I have a SH18 "portable" in gold finish from about 1959-1960. It uses the Sonotone 8T cartridge, tracking at 6 grams-not too bad for Lps of the 1948-1960 era. This is the 3-channel stereo version, with woofer in center & two swing-out speakers with the midrange & tweeters. Had it since my grandma picked it up for my 11th b'day in 1973. The SH18 & a 1920s record cabinet cost all of $15 at a garage sale. By the way, I think the Crosby 78 sounds fine. not too fast at all.

Yes the speed it about 2 rpm too fast. I need to reolace the idler wheel

I'd like to fix up my unit and make it look just as good as this one... It sounds real good but I bet in person it sounds even better.
