pass something bc they couldnt afford the political consequnces associated with failing 2 pass another health care reform bill, which was echoed by both dem and repub strategist talking heads during the debate
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@pgunn01 i do agree political corruption/money laundering is rampant and is destroying america, through massive defecit spending, if it keeps going at this rate we will be paying 100% of gdp in just intrest paymnents in no time. IT IS NOT JUST THE REPUBLICANS, IT IS BOTH PARTIES It is a sad day when the only city that has a booming houseing market is the seat of the america government. That is a clear sign that the federal government is to big and that the politicans r out of touch with the ppl
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420 Deficit spending is a problem. Ending unnecessary tax breaks would help. Campaign finance reform would also help.
I am not keen on defending either party, but this libertarian idea of slaying government would swap one problem for a much worse one.
pgunn01 7 months ago
@pgunn01 Giving those watch dogs more money will do nothing to solve the problem if they take the word of the madoffs and big pharmas in america with out doing actual investigations untill people die or people lose most of their money. The only thing they are watching is hardcore porn
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@pgunn01 I do agree that we need tax reform, we need to toss the whole code and start from scratch, its a huge problem when an indivual can go to 3 differnt tax professionals get three differnt answers and then a 4th differnt answer from the IRS after they pay their taxes
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420 So long as the replacement is still based on the principle that it is desirable to tax luxury levels of income much more heavily than taxing reasonable or necessity levels of income, I would be happy to see a new code.
Campaign finance reform is far more important than reforming the tax code though.
pgunn01 7 months ago
@pgunn01 i would eliminate the income tax for all, or atleast allow people to pay no income tax on the first 40k or 50k. As far as the corp taxes we need a flat rate that is competitive with the rest of the world as well as severly limiting subsides, there is no reason for massive corps like GE to pay next to nothing in taxes(around like 3%) and receive funds for R&D from the gov.
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420 I'd be fine with focusing the income tax on people earning above 40-50k. It might be nice to keep some minimal taxation for people below that to ensure a sense of civic duty and responsibility in fiscal policy though; large numbers of voters who pay no taxes whatsoever might make a mess of things.
I largely concur on subsidies. We need some ability to use fiscal policy to shape behaviour, but it should never amount to large corps paying negligible/no taxes.
pgunn01 7 months ago
@judyleasugar97 you need to open your eyes and take in the reality that the agenda of the far left in the democratic party has pissed off moderate dems, independents and those on the right, and who were the elected democrats that paid the price? The blue dogs who were not liberal in uber liberal districts.
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@tsharpmac420: You mean the Dems bought by corporate dollars? Those Dems? I'm not going to apologize for being sane.
judyleasugar97 7 months ago
@judyleasugar97 yea dems like barak obama in 08, who received money from many of the same corps that donated to john mcain except obama got 2-3 times more per donation
tsharpmac420 7 months ago
@judyleasugar97 i like the page about the top 10 richest member of congress 6 are democrats that spend massive sums of their own money and then try to spread the story that republicans get all money from corps, when in reality they are the ones that are out spending all

Sen. Sanders you'd have my vote in 2012
MichaelPAUSA 7 months ago
@MichaelPAUSA there is no red or blue state, no red or blue region. A state that goes either red or blue n a presidential election is not a sign of the actual political diversity in every state. People who live in the country are red prodomintly christian, and take care of each other, people who live in urban cities are blue, realize the part of the cities pop that is living in poverty is so big that the only logical way 2help is by having a city, county, state or federal goverment provide aid

Stardusk 7 months ago
@Stardusk The world agreed that the word and credit of the United states was as good as gold. THEY AGREED. So we never defaulted in 1971. Your trying to compare Apples and oranges, Now if you were arguing this argument today, I would have to agree, but taking in to consideration the damages done to our countries finances and credibility by the last administration, Yes TODAY it would be called a default.
glazierEd 7 months ago
@glazierEd In 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt devalued the dollar from $20.68 per ounce of gold to $35.00 per ounce and also welshed on the repayment of WWI bonds issued by Woodrow Wilson (that explicitly required repayment in gold) The United States quite clearly and overtly defaulted on its debt as an expediency in 1933, the first year of Franklin Roosevelt's presidency.
Stardusk 7 months ago
@Stardusk If it was valued at $20.68 and Roosevelt valued it at almost twice the value, then I dont see how any one could call that a default, sounds like a great investment.
