From the images that flicker really fast at around 2:05 you can see E.Ts hand(first image), Its weird. This movie just gets more and more intriguing. This is definitely a mix of E.T and The iron giant plot. The kid says "we got to find this thing" and then do what with it?, obviously protect it or help it escape. See its both E.T and The iron giant!!!!
OK from the looks of this i think the creature is not really that bad, because its got like this E.T feeling with a bit of violence. I really think this has a lot to do with The iron giant kind of plot. The kid finds the creature or whatever it is to not be that evil as it seems and tries to hide it from the government and it is in fact a secret weapon. Now doesn't that spell the iron giant all over. How much do you want to bet that's what this movie is about.

It is not the Iron Giant or E.T especially not E.T.... it's about these 3 kids and his dad well the main characters is the kid, his dad is the deputy of the town. And he has no wife, she died. Well all of the 3 kids are filming a zombie flick with their super 8 camera but they filmed the train crash. It looks to me that it'll be about close encounters with The Third Kind. Which is not abductions, nightmares, or hallucinations. It's sightings, you're gonna be able to actually see the "alien".

@punkrockpax It's already been stated its not, Abrams is still working on one though. Although since Cloverfield got a mixed reaction from audience members I'd imagine their isn't much enthusiasm for that.
