Where was this guy when I was in Germany with mine a few years ago? This is like an amateur MMA fighter picking on a high school kid. Some guy in a R32 in my town tried this with me on a 7 mi stretch and found out REALLY fast the difference between the high pressure and low pressure turbo'd Volvo. :)

That isn't treu. The biggest engine is the FH16 with 700HP.:-P
But however. You can't compare a W12 engine with a 5 or 6 cylinder engine.
But the 5.0tdi 10 cylinder has only 313HP and the 4.2i V8 has only 335HP and also the ''almighty'' 6.0i W12 engine has only 420HP..just what you say, bigger engines but no horse powers.

The S60 2.4T is a family four door saloon with less power and it keeps up with the R32's without a problem as shown here. A T5 would beat it and an R would destroy it.
The Golf R32 does not cost less then what? I know it cost about 13 000 dollar (10 000 euro) less then the Volvo R. Or did cost because the Golf R32 can not be bought anymore as it has been replaced by the Golf R (2,0 liter turbo compressor) 270hp (compared to the R32 250hp ,no compressor). But honestly both the Golf and the Volvo weight too much too ever be a nice streetcar.

DGS may help low down on the first couple of shifts but has zero advantage higher up and just adds weight. Im not saying the Volvo would destroy the R36 but the R36 certainly wouldnt destroy the Volvo.

With that power you can smoke some serious cars out there and they are even more surprised when you got a V70. I own a 2006 V70 T5 with some mods ;-) and I got a 2.4D label on the trunk so all the ricer boys are completely surprised lol...
The 2.4 T5 with 260 hp (S60, V70, 2005-) is a very great base for tuning. With just a 3" Cat-Back, good Custom Software (I recommend MTE and some private swedish engineers... but thats my secret ;-) and a K&N Air Filter you can squeeze out 330-350hp and massive NM depending on how much the car got stock.... thats because stock power scatters/spreads).

dude the r32 0-60 in 6.0 sec the t5 in 7.2 and the R with manual transmission is faster than the r32, taking only 5.7 sec but the R with automatic trans takes 6.7sec
that volvo is a low pressure to be a high presure itll be a 2.3 like a v70 coupe i have a nieghbor with a s60r and it gave me run for my money on my turbo nissan nx2000
Logical: the 2.5t (low pressure turbo) only got 210 hp (and a broad power-band because of the turbo), whereas the R32 got about 250 (and most power in higher revs) + it's a bit lighter.
The R32 should've pulled away harder. The T5 and especially the R should maken minced meat out of you, as we say in Holland :)
as commented b4 you can tell by the exhaust set up.. So R32 (which I do not dislike..although the original is the only one with any style..) is NOT a proper sports car..it's nothing but a hot hatch..so much so that It can't even take on a decent 2L Honda Hahahaha What a chump..bought series 2 R32 and thinks he's the man.. FYI - I have a S60R and wouldn't waste my time with VWs..except maybe the new Passat R36. Moral of the story is ..if you wanna race..get a real car..not a hatch.
Agreed on the R32, but don't say VWs because I'm pretty sure that a bolt on 60R won't hang with my 1.8T. I did have a 96 850R estate that was so bad ass though. I dig them both (VW and Volvo). My mom just bought a 2006 S60 2.5T and it's pretty peppy, but not even close the my old 850R. while some say that the start on this one was unfair, the R32 would have waxed it from a dead stop with the AWD system. Some forget that from a roll in a straight line, AWD is at a handicap.

USGiorgi is right. Get the newer T5 with 260 hp... get it to MTE Sweden and let them do their work ;-)... You get 350 hp and 500 NM out of the T5 (just with ECU remap, 3" downpipe and exhaust) and just 10 hp more from the R. Add intake and bigger injectors and when you talk to the guys they can push the hp a bit higher ;-).
And considering the R. Don't forget the higher transmission loss from the AWD!!! A T5 with that power will rape MANY MANY cars out there...!

OK, 1st of all this is a euro spec volvo so you are probably wrong on the hp. My dad has a u.s. spec one and it weighs LESS than the MKV R32 u.s. spec version so this is almost a fair race. you dont know a shit ! s40 t5 and s60 t5 dont have the same engine! s60t5 has 2.4liter turbo 260hk s40 has 2.5l turbo 220hk and its just 0.1 sec faster then this 2.5T s60 wich has the same engine like the R version a chiped 2.5T is as fast as the T5 if not faster cuz of the light pressure turbo wich kicks all the time!! thedifrence is just 50-100kg
S60 is build it in two versions: 210hp and 250hp (S60 T5 vs S60 2.4T). The S60R have the same engine, but have two sport exhaust, 330mm brake disks (bigger than m3s!!), have one HIGH pressure turbo and TWO intercoolers. Have 300 HP stock but you can get 433 HP and 0-100 in 4.8 secs with evolve mods (better than 2003 M3 e46 and S4 Audi / BMW 355i, etc).
Vad en kapplöpning. Utställning vad aerodynamikerna och en god breda ut av torque ( Den S60 2.5T ) de/vi/du/ni är värde i en på det flytta huvud till huvud. Stor material!
If you have a friend with or access to a T5 (250hp or latest 260hp) that would be great to see how the R32 fares then! Would help me to decide which s60 to get. If you have anyone with the 2.0 also, be nice to see how one of those go. supposed to still crack 140mph according to volvo. Golf R32 (TOP OF THE RANGE ENGINE IN GOLF) = 246bhp
Both cars have 320NM torque.
Had this been a S60 T5, this R32 would be traveling backwards.

They're not in production so makes no sense to discuss value for money when new.
Besides, the S60 R is far more useful for everyday use than the Golf is, it sounds better and has more much potential.

Logical: the 2.5t (low pressure turbo) only got 210 hp (and a broad power-band because of the turbo), whereas the R32 got about 250 (and most power in higher revs) + it's a bit lighter.
The R32 should've pulled away harder. The T5 and especially the R should maken minced meat out of you, as we say in Holland :)

as commented b4 you can tell by the exhaust set up.. So R32 (which I do not dislike..although the original is the only one with any style..) is NOT a proper sports car..it's nothing but a hot hatch..so much so that It can't even take on a decent 2L Honda Hahahaha What a chump..bought series 2 R32 and thinks he's the man.. FYI - I have a S60R and wouldn't waste my time with VWs..except maybe the new Passat R36. Moral of the story is ..if you wanna race..get a real car..not a hatch.

Agreed on the R32, but don't say VWs because I'm pretty sure that a bolt on 60R won't hang with my 1.8T. I did have a 96 850R estate that was so bad ass though. I dig them both (VW and Volvo). My mom just bought a 2006 S60 2.5T and it's pretty peppy, but not even close the my old 850R. while some say that the start on this one was unfair, the R32 would have waxed it from a dead stop with the AWD system. Some forget that from a roll in a straight line, AWD is at a handicap.

you dont even need the R version. Use a 2.4 t or a T5. Especially the T5. I cant believe the 2.5 t kept up so closely. Other models would have raped this VW.

USGiorgi is right. Get the newer T5 with 260 hp... get it to MTE Sweden and let them do their work ;-)... You get 350 hp and 500 NM out of the T5 (just with ECU remap, 3" downpipe and exhaust) and just 10 hp more from the R. Add intake and bigger injectors and when you talk to the guys they can push the hp a bit higher ;-).
And considering the R. Don't forget the higher transmission loss from the AWD!!! A T5 with that power will rape MANY MANY cars out there...!

OK, 1st of all this is a euro spec volvo so you are probably wrong on the hp. My dad has a u.s. spec one and it weighs LESS than the MKV R32 u.s. spec version so this is almost a fair race. Also, try to be a little more politically correct: while Hitler did play a [small] role in VW's humble beginnings, it was Ferdinand Porsche who started the company and DID NOT share the same political values as Hitler.

The 2.5T in this video is 205HP. It's a low pressure turbo not made for high power applications.
The S60 T5 specs you listed would have walked all over the Golf in the video.

the Volvo s60 2.5T is the slowest Volvo turbo while the s60 2.3T is faster than the normal 2.5T, the 2.5T R is awesome, I cant believe the R32 especially with the DSG transmission couldn't get further infront of this Volvo I didn't realise they were so slow, give me a Volvo any day

you dont know a shit ! s40 t5 and s60 t5 dont have the same engine! s60t5 has 2.4liter turbo 260hk s40 has 2.5l turbo 220hk and its just 0.1 sec faster then this 2.5T s60 wich has the same engine like the R version a chiped 2.5T is as fast as the T5 if not faster cuz of the light pressure turbo wich kicks all the time!! thedifrence is just 50-100kg

S60 is build it in two versions: 210hp and 250hp (S60 T5 vs S60 2.4T). The S60R have the same engine, but have two sport exhaust, 330mm brake disks (bigger than m3s!!), have one HIGH pressure turbo and TWO intercoolers. Have 300 HP stock but you can get 433 HP and 0-100 in 4.8 secs with evolve mods (better than 2003 M3 e46 and S4 Audi / BMW 355i, etc).
You see I know something about cars... :)

If you have a friend with or access to a T5 (250hp or latest 260hp) that would be great to see how the R32 fares then! Would help me to decide which s60 to get. If you have anyone with the 2.0 also, be nice to see how one of those go. supposed to still crack 140mph according to volvo. My tuned flying brick would struggle to crack 140mph lol, damn quick upto 80, but then lives upto its "brick" name thereafter
